HSR UK is a small but ambitious charity dedicated to strengthening the role of health and social care research in policy and practice. We bring together researchers, service leaders, clinicians, policymakers, patient partners and others, helping research to drive real improvement in the NHS and social care.
We are now seeking three new Trustees to join our friendly and committed Board and help shape the next phase of our development.

HSR UK is the collective voice for health services and social care research in the UK.

- Connect and convene researchers, policymakers, managers, clinicians, and lived‑experience partners.
- Support the use of high‑quality research in practice and policy.
- Influence national agendas to help health and social care research thrive.
We have around 40 organisational members, run an annual conference attracting 350+ delegates, and lead work on mentoring, special interest groups, and major thematic projects such as equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and workforce research. We are hosted by the Nuffield Trust but we are a separate organisation.

You do not need to be an academic or professional researcher. We welcome a wide range of expertise, including people newer to board roles.With the board meeting mainly online, we also welcome candidates from all over the UK.
We’re especially interested in candidates with skills or experience in:
- Business development or income generation (e.g., grants, commissioning, fundraising, third sector)
- Health or social care delivery, including clinical, managerial or lived‑experience backgrounds
- Public involvement, co‑production or inclusive research
- Finance or governance
You will also bring:

- Good listening skills and openness to diverse perspectives
- A willingness to constructively challenge and be challenged

What the role involves
As a Trustee, you will contribute to:
- Setting and monitoring HSR UK’s strategic direction
- Ensuring strong governance and compliance
- Approving major decisions, policies, and annual accounts
- Considering and managing organisational risk
- Actively participating in board meetings and reading papers in advance
- Leading on a specific area of work (e.g., finance, conferences, events, governance), depending on your interests and skills
Practical details
Time commitment
- Around ½–1 day per month
- Five 90‑minute board meetings per year (online) plus our AGM in the autumn
- Option to join sub‑committees (1–2 meetings per year)
- Opportunity to help shape our annual conference and attend the conference in person

What will you be doing?
You’ll create engaging, inspiring content for our Social Media accounts – just 1-2 posts a week – helping us grow our online presence, connect with our supporters, and communicate our values around sustainability, biodiversity, and inclusion.
This is a flexible, part-time role requiring around 2 hours per week, or less if you can produce 4 monthly posts and leave them scheduled, ideal for someone looking to build their creative portfolio while supporting meaningful grassroots work.

We co-create with programme colleagues and volunteers, turning real experiences into stories, explainers, and resources that help people connect with our mission.

We take ethical marketing seriously. We prioritise respectful, consent-based storytelling, plain language, and accessibility (e.g., clear structure, alt text, readable layouts). We’d rather publish fewer, stronger pieces that we’re proud of than chase volume for the sake of a metric. You’ll have time to fact-check and shape narratives that are honest, strengths-based, and aligned with our values.

Objective
ZAKKI is seeking an experienced digital and social media professional with a background in brand visibility and awareness, increasing followers and engagement, and authoring and curating brand-centric content that’s in line with style, voice, and tone. Reporting to the Chairperson, the Digital Marketing Manager will actively develop ZAKKI’s brand engagement to boost the SEO across the website and social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others.
Context
ZAKKI is a social startup focusing on creating an inclusive community for the elderly and people with disabilities. Our mission is to facilitate alms and donations collection and distribution to help the elderly and people with disabilities who work in the informal sector to get better livelihood through micro-business management, giving them greater market exposure.
Currently, we are still redesigning ZAKKI fully function product. We are expecting to develop the ZAKKI fully function product in the upcoming years.

Engagement Description
The Content Creator will actively develop ZAKKI’s brand engagement across website and social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others. The Role:
We are currently seeking a Finance Trustee to join our Board as Treasurer. It’s a voluntary role that requires a committed individual with financial expertise to take a collaborative approach, supporting our Trustees, our Head of Finance and Governance, and our management team to oversee the financial affairs of our charity and ensure that they are legal, constitutional, and within accepted accounting practice.

Treasurer Role:
The primary role is to ensure alongside other Trustees that they accept ultimate responsibility for the affairs of G&C and ensure that it is solvent, well run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been set up. As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place and reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.
- Overseeing the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements, as produced by the finance team or others where appropriate, to the Board of Trustees
- Ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- Liaising with any paid staff about financial matters, as appropriate.
- Ensuring that robust and comprehensive financial policies are in place and being implemented, and supporting the development of policies covering financial reserves, and cost management.
- Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems.
- Drawing any major financial concerns to the attention of the trustee and the management team.
- Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves in line with its reserves policy, and monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity.
- Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.
- Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy and that investments and assets are maximised.
- Leading on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.

The Person We’re Looking For:
- A finance professional with a firm understanding of charity finance and some experience of fundraising and pension schemes.
- Knowledge of charity fundraising, bid writing, and/or other income generation and/or securing funding through creation or leveraging of partnerships and networks (at a national or local level).
- A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity and the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.
- Clear communicator with the ability to explain financial information to members of the Board and other stakeholders.
- Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, and liaising with auditors.
In addition, the Treasurer will also have the responsibilities and qualities of all Trustees.

It Gets Better UK is at an exciting moment. Over the past six years, we've grown from a grassroots initiative into a charity reaching millions of LGBTQ+ young people across the UK. Through digital storytelling, educational resources, and community engagement, we're combating isolation and discrimination – ensuring every young person knows their power and worthiness as individuals.
Now we're looking for our next Chair of Trustees to lead us into our next chapter.
