Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career development professional to gain practical experience in operations and administration while supporting impactful community and conservation programmes in southeast Madagascar. Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin, the Junior Operations and Support Officer will play an important role in supporting the systems and processes that enable SEED Madagascar’s projects to run effectively.

SEED Madagascar is a UK registered charity dedicated to creating long-term, sustainable change in partnership with communities in the southeast of Madagascar. Our programmes integrate community health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, rural livelihoods and environmental conservation initiatives, while contributing to international best practice through research and publications.

Working within a collaborative team of national and international staff, the Junior Operations and Support Officer will contribute to the day-to-day operations that underpin SEED’s work. This office-based role provides a wide range of responsibilities, offering valuable experience across administration, organisational systems and programme support. The role will also involve occasional interaction with SEED’s Conservation Research Team in the field, providing orientations and pastoral care to the volunteers on their programme.

The position sits at the heart of SEED’s operations and offers broad exposure to the practical realities of working within an international development organisation. The successful candidate will support organisational policies and procedures, assist with the recruitment of international staff and volunteers, coordinate onboarding processes for new team members, and contribute to the management and promotion of SEED’s short-term conservation volunteer programme.

This role is ideal for someone who is organised, proactive and motivated to support a diverse team. Title: Junior Operations and Support Officer

Location: Fort Dauphin, Madagascar

Commitment: 12 months; Monday to Friday (35 hours a week)

Salary: Voluntary for 12 months, with stipend of 800,000 MGA per month towards accommodation and a contribution of £650 towards insurance

The Position

We are looking for a Grants Officer who can support us with diverse tasks that include looking for grants opportunities, project development, proposals writing, and liaising with potential partners and donors. In this role you’ll be a key contributor to the continued existence of Second Tree, which is dependent on grants to survive, and to the creation of new projects and partnerships. To do this successfully, you'll need to employ meticulous time-management and organisation skills, as juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines is common in this role.

The role will include:

• Researching and identifying new grant opportunities on a weekly basis

• Summarising relevant grant opportunities and suggesting how to best respond and comply with them

• Researching information and data necessary for grants and grant reporting

• Supporting the design of new projects

• Supporting with proposal writing

• Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for the Grants team

• Working with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all project proposals align with organisational, and programme strategies

• Establishing and maintaining connections with funding bodies

You should be able to:

• Professionally communicate in English (verbally and in writing)

• Read, comprehend, interpret, summarise and follow proposal guidelines

The ideal candidate will have:

• Working knowledge of project management techniques such as LFA

• Knowledge of and experience with grant-giving bodies and other external funding sources (e.g. European Commission)

• A strong sense of logic while building an argument

The role: 

• Liaise with different team leads to create enticing job descriptions for new volunteer roles

The Wardrobe Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining the chapter's costumes, wigs and props, ensuring they are available, clean and in good condition for events. The role involves keeping accurate records of costume allocation, coordinating costume distribution and returns, and supporting volunteers with costume requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain an inventory of all costumes, wigs and props.
• Keep accurate records of who has borrowed costumes and when they are returned.
• Ensure costumes are clean, well-presented and stored appropriately.
• Monitor costumes for wear and damage and arrange repairs when needed.
• Coordinate costume allocation for upcoming events.
• Update the Wardrobe Database and costume logs on OneDrive.
• Provide monthly updates to the committee regarding wardrobe stock and requirements.
• Work with the Board's Wardrobe Manager regarding costume needs and future purchases.
• Review event photographs and provide guidance on costume presentation where appropriate.

We are looking for a Community Engagement & Accountability Officer who is responsible for assisting in the implementation of integration activities and projects and ensuring that the needs and opinions of Second Tree community members are used to guide our work.

Your role would include:

• Creating timelines and coordinating plans for community engagement events

• Summarising relevant data collection in reports and project deliverables

• Communicating with community members and building trusting relationships

• Managing the organisation of proposals and other documents created by the CEA team

• Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for the CEA team

• Researching information and gathering data necessary for community reporting

• Working with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all community engagement events and projects align with organisational and programme strategies

• Supporting the CEA team by ensuring good levels of engagement with the community during activities and projects.

You should be able to:

• Be flexible with changing approaches and processes dependent on adjusting needs and contexts

• Take initiative and show high motivation

• Oversee the delivery of program activities and the completion of vital administrative and logistical tasks

Position Overview

The successful candidate will work within a combined national and international team to assist in the development of projects, from initial planning stages to final evaluations. Primary responsibilities include the writing of donor reports and proposals, providing additional support to the project team surrounding project management and monitoring and evaluation. The role is predominantly office-based with some bush travel. The diversity of activities undertaken will provide a wide-ranging experience for an early career development professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development.

What Will You Do?

As Lead Grants and Foundations, you will:

• Fundraising strategy: Design and implement a comprehensive strategy for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding foundation, corporate, and government grant prospects.

• Grant writing and management: Oversee the entire grants lifecycle, from researching funding opportunities and writing compelling proposals to managing awards, ensuring compliance, and submitting reports.
