You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a school governor. You must be over 18, but you don’t need to be a parent or have experience working in education. Often, it’s the outside perspective you can bring that a school needs.

Professional experience in areas such as HR, finance, law, or project management are all useful to a school. But soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem solving are also great additions.

Through volunteering as an Emergency Responder, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering essential first aid and lifesaving clinical care at community and major events in your areas, including at sporting events, concerts, community festivals.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. This opportunity will take be across Hertfordshire, where we meet in the following locations, Hemel Hempsted, Stevenage and St Albans on a Thursday; Hertford on a Tuesday and Rickmansworth on a Wednesday, all at 8pm. The type of events we have historically covered include Stevenage Day, Herts County Day, Watford Football Club, Firework Events and we assist National and State events in London.

Whilst many of the events we cover are at the weekends we do also cover mid-week events.

This role will require an interview, we are looking to run a volunteering interviews from 16th June 2026. Details of times, venue, etc tbc.

If you are successful you will need to undertake induction & training for role at these dates:

• Welcome Event (Induction) - 01/09/2026, details of times, venue, etc.
• Training for role - This role is subject to a 6 day training course which will be spread across 3 weekends. Locations and dates will be confirmed with 3 courses booked across the East Region, please note travel may be required. The earliest course will be in Norwich in July and August with further courses being planned for September/ October and October/ November

Volunteers would be expected to attend training for the role both online and in person, to attend regularly network weekly meetings to enable them to keep their skills up to date.

As the Network Training Lead you will be responsible for creating and implement an effective Network training plan, which clearly meets the needs of the Network and of St John Ambulance. Preference is for a candidate who maybe from a HCP background and is a trainer by profession.

If you are successful you will need to undertake relevant training for the role, details of which will be discussed after you have been appointed.

This vacancy is for Suffolk, and meet across three venues, Ipswich and Stow market meet on a Monday evening and Bur St Edmunds meeting on a Wednesday evening. The type of events Suffolk volunteers have historically supported are Suffolk Show, Aldeburgh Carnival, Newmarket Racecourse, Undley Pumpkin Patch, University of Suffolk open days along with small er events like village fetes and galas, 5k, 10k and half marathon running events, firework displays and remembrance events. They have also assisted with National and State events in London such as the London Marathon.

Are you passionate about storytelling, digital media and making a real difference? We’re looking for a creative and motivated volunteer to support our fundraising and communications team for one day (or more!) a week.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience while helping us connect with supporters and members of the Chilterns Neuro Centre, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by MS, Parkinson’s and strokes, empowering them to live life to the full.
