SOS Children’s Villages UK is seeking passionate, strategic and collaborative individuals to join its Board of Trustees at one of the most important moments in the Charity’s history. In December 2025, the Board made the pivotal decision for the Charity to leave the SOS Children’s Villages Federation after more than 50 years. In autumn 2026, the organisation will re-launch under a new name and logo, while continuing to work with many existing partners and building new ways to increase its impact. 

The Charity’s core belief remains unchanged: all children have the right to feel loved, safe and supported. It focuses on children and young people without parental care, or at risk of losing it, through family strengthening, quality alternative care, youth employability and education, emergency support, advocacy and research.

Finance Trustee

We’re seeking a fully qualified accountant with:

• Experience in charity finance (international NGO experience is a plus) or capacity to develop the necessary knowledge and understanding
• Strategic insight into financial performance and risk
• The ability to contribute to the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee

SOS Children’s Villages UK particularly welcomes applications from individuals with direct experience of the UK or other care systems, as a child or adult.

Child Rights Trustee 

• Expertise in child rights, with experience in programme design or oversight, policy development and advocacy, ideally with an understanding of the rights of children who have lost, or are at risk of losing, parental care. 

• An understanding of the role that youth engagement and locally-led development play in achieving and sustaining good outcomes. 

• A thorough appreciation of the key challenges facing the international development sector. 

• Current direct experience of the countries or regions in which the Charity seeks to make an impact, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, to help inform Trustee decision-making.

The Sweaty Betty Foundation exists to remove the barriers that prevent women and girls from participating in physical activity. We are looking for a fundraising expert to join our external Finance Committee. In particular we’re looking for someone who can interrogate plans and performance, with experience of the marketplace and the need for fundraising investment. The ideal candidate will have a background in fundraising and developing income generation strategies but also a passion for innovation, insight and above all ‘best in class’ supporter care.

The Finance Committee is responsible for monitoring the financial performance of the full portfolio for the organisation. It plays a key role in protecting the financial health and sustainability of Samaritans and our vision that fewer people die by suicide. The Committee is a formal advisory committee of the Board of Trustees and reports on its work, conclusions and recommendations to the Board on a regular basis.

We are seeking applicants who will provide independent and effective advice to help the committee fulfil its responsibilities in:

• Monitoring and reviewing budgets, accounts and financial performance and making recommendations in response to identified areas of risk;
• Monitoring and reviewing fundraising plans, investments and ongoing performance and making recommendations;
• Assessing the investment and reserves policies for the organisation and reviewing performance.

Applicants for this role should have experience of senior fundraising roles.

About the role

Term: Committee members are usually appointed for a period of three years, with the possibility of a second three-year term.

Location: The role is home-based and may involve some travel within the UK. As a minimum, attendance is required at four committee meetings, either in person or online.

Remuneration: The role is voluntary.
