We are honoured to be supporting the wonderful Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People to recruit four new Trustees to their Board. 

Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People is based in Loughborough, Leicestershire, and is the only Hospice across the East Midlands that delivers a comprehensive range of support services, nursing and care for babies, children and young people with life threatening and life limiting conditions and their families.

As a Trustee for Rainbows Hospice your commitment will make a direct difference to the families they support. The work involved in being a Trustee can be demanding but is also immensely rewarding, providing both expected and unexpected opportunities for personal development. You will be joining a multi-skilled and talented Board of Trustees, currently twelve, who have a collective responsibility to govern their work.

The rewards of working with, and learning from, people of different backgrounds and skills will be great. You will help plan and fulfil their strategic future and make policy decisions to ensure they are accountable to the families, supporters, the Charity Commission and the public in general.

The team are looking for four Trustees to join them and have identified the following three skill areas of interest at this time;

Leadership
• Proven leadership experience aligned with organisational values and culture
• Collaborative, compassionate leadership style (non-hierarchical approach)
• Ability to inspire and bring people along
• Strategic oversight experience at board level
• Senior leadership role required (e.g., Director or CEO level)

Business/ Finance
• Strong understanding of charity finance to support the Director of Finance
• Broad commercial acumen beyond just retail
• Senior-level experience with a track record in innovation and growth
• Ability to contribute strategically to financial oversight and decision-making

Strategic Income Generation/ Retail
• Retail experience is essential and currently missing from the board (used to have a retail trustee on the board from Boots)
• Strategic income generation experience is desirable, though partly covered by the CEO
• Ability to challenge and support investment decisions to drive income
• Understanding of both operational and commercial aspects of retail
• Senior-level experience (e.g., Director of Retail at a large national charity like Cancer Research UK Senior Director

The Health Hub, in partnership with BrisDoc, provides access to healthcare for women who street sex work.

On Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesday the women can see a specialist nurse, sexual health nurse, and GP. Women can also access the things they need like clothing and hot food. 

Hairdresser- Health Hub volunteer: Role Description  

As part of the women’s access to health care we would like to offer free haircuts during Health Hub to the women, to help them with self-confidence and promote self-care.

We are looking for a qualified hairdresser to run a drop-in clinic for the women once a month on a Tuesday. 

This post is open to women only, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010. Following the recent Supreme Court judgment, this part of the Equality Act now means we may only consider applications from women who were assigned female at birth for this role. We welcome applicants to get in touch with us if they’d like to discuss this further.

Commitments needed: 

• One Tuesday a month from 12-4pm 

• To complete a volunteer induction 

• Able to travel to and from St Pauls, Bristol. 

Attributes and qualifications needed: 

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Hairdressing 

• Confident working with a variety of hair types and styles. 

• Commitment to maintaining dignity, choice, and respect for all individuals.

Tasks will involve: 

• Provide basic hairdressing services such as:

• Trimming and cutting hair 

• Blow-drying and styling 

• Tidy-ups 

• Create a friendly, respectful, and person‑centred experience for clients. 

• Listen to each individual’s preferences and deliver styles that suit their needs. 

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety within the working area. 

• Follow the services safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries guidelines. 

• Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers to support smooth service delivery.

About the Charity

From Me to You is an inspiring charity dedicated to alleviating loneliness and isolation for people living with cancer. We make connections for people living with cancer through the simple, powerful act of letter writing easing loneliness and bringing comfort, hope and human connection, one letter at a time. Recent feedback showed that 93% of our letter recipients reported the letters lifted their mood and a quarter said that they made them feel less alone. Each year thousands of anonymous letters are collated by our team of volunteers and then given to patients at home, in hospitals or cancer centres by nurses and our charity partners, with 80% of recipients saying that our letters made them feel cared for. Our work is powered by a passionate community of volunteers, in 2025 with their help we processed over 17,000 letters from all over the world, delivering them to cancer patients throughout the UK. 

Our Donate a Letter programme supports our 2,500+ volunteer letter writers to contribute anonymous letters, some people write a couple of letters a year, others one a week. These letters are all delivered to our PO Box in Ascot. They are then sorted, read and processed by our wonderful team of local Donate a Letter volunteers which this role would be a part of. These volunteers also then repackaged and redistributed the suitable letters to cancer patients through our partnership with hospitals, cancer centres and other charities that act as distribution partners. 

About the Role

We are looking for compassionate and reliable volunteers to support our Donate a Letter programme by undertaking the letter reading, processing and packaging tasks from the comfort of their own home.

This role can involve collecting the letters from our PO Box, reviewing donated letters to ensure they meet our content guidelines and packaging up the letters ready to be sent to individuals living with cancer in their home or through our outlet partners. 

Our volunteers play a vital role in helping us deliver safe, thoughtful and uplifting correspondence so this is a vital role to the charity but it can be very flexible so can suit volunteers needs and time allowance. Volunteers for this role are all based within the area local to the PO box so there is opportunity to undertake this volunteering with others but there is no requirement to do this. You will receive all the training you need to confidently fulfil this role, training would be in person or online with our Founder Alison and would include reading letters together to identify content issues and will be supplemented with written resources including a fact sheet on the do’s and don’ts of what letters can contain.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect letters from the PO Box and disseminate to the volunteers for processing 

• Read donated letters to ensure content is appropriate and in line with charity guidelines

• Flag any letters that require further review or that are not suitable for distribution

• Prepare and package approved letters for distribution

• Handle all materials with care and confidentiality

• Communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator as required 

• There is no minimum time requirement, though consistency is appreciated

There is opportunity for volunteers to undertake one element of this process or undertake it end to end, this will depend on the number of active volunteers we have and how much time each volunteer is able to commit. We believe in this role being fully flexible so we can discuss what set up might be suitable in our introduction meetings to ensure we can meet your needs.

About the role

As a Trustee, you will provide guidance, governance and final sign-off on major decisions on behalf of our membership. As Board members, our Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation in line with the requirements of the Charity Commission. Trustees also contribute to the development of Medact's strategy and participate in a range of other activities to support the Director and staff with our work.

As Treasurer, you will monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the Board of Trustees on its state of financial health to provide the board with the confidence and knowledge to better make strategic decisions. The Treasurer will ideally be available to work with the Executive Director and fellow Trustees between Board meetings to deal with issues which may arise. Key responsibilities include:

• Liaise with ED and Trustees to ensure the financial viability of the organisation’s strategy

• Advise on the financial implications of Medact’s strategic plan

• Present Medact’s financial position and broader context at Board meetings

• Support the Head of Finance with the production of an annual budget

• Ensure that the Board is aware of its financial duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation

• Take a lead in interpreting financial data to fellow Board members

• Provide oversight and guidance where necessary of accounts prepared for funders and  relevant statutory bodies

• Oversee the appointment of auditors and review on a regular basis

• Act as countersignatory on charity cheques and some applications to funders, approve payments on banking systems, and spending approval in accordance with financial management processes

• Ensure that all financial policies, procedures and the appointment of external financial advisors are reviewed on a regular basis

Acting as a Trustee is a voluntary role but reasonable travel expenses can be paid. 

Who we are looking for

Essential:

• Good background in financial management and analysis, gained through paid or unpaid experience

• Able to communicate financial information clearly and to people with different levels of financial and data literacy 

• Knowledge and experience of finance practice relevant to voluntary and community organisations

• Knowledge of accounting processes, tools and procedures

• High proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets, Powerpoint/Google Slides for analysis and presentation

• Commitment to Medact’s vision, purpose and culture and its way of working

• Understands and accepts the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of Trustees, and the difference between governance functions and management functions 

• High level of integrity and sound judgement

• Able and willing to devote the necessary time to the role

Desirable:

• Lived experience of being part of one of the communities Medact’s work seeks to support

• Awareness and understanding of the campaigning world and the health community’s role in it

We’re seeking a values-driven, committed volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. As Treasurer you will fulfil all statutory trustee duties, ensuring the charity operates in line with its governing document and legal requirements, while providing strategic financial oversight and guidance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the charity’s financial affairs, ensuring transparency and accountability

• Ensure appropriate financial controls, policies and procedures are in place

• Provide clear and accessible financial reports to the Board

• Support budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning

• Liaise with independent examiners/auditors during the annual accounts process

• Advise the Board on financial strategy, risk and sustainability

About the role

Our Board of Trustees provides guidance, governance and final sign-off on major decisions on behalf of our membership. There are four planned board meetings per year, which are hybrid, and it is expected that each Trustee will attend most Board meetings. It is hoped that each Trustee will have the capacity to use their unique skills to support the team more broadly with Medact’s work.

As Chair, you will support the Executive Director and staff to help build on our achievements and realise Medact’s vision. You will work with fellow Trustees to make up a strong and effective Board governing the Charity. 

Acting as a Trustee is a voluntary role but reasonable travel expenses can be paid. 

Who we are looking for

Our current Board brings a broad range of skills, but we recognise that we do not yet reflect the diversity of the health community. There are also specific types of experience and expertise we would like more of on the Board. In particular, we are looking for potential Trustees with one or more of the following attributes:

• Lived experience of an issue that Medact campaigns on, for instance the Hostile Environment, the health impacts of economic or housing injustice, the health impacts of armed conflict or UK security policies

• Experience as a frontline health worker of any sort, preferably current

• Legal and safeguarding expertise

• Fundraising expertise, particularly individual giving or major donor fundraising

• Human resources expertise

As Chair, you will be actively networked within the health community or broader social justice movement and highly experienced in governance or strategic leadership of a charity or NGO. You will have the skills to line-manage the Executive Director. And you will have the ability to advocate on behalf of Medact’s work, as well as helping to build the membership and public image of the organisation. 

We hope all Trustees will: 

• Share our vision for a fairer and safer world, and our analysis of the transformational change needed to get closer to it

• Approach Board discussions and conversations with the team with an open mind, able to listen to and genuinely engage with others’ views

• Display collaborative behaviours which promote harmony and good team working which supports Medact to be an effective, well-governed organisation

Previous experience on a charity board or in another governance role is useful but by no means essential. We are seeking Event Paramedics to respond to and manage emergency calls/incidents whilst attending events. This will mainly involve working in mobile treatment centres or temporary event medical centres.

Successful candidates will be registered medical practitioners with the GMC, without cautions or restrictions, and hold a licence to practice outside of an approved practice setting.

As a health professional volunteer, you would support our First Aid teams with patients who need more complex assessment or treatment, prescription medications or admission to hospital. 

We would warmly welcome you into our clinical team, provide all your training, uniform and equipment and offer you a great chance to work as part of a friendly prehospital care team, with good clinical support from experienced colleagues. 

You would join our group of over 20 Kent doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and paramedics who already give their time to volunteer with St John Ambulance. 

We have clinicians of all specialities in our teams and are happy to provide clinical supervision for those in training grades. 

We understand how tiring your work shifts can be, and that your duty to your NHS patients will always come first, and we can offer you flexibility around volunteering shifts as well as paid travel to, and accommodation at events.

Medact organises the health community to work towards a world in which everyone is able to live healthy, dignified lives, supported by political and economic systems that centre health justice. Our priority work areas are some of the most pressing threats to health and wellbeing, including ending state violence, housing & energy justice, and migrant access to healthcare. Medact seeks systemic solutions to major social problems, and is unafraid to hold decision-makers to account. We launched our new five-year strategy at the end of 2025, embedding our vision for how we win and how we grow.

About the role

As a Trustee, you will provide guidance, governance and final sign-off on major decisions on behalf of our membership. As Board members, our Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation in line with the requirements of the Charity Commission. Trustees also contribute to the development of Medact's strategy and participate in a range of other activities to support the Director and staff with our work.

There are four planned board meetings per year, which are hybrid, and it is expected that each Trustee will attend most Board meetings. Trustees are also sometimes asked to give their views or sign off on issues between Board meetings if an issue cannot wait. It is hoped that each Trustee will have the capacity to use their unique skills to support the team more broadly with Medact’s work.​

Acting as a Trustee is a voluntary role but reasonable travel expenses can be paid. 

Who we are looking for

We would like to widen the diversity on the board by encouraging applications from grassroots campaigners, members of communities affected by the issues Medact campaigns on, those working with the third sector on similar issues, and from racialised, religious and other minorities.

Our current Board brings a broad range of skills, but we recognise that we do not yet reflect the diversity of the health community. There are also specific types of experience and expertise we would like more of on the Board. In particular, we are looking for potential Trustees with one or more of the following attributes:

• Lived experience of an issue that Medact campaigns on, for instance the Hostile Environment, the health impacts of economic or housing injustice, the health impacts of armed conflict or UK security policies

• Experience as a frontline health worker of any sort, preferably current

• Legal and safeguarding expertise

• Fundraising expertise, particularly individual giving or major donor fundraising

• Human resources expertise

We hope all Trustees will: 

• Share our vision for a fairer and safer world, and our analysis of the transformational change needed to get closer to it

• Approach Board discussions and conversations with the team with an open mind, able to listen to and genuinely engage with others’ views

• Display collaborative behaviours which promote harmony and good team working which supports Medact to be an effective, well-governed organisation

Previous experience on a charity board or in another governance role is useful but by no means essential. The British Geriatrics Society is seeking to appoint a new lay Trustee 

The British Geriatrics Society is the professional membership organisation for doctors, nurses and other healthcare specialists working to provide healthcare for older people across the UK. We have more than 5,600 multidisciplinary members working in acute, primary and community care, united by a mission to improve the healthcare of older people.  We are a registered charity and limited company based in Farringdon in Central London, with members in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.

The population is ageing. More people are living for longer, often with long-term conditions such as frailty or dementia. Older people are the population group who use the health service the most. Although there is a strong evidence base for what good care of older people should be, this is not being delivered everywhere, and too many older people find themselves at the mercy of a NHS system that does not work well for their needs. The BGS has a proud 80-year history of supporting the specialist workforce in older people’s healthcare. We are needed more than ever now, to ensure that services for older people across the UK are integrated, joined-up and effective. Why not see for yourself by joining our Board as a lay trustee? The role

We are seeking to appoint a new lay trustee to succeed one of our two lay trustees who completes his term of office in July 2026. The BGS Trustee Board has twelve charity trustees, ten of whom are healthcare professionals, who lead different aspects of the BGS’s work. The Board is chaired by the BGS President, Professor Jugdeep Dhesi. In addition to the trustees, other senior officers, such as the Vice-Presidents, contribute to Board meetings. The BGS has a staff team of 16 who are paid, but all other roles are undertaken on a voluntary basis.  

Trustees perform the following functions:

• Contributing to the strategic direction of the British Geriatrics Society (BGS), setting overall policy, defining goals, and setting targets and evaluating performance
• Providing governance to ensure compliance with charity law and good practice
• Scrutinising board papers, contributing to discussions, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives
• Supporting, constructively challenging, and motivating the Chief Executive and other senior staff
• Acting as a BGS ambassador, to promote the Society, the specialty and older people’s healthcare.
• Safeguarding the charity’s assets, including its financial sustainability
• Working in a collegiate way with fellow Board members to support the Chair and to provide timely, robust decision-making and leadership.

The person 

The incoming lay trustee will:

• Be committed to the BGS mission of improving the healthcare of older people
• Have a good understanding of charities and charity governance, most likely through prior experience of being a trustee
• Have the ability to be strategic and collegiate
• Have some commercial experience to help the BGS in its goal of earning more income
• Have professional experience from one or more of the following areas: health or social care commissioning; charity senior management or trusteeship; policy influencing; digital strategy; business.

The new lay member of the Trustee Board will join the BGS in time for the Board awayday in London on 30 July 2026. Their term of office will be two years, with the potential for a second term of two years.

Our trustees are unpaid, but we pay travel and other out of pocket expenses. We provide an induction to the BGS’s work. There are four Board meetings a year, with at least one held online. The in-person meeting in July includes a Board workshop.

Spend 3 - 4 hours a week in a hospital and feel over the moon!

This is what happens when you join the Friends of Chelsea & Westminster Hospital as a volunteer.

Chelsea & Westminster Hospital on Fulham Road is known as one of the best hospitals in London and across the UK as a whole. One reason for this is its focus on patient and staff wellbeing. If you have been a patient at Chelsea & Westminster, you will surely have noticed the staff’s professional work ethic and determination to deliver the best care.

One way to “give back” to the incredible staff is to join our charity the Friends of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as a volunteer.

The medical staff are often so busy that if they have not brought lunch with them, they have very little time to leave the ward to buy food. Since November 2022 the Friends of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has successfully operated a Lunch Trolley service for hospital staff, in partnership with B Bagel Fulham Road. The service operates five days a week (Monday-Friday) from 10:30 to 13:30/14:00 and allows busy staff (and some patients) to purchase bagels, salads, cakes and drinks without leaving their departments.

In our first year of operation, thanks to our hard-working volunteers we raised around £9,000 to support the work of the Friends charity in the hospital.

We are now looking for two additional volunteers, one who can commit to a set weekly shift of around 4 hours (day to be discussed) and one who can fill in occasionally when one of our permanent volunteers is away. You will be joining a small, friendly team providing a really valuable and popular service to our hard-working hospital staff.

Role description

● Collect the day’s order of bagels and salads from B Bagel (opposite the hospital) by 10:30/10:45

● Collect the trolley from the Friends storeroom (lower ground floor) and stock it with the bagels/salads/cakes plus additional items from the stock list

● Volunteers have a dedicated route to follow each day, so Monday’s first stop is not always the first served on the other days

● When entering a ward/department, make yourself known to the nurse's desk and place the trolley in a safe position that does not obstruct the movement of staff or patients

● Take payment via contactless card machine only (your only battle will be with the dedicated WIFI but we usually manage.)

● At the end of the run, return trolley to the Friends store room (lower ground floor)

● Do stock check

● Remove and dispose of all perishable items from the trolley

● Return carrier box to B Bagel with the order for the next day

● Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to at least one 4-hour slot (around 10.30 to 14.00) once a week

● Previous experience in food retail or a similar voluntary role

● Previous experience in operating a contactless card machine

Full training will be provided. Volunteers report to the Friends Charity Manager, but are also required to comply with all requirements of the hospital’s own volunteering department, including undergoing a DBS check, Occupational Health check and core training. We will take up references on all successful applicants.

Please note that this is quite a physically demanding role and will not suit those with mobility issues or who have difficulty moving and handling heavy items.
