About Us
We are a small grassroots charity based in Southwark and the only surviving tenants’ federation in London. For decades, we have supported tenants and residents to defend their housing rights, challenge poor conditions, and have a collective voice in decisions that affect their homes and communities.
Our social housing advice service supports people facing homelessness, disrepair, evictions, and housing management issues, with a strong focus on empowerment and tenant-led action.
The Role
We are seeking a Volunteer Grant Officer to help us secure funding to sustain and grow our vital work. This role is crucial to keeping an independent, tenant-led voice alive in London.
You will work closely with a small, committed team and help ensure our advice service remains accessible to local residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Research grant funding opportunities suitable for a grassroots, tenant-led organisation
- Draft and submit grant applications to trusts, foundations, and statutory funders
- Maintain a simple funding pipeline and track deadlines
- Work with staff and volunteers to gather service data, outcomes, and case studies
- Assist with basic funder monitoring and reporting
About You

Role Purpose
The Deputy Head of Ethics & Research Reporting is a senior volunteer leadership role designed to provide strategic and operational resilience across the department. This role will initially serve as Interim Head of Ethics & Research Reporting during the Head of Department’s leave of absence, assuming full leadership responsibilities. When the Head returns in May, the Deputy will transition into the standard Deputy Head role, continuing to provide leadership continuity, oversight and support.

A PhD is required, along with postdoctoral research experience, or significant academic or practical research experience at an equivalent level, demonstrating advanced expertise in research design, ethics, governance or reporting.

Substantial experience in research ethics, research governance or research leadership, ideally across multiple projects or teams.

Experience in strategic planning, departmental oversight or senior‑level decision‑making, whether in a volunteer, academic or professional context.

A strong track record of ethical decision‑making, particularly in roles where judgement, integrity and risk assessment were central.

Experience with research reporting, research communication or academic publication processes is highly beneficial.

A strong interest in ethical governance, research integrity and maintaining high standards across research projects.

The Board requires a broad mix of skill, experience and attributes to achieve the efficient and effective governance of the organisation. This is a voluntary role that requires integrity, sound judgement, teamwork and a genuine commitment to supporting excellent hospice care.

⏰ Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend:
- 4 Board Meetings per year
- 2–4 Committee or Trading Board meetings
- The AGM
- The Annual Trustee Away Day
Additional preparation time and occasional hospice events are also expected.
Out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
