Inscape School is a leading specialist setting supporting autistic children and young people aged 5 to 19 who have communication and social‑interaction needs. Based on the Together Trust Campus in Cheadle, our purpose‑built SEND environment removes barriers to learning, maximises independence, and celebrates every student’s achievements.

We provide holistic, personalised programmes tailored to each learner’s strengths and unique way of experiencing the world. Our multidisciplinary teams—comprising therapists, specialist teachers and behaviour support professionals—work collaboratively to help students build confidence, develop essential life skills, and work towards long‑term independence.

We are seeking to appoint a knowledgeable and committed Volunteer Governor with a strong educational background, particularly someone with expertise in SEND, curriculum quality, student outcomes and Ofsted frameworks.

As part of the governing body, you will contribute to ensuring that Inscape School provides sufficient, high‑quality teaching time to deliver a rich and effective curriculum. Governors play a vital role in holding senior leaders, including the Headteacher, to account for the school’s educational performance and for securing the best possible outcomes for learners. Achievement, curriculum and teaching are key areas evaluated by Ofsted, making this role central to the school’s ongoing improvement and success.

This appointment will serve as the governing body’s Achievement, Curriculum and Teaching Link Governor. The postholder will support the governing body in maintaining robust strategic oversight of the school’s educational performance, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and helping ensure that the highest standards are consistently met.

Collectively, individual governors contribute their professional, specialist and general management skills to Inscape School (and its sub-groups) in a non-executive role.

Governors advise, challenge and support the leadership of the school / college and hold them to account for its management, the quality of the teaching and learning and the achievement, wellbeing and safety of pupils. Governors uphold the values and ethos of the College and ensure it works within its allocated budget, approving targets, policies, and monitoring the progress the school / college is making.

What you will be doing:

• Approving policies and the school/college quality improvement plan
• Promoting the well-being of students including independence, participation, diversity, inclusion, equal opportunities, and community cohesion
• Use your experience in Education to help shape what we do
• Read the documents for and attend all full Governing Body meetings and subgroups of which they are members
• Attend induction and relevant training events organised by the School or Together Trust
• Get to know the College and its staff by visiting the College and attending inset and other meetings to which Governors are invited by the principal
• Supporting decisions on safeguarding, equality, curriculum, resources, and student wellbeing

The skills you need:

• A strategic mindset – the ability to consider long-term goals, think beyond the day-to-day, and shape the College’s future direction
• Constructive evaluation skills – the confidence to review data and performance reports critically, offer thoughtful challenge, and contribute to continuous improvement
• Leadership and influencing skills – an ability to support and guide strategic decision-making, influence thinking, and work collaboratively with others
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills – you’ll be part of a collective, supporting respectful debate, inclusive discussions, and shared accountability
• Good planning and organisational skills – to prepare for meetings, follow up on actions, and balance responsibilities effectively alongside other commitments
• Ability to demonstrate a full understanding and appreciation of the principles of governance
• Experience in education – with insight into curriculum, teaching, learning, or assessment. Those with specialist SEND knowledge or experience of further education settings will be particularly valuable

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection
• You’ll need to be aged 18+ to volunteer in this role. If you’re aged 16-17, you’ll need to be supervised by a friend, family member, or guardian over the age of 18 in order to carry out any fundraising activity.

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

A little over three years ago we successfully opened our brand new venue in Elephant & Castle, making us a two building, three venue, London fringe powerhouse. We present and host over 40 main house theatre productions per year alongside a busy community participation programme.

We are looking for up to 3 people to join our board of trustees and be part of our ongoing development and evolution. Ensuring that we remain ambitious but also resilient going forwards.

Plans include: building and developing the staff team; introducing a fundraising and development strategy; enhancing our profile and marketing offer; and developing our own in-house programme of work.

We are also looking to the longer-term and the potential development of a new theatre in London Bridge.

Becoming a trustee of Southwark Playhouse will introduce you to a range of people and activities not found elsewhere. You will take up a position within an organisation that has broad impact and delivers engaging, joyful and thought-provoking experiences. You will witness first hand the life changing impact that engagement with arts and culture can have on individuals and communities and we hope that you will be proud to govern an organisation that has such a positive and powerful legacy.

Trustees are the guardians of our purpose - as a trustee you will have oversight of the strategic direction of Southwark Playhouse and contribute to creative discussions about our aims and mission, ensuring that we remain a vital and relevant cultural asset for Southwark, the Capital and beyond.

As a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, you will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with our governing documents, charity law and other laws that apply to our organisation.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking to recruit up to 3 new Trustees to the Board.

We’re looking for passionate and committed individuals who love theatre and the arts, believe in the work that we do, and who want to play a part in our next chapter of growth and development. You do not need to have been a Trustee before or have previous Board experience.

Whilst we’d like to hear from applicants from a range of backgrounds and experiences, we are particularly keen to hear from those with skills in any of the following areas:

• Marketing / Communications
• Legal: Employment Law / Contract Law
• Fundraising / Development
• Finance / Accountancy
• Creative strategy / Production

The general attributes we’re looking for in potential Trustees include:

• Good, independent judgement.
• An ability to think creatively and strategically.
• An ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
• Effective interpersonal skills, and a willingness to act as an ambassador for Southwark Playhouse.
• An active commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• An ability to command trust and respect.
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of being a Trustee.
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort required.

EXPECTATIONS

What we ask of you:

• To serve an initial term of 3 years.
• To attend 4 x 2-hour Board Meetings a year.
• To attend 1 x 1-hour AGM per year (often appended to a board meeting as above)
• Attend an annual Away Day.
• To attend and at times host Southwark Playhouse receptions, events, opening nights and other engagements.
• To sit on a Board Sub Committee as required and appropriate.
• To provide specialist advice and expertise as required and appropriate.
• To advocate and champion Southwark Playhouse’s work, values, ambition and strategic direction.

In total, Trustees usually commit the equivalent of 6-7 days per annum to their role.

• 2 complimentary tickets for every production presented at Southwark Playhouse (subject to availability).
• Flexibility when it comes to attending meetings either in person or remotely via video call.

Please note that Trustee roles are voluntary and therefore unpaid, however reasonable out-ofpocket expenses can be covered.

SLOW, an award-winning charity supporting bereaved families, is excited to welcome an experienced Chair to lead our Board of Trustees, when our current Chair retires in June 2026. The appointee will be tasked with moving the organisation to the next level in delivering the sustainable growth of its bereavement services. 

The Chair of SLOW is entrusted with the vital task of leading the Board of Trustees and its Director to ensure it fulfils its legal and governance responsibilities while remaining true to the mission and values of the charity.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engaged individual to come into SLOW and utilise their extensive charity governance experience to help the charity on its strategic journey. As the Chair of the Board of Trustees, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and further developing the charity's strategic direction and acting as an ambassador for the organisation. The Chair will be required to lead the Board to consensus-based decisions, as well as provide strategic and critical support to its Director. The Chair will ensure that the organisation continues to fulfil its objectives and work towards its goals and mission, while also promoting the highest standards of charity governance. The Chair reports to the Board of Trustees.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you! 

What can I expect to be doing? 

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following: 

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with our fundraising events, attending supermarket collections or local markets. 

• Distributing collection tins – popping collection tins into local shops and pubs and collecting them when they’re full. 

• Bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life. 

• Engaging with your local branches and Fundraising Hub and feeling like an integral part of the team!

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge though Cats Protection’s learn online system, providing you with the skills to thrive as a fundraiser.  You’ll also have the chance to meet new people and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers.

A bit about this role...

Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our Collection Box Volunteers help us raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

What can I expect to be doing?

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

• Researching local shops, pubs and businesses to place Collection Boxes
• Delivering Collection Boxes to locations
• Recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters
• Collecting and replacing Collection boxes when they're full
• Sharing your passion for cat welfare and promoting the work of Cats Protection

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

As a fundraising volunteer, we’ll support you to get involved in a way that suits you best. Whether you enjoy organising events, fundraising online, promoting activities on social media, helping with administration, or coming up with fresh ideas — there’s a place for you here. Whatever your skills or interests, this could be the perfect role.

What we need from you

This is a highly flexible role, and you can choose how you’d like to get involved. Opportunities include:

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins
• Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
• Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
• Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection

Time commitment

This role is flexible and designed to fit around your other commitments. You’ll be part of a friendly team raising vital funds — and having fun along the way.
