Safeguarding volunteer roles

The Role

We are seeking Peer Volunteers to support in designing and facilitating peer-led psychoeducation groups addressing root causes of gambling and a safe environment for loved ones to build meaningful peer connections. You will be joining a small team and be expected to work in partnership with your peer support workers and service lead. We are seeking autonomous, creative individuals with experiences of working or lived experience of behaviours around addiction.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has lived experience of addiction and/or mental health challenges
• Are a non-judgmental and friendly individual 
• To be able to provide a welcoming, authentic, and positive experience for all, being inclusive and embracing diversity 
• To feel comfortable engaging with people with addiction, mental health challenges / difficult life experiences, by validating strengths and experiences and using empowering language to overcome negative self-talk 
• Are empathic and understands the stigma / social bias's surrounding addiction and mental health 
• Are willing to tap into their lived experiences and use their stories to inspire hope in others when appropriate 
• Are comfortable with co-producing and co-facilitating peer led workshops 
• To assist the team with admin and planning
• Are able to take on any ad hoc admin/support responsibilities
• Knowledge around safeguarding policies and procedures 
• Knowledge and experience of risk management

Time commitment:

• Flexible hours between Monday-Friday. We are looking for someone to commit to a minimum of at least 1 or 2 activities a week.
• We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing support to support them in the role.

Do you have a love of writing and poetry? We’re setting up a monthly telephone group for blind and partially sighted people who are writers or poets or who are interested in writing and poetry to meet regularly and share their enthusiasm.

If you’re also a good listener, able to manage group conversations and make people feel comfortable in a social group environment, we’re keen to hear from you.

This is a telephone-based role that you can do from home. You will need access to a landline and/or mobile phone. We ask you to commit to 1-2 hour per month to facilitate 1 group session, which will take place at the same day and time each month.

You will be the link between the group participants and the RNIB Talk and Support team and will:

• Listen to the group conversation and ensure it flows and that all conversations are appropriate;
• Make appropriate contributions as and when required to stimulate conversation;
• Create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere thus encouraging all participants to feel comfortable taking part;
• Be the link between the group participants and the RNIB Talk and Support team;
• Report any Safeguarding concerns or data breaches to the Talk & Support staff team.

What skills and experience are needed?

• • A personal interest in writing and poetry

The Admin Volunteer will support our home/service with general day-to-day, ad hoc, administrative tasks, such as:

• Organising files

• Archiving and scanning paperwork

• Collecting and inputting data

• Answering phone calls and welcoming visitors.

Skills required

• To be proficient in Microsoft Office software.

• Very good organisational skills and eye for detail.

• To be punctual and reliable.

• To be able to deal with information in line with our data protection and confidentiality procedures.

• Very good telephone manners/skills.

All these courses will take approximately 40-60 minutes, apart from the First Aid which is 2 hours.

Become Our Founding Treasurer

Help build the financial foundations of a charity dedicated to transforming how we understand and respond to male suicide.

Too many men are dying by suicide.

In the UK, men account for around three quarters of all suicides, yet male suicide remains under-researched and under-served by targeted interventions. We believe this has to change.

Action on Male Suicide is a new research-led charity established by researchers and practitioners who have spent years studying male suicide and working with men in suicidal crisis. Our work brings together rigorous academic research, lived experience, and practical action to identify what truly helps men and ensure that knowledge is translated into better services, stronger communities, and fewer men dying.

We are on a mission to transform how we understand and respond to male suicide. Can you help us?

• Greeting visitors, providing a safe and friendly environment, and “checking in and chatting” with service users.

• Ensure the environment is safe, maintain accurate records and adhere to safeguarding, food hygiene and GDPR
