Kitchen Assistant – Day Care Centre 

What You’ll Do

Work alongside the chef to help prepare and serve food for older people attending the centre. You’ll assist with food prep, keeping the kitchen clean, and ensuring mealtimes run smoothly.

You will:

· Prepare ingredients (e.g. peel and chop vegetables)

· Help make tea and coffee trays

· Wash dishes and maintain hygiene standards

· Keep kitchen surfaces and equipment clean

· Organise supplies and groceries

· Interact respectfully with clients when appropriate

Chair of the Board — United St Saviour's Charity

For almost 500 years, we've supported Southwark's communities. Now we're looking for a new Chair to help lead our next chapter — including delivering the RIBA Stirling Prize-winning legacy of Appleby Blue into a bold ten-year strategy.

United St Saviour's Charity is a place-based community investor in Southwark, providing almshouses, grant-funding and community programmes that build resilience and connection across the borough. Over the last decade we've nearly doubled our housing provision and delivered Appleby Blue — a social housing development for older people that went on to win the RIBA Stirling Prize, the UK's most prestigious architecture award.

This role is for you if:

• You have board leadership experience, ideally including previous experience chairing a board or significant committee
• You've held senior leadership roles within a medium-to-large charity or purpose-driven organisation, ideally through periods of growth, complexity or strategic change
• You bring strength in one or more of: housing and property development, organisational governance, community development, or finance and accounting
• You have a genuine, lived or learned understanding of Southwark and its communities
• You're as comfortable challenging and questioning as you are supporting — leading with influence rather than authority

What you'll do

As Chair, you'll lead our Board of Trustees and work in close partnership with our Chief Executive, Martyn Craddock, providing support, guidance and constructive challenge to help the organisation deliver its strategic plan. You'll ensure the charity remains well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on delivering lasting impact for the people of Southwark — while acting as an ambassador for our values, purpose and reputation, including in situations that require urgent decision-making.

You'll be joining at a pivotal moment: we're scaling up our housing development pipeline, delivering a new Community Investment Strategy for 2025–2030, and increasingly being asked to share what we've learned with other boroughs and housing providers as our national influence grows.

Location and time commitment

Based in the London Borough of Southwark — Board and committee meetings take place at our offices and almshouses. This is a voluntary role (reasonable expenses met) requiring approximately 2–3 days a month, including four Board meetings a year, a Strategy and Reflection Day, and membership of one to two committees.

What You’ll Do

Help us understand what older people need by calling clients to complete short surveys. You’ll collect feedback that helps shape our services and programmes.

Read Easy UK is a registered charity that works through affiliated local groups to provide one-to-one reading coaching to adults, using trained volunteers. By enabling people to tackle their reading difficulties, Read Easy also allows each individual to grow in confidence and self-esteem, become more independent, move on to other forms of education if they wish, and improve their employment opportunities. Each affiliated Read Easy group is run entirely by volunteers and aims to provide interesting and rewarding opportunities to all involved to help change lives for the better. 

What you would be doing:

• Developing the literacy skills of an adult Reader who has difficulty with reading
• Meeting with your Reader for two separate half hour sessions each week face to face in an approved venue or remotely on a video call or a combination of both
• Providing non-judgemental literacy support to your Reader
• Utilising your empathy and understanding to support your Reader
• Delivering the phonics based Turning Pages programme with guidance for coaches on every page and using other approved resources
• Keeping records of your meetings
• Liaising with your allocated Coordinator and Literacy Specialist.

Personal Qualities Required to be a Reading Coach:

• Confident reading skills
• Clear communicator
• Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding whilst maintaining boundaries

We are looking to recruit a Three Trustees. These are all voluntary roles based in London.

Founded in 1869, Harrison Housing supports older people through almshouse and social housing. Today, we provide 75 sheltered homes and 19 general-needs homes, and manage a further 139 properties across London for other almshouse providers. Our purpose is safe, well-maintained homes for older people in housing and financial need and our vision is supporting residents to live independently. We are building on our strong foundations to support more people, strengthen almshouse partnerships and improve our homes and services.

We are seeking three new Trustee to bring skills, experience and fresh perspectives to our Board.

Previous Trustee experience is not required. We are looking for sound judgement, strategic insight, constructive challenge and commitment to our purpose.

We are looking for candidates who understand the challenges of a small organisation and will particularly welcome expertise in:

• Financial strategy and sustainability
• Strategic growth and organisational development
• Property and asset strategy
• Fundraising and income generation
• Resident engagement and the resident voice

About the Role

KLS is looking for a Treasurer Trustee to bring financial insight, sound judgement and strategic challenge to our Board. This is a rewarding opportunity to help a community-focused charity stay financially strong, well governed and able to make a lasting difference for people in Battersea and Wandsworth.

What You’ll Do

• Guide Board-level understanding of KLS’s finances, risks and long-term sustainability.

• Chair the Finance Committee and help turn financial information into clear, confident decisions.

• Provide Board level scrutiny of budgets, management accounts, reserves, cash flow, controls and annual accounts, including reviewing income and expenditure, monitoring restricted and unrestricted funds, and supporting year-end reporting.

Who We’re Looking For

• Financial confidence, curiosity and clarity, with the ability to read the numbers and ask thoughtful questions.

• Ability to help others engage with finance in a practical, accessible way.

• Experience in finance, accountancy, audit, risk, grant management, charity finance, trusteeship or the voluntary and community sector.

• Understanding of charity finance, including monitoring restricted funds, reviewing management accounts, supporting reserves policy, preparing for audit or independent examination, and helping trustees understand financial risks.

• A professional accountancy qualification is welcome but not essential if you have broader financial leadership or governance experience. 

• Previous trustee experience is desirable but not essential.

Refugee Support Volunteer

Location: Folkestone, Kent (Wednesdays 12:00pm to 4:00pm) or Dartford, Kent (Fridays 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Time commitment: One half-day per week

Preferred commitment: We welcome applications from anyone able to volunteer regularly. While there is no minimum commitment, volunteers who stay for six months or longer often have the greatest impact and consistency for the refugees we support and allows volunteers to gain the most from their experience.

Help Refugees Build Confidence and Independence

Choose to give your time to the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants – BCN for short – and you’re choosing to see nature not as a luxury but as the system that keeps us alive. 

Choose to shape a brighter future for nature in our three counties, and you’re choosingto work with an organisation that doesn’t just count its outputs, but measures its actual impact. 

We’re looking for three new Trustees to provide strategic direction and keep our ambitious plans for a wilder future on track.

We want our Board to reflect our community and actively encourage applications from people of all identities and walks of life. We particularly invite applications from groups currently underrepresented within environmental charities including people from ethnic minority backgrounds and those with disabilities. 

In return for your input, we’ll give you fascinating insights into nature and charity operations, lively and respectful debate and field visits with expert staff.

About you

You don’t need to be an expert on wildlife. We only ask that you care deeply about it.

Nor do you need to have had a long career. We only ask that you’re over 18.

And you don’t need to be a member of the Wildlife Trust to apply, although we will ask you to join if you’re appointed.

We’re looking for:

·A passion for nature and a belief in our vision and values.

·The ability to step back from the detail and see the bigger picture.

·An open mind and a commitment to listening, learning and valuing others’ perspectives. 

·The desire to share your experience and expertise.

In addition, for two of the three posts, we’re particularly seeking Trustees with experience in:

The third post is not sector specific.

Time commitment

You’ll attend up to eight evening meetings per year – 6pm to 8pm. One meeting is in-person at our offices in Cambourne; the others are hybrid. You’ll need to read papers in advance and come ready to contribute to the discussion.

We have an annual strategy away day in the working week and we encourage Trustees to attend our AGM and Members’ Day on a Saturday.

Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term.
