We are Tŷ Hafan.

We provide comfort, care and support to children with life-shortening conditions and their loved ones.

Too many families in Wales are struggling through the fear, exhaustion and uncertainty that comes with caring for a child whose life will be short.

At the moment we only have enough money and resources to support 10% of the families who need us.

Through volunteering, you can help us to reach every family who needs us.

As a Till & Customer Service Volunteer at our Cowbridge shop, you will assist our shop managers by serving and greeting customers and keeping the shop organised.

Our Cowbridge shop is in a prime location in the middle of the town's high street, immediately next to an all too tempting deli and about a two minute walk from the town car park.

The shop boasts a large window in which deputy manager Gemma creates themed and highly creative window for which they shop has won many an award.

Tom and Gemma have been utilising eBay to sell highest quality donations with great success and have recently launched a shop Instagram page (search tyhafancowbridge).

Tom and Gemma are always on the lookout for quirky, rare, vintage and high-value donations, and our jewellery, bric-a-brac and antiques specialists are more than happy to appraise any stock that comes our way. Further to this, books and vinyl also sell very well at Cowbridge.

The shop is open 9am-4:45pm Monday-Sunday and we appreciate any time you can spare.

Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from therapeutic services for children, to emotional and practical care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.

Considerations:

Age requirement: 18+

Location: 29 High Street, Cowbridge CF71 7AE

Commitment: Ideally, we would be looking for your support for at least 2 hours a week.

Current available shifts: Monday PM, Thursday PM

As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities, depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

•Providing a warm and friendly welcome to all customers entering the shop;

•Delivering excellent customer service to ensure a pleasant shopping experience;

•Handling cash transactions and operating the till with accuracy;

• Encouraging customers to sign up for Gift Aid, which increases the value of their donations;

• Selling and processing our raffle/lottery tickets;

• Acting as an ambassador for Tŷ Hafan, promoting our Big Ambition within your local community.

Professional experience in areas such as safe guarding, change management, and leadership skills are all useful to a school. Soft skills such as communication and problem solving are also great additions.

Dignify delivers educational workshops in schools to promote healthy relationships, self-respect, and respect for others. We work to prevent the harmful effects of pornography and challenge the normalisation of unhealthy sexual behaviours among young people. Through evidence-based sessions, we equip students with knowledge, empathy, and tools to navigate relationships positively.

Role Purpose

We are seeking Volunteer Schools Workers to accompany our lead Schools Worker in delivering workshops to children and young people. You’ll help create a safe, positive environment for learning, support classroom activities, and be an encouraging presence for students as they explore important topics around respect, relationships, and digital culture.

Key Responsibilities

· Accompany the lead Schools Worker to sessions in primary and secondary schools.

· Assist with setting up and packing away resources and equipment.

· Helping facilitate and monitoring small group sessions

· Observe and note student engagement to help evaluate sessions.

The Health Hub, in partnership with BrisDoc, provides access to healthcare for women who street sex work.

On Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesday the women can see a specialist nurse, sexual health nurse, and GP. Women can also access the things they need like clothing and hot food. 

Hairdresser- Health Hub volunteer: Role Description  

As part of the women’s access to health care we would like to offer free haircuts during Health Hub to the women, to help them with self-confidence and promote self-care.

We are looking for a qualified hairdresser to run a drop-in clinic for the women once a month on a Tuesday. 

This post is open to women only, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010. Following the recent Supreme Court judgment, this part of the Equality Act now means we may only consider applications from women who were assigned female at birth for this role. We welcome applicants to get in touch with us if they’d like to discuss this further.

Commitments needed: 

• One Tuesday a month from 12-4pm 

• To complete a volunteer induction

Do you enjoy public speaking? Do you want to share the message of who Mencap are, what we do and bust some myths to groups and corporates around learning disabilities? If the answer is yes, then our Mencap Volunteer Speaker role could be for you!

We’re looking for confident public speakers to represent Mencap by delivering Lunch and Learn talks. You’ll be fully supported with training, guidance, and a prepared presentation and script. In this role, you’ll deliver engaging sessions either in person or virtually via Teams, reaching a wide range of groups and organisations.

Frequently you'll be co-delivering these talks with people with a learning disability, so you'll hear first hand their stories and the impact you'll make.

For this role you will need access to your own laptop.

We want to spread the message of who Mencap are and the amazing work we do, so as well as attending lunch and learns requested by our current corporates, we're looking for volunteers who will as part of the role, proactively; research, reach out and contact local groups (e.g: Rotary Clubs, Women's Institutes) and share our lunch and learn presentation with them.

Position Overview:
The Programme Specialist is critical in supporting the delivery of a high-impact employability and skills development programme. Working under the guidance of the Programme Lead, this position focuses on coordinating projects, managing participant engagement, and ensuring the smooth execution of training initiatives, mentorship activities, and job placement efforts. The Programme Specialist directly empowers individuals to achieve workforce readiness and sustainable employment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Coordination:

   • Assist in managing day-to-day activities of the programme, including onboarding, skills assessments, and skills development of participants.

   • Track progress against programme milestones (e.g., participant enrollment and completion rates) and flag delays to the Programme Lead.

2. Participant Support:

   • Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, addressing inquiries and providing guidance on programme resources, training modules, and job search tools.

   • Maintain accurate participant records, including attendance, skill assessments, and post-program outcomes.

3. Stakeholder Engagement:

   • Support the Programme Lead in building relationships with internal stakeholders.

4. Data Management & Reporting:

   • Collect and analyse data on participant progress, employment outcomes, and programme effectiveness using CRM systems or databases.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Human Resources, or a related field.

• Experience:

  • 1–3 years in programme coordination, workforce development, adult education, or a similar role.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including youth, underserved communities, or career changers.

• Skills:

  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Google products (Forms, Sheets, Docs, Slides) and familiarity with CRM tools.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging participants and stakeholders.

  • Basic data analysis and reporting capabilities.
