Main tasks

We need individuals who can manage a group of volunteers within their region and work with Human Appeal staff members to ensure volunteers’ active involvement in events and campaigns.

 Recruit new volunteers and lead current volunteers who will be allocated to your team

 Communicate important campaign-related information to your team

 Organise 2 Fundraising events or community projects with your team within an assigned budget in the year.

 Actively attend and participate in Team Leader meetings and complete any actions allocated to you E.g Recruiting volunteers for online fundraising.

 Work with the Human Appeal staff team to deliver campaigns and 2 in-person events for the year.

 Organise and attend Monthly Meetings with your Volunteers

 Where possible, support with Team Leader recruitment by joining the interviewing panel

Role – Community Engagement Volunteer

Are you passionate about supporting the Armed Forces Community? Could you help to raise awareness for SSAFA in your local area? You don’t need a military background, just the ability to get on with all kinds of people and some occasional free time.

What is a Community Engagement Volunteer?

As a community engagement volunteer, you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. We want to ensure that our Armed Forces community knows that SSAFA is here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families.

A varied programme of awareness raising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.

New trustees wanted

We are looking for up to three people to be active members of our Board of Trustees.
Together with the other trustees, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders you will help the
Foodbank deliver a non-judgemental and compassionate service, and help us as we
work towards a future where foodbanks are no longer needed. The Trustee may be
asked to take the lead on specific areas of our work, utilising their experience and
skills. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have experience in
fundraising/bid writing, human resources, communications/PR, and property
management.

address the root causes of people needing to use our foodbank to alleviate poverty
within our community.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT VOLUNTEER

First Aid Services Operations deploy hundreds of volunteers and employees every week on community and
commercial events, to make sure first aid is available in our local communities, as and when it is needed.
Operational Support is a flexible role which will work with, and proactively provide support to, various teams
to ensure volunteers always have a positive experience. This could range from carrying out practical tasks
which positively impact our people’s welfare on events, to be a friendly face welcoming new volunteers to
selection events, or existing volunteers to their Clinical Competency Assessments, or even helping Units to
increase their presence in the community.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE INVOLVED IN (DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES)

• On first aid events, work with Event Managers, Treatment Centre Managers, Event Communications teams and Logistics teams, to support the welfare of adult volunteers and employees by taking proactive action. This can include making sure people are taking sufficient breaks, drinking plenty of water, eating appropriately and supporting one another. Other tasks could include helping make and serve refreshments, regularly checking to see if everyone is ok and signposting to support available through MyWellbeing, where necessary.
• Support Training and Recruitment teams on selection events, welcome events, training events and Clinical Competency Assessments, to ensure they run smoothly and are a positive experience. Thiscan include welcoming and signing in attendees, collating and processing relevant paperwork, inputting outcomes on computer programmes, providing refreshments and invigilating written assessments.
• Assist Unit Managers to increase their Unit’s presence in the local community by promoting recruitment opportunities, supporting the fundraising lead and building relationships with local organisations to raise awareness of first aid.
• Perform any other administrative and support duties commensurate with these responsibilities to keep the organisation running smoothly.

About WAST

We are a grassroots organisation led-by and for women seeking asylum in Greater Manchester. We campaign for social justice and women's rights through a peer-led support model that helps women find their place in the UK. Women seeking asylum continue to live in a hostile environment where they often feel vulnerable and isolated. WAST (Women Asylum Seekers Together) seeks to combat this by offering a safe space where women can be heard, build confidence, and develop new skills.

The Roles

Due to the retirement of three long-standing trustees, we are recruiting four women to join our diverse Board of Trustees and help us deliver projects that the women themselves have identified as priorities.

One of these positions is for a Treasurer, who will support the Board in overseeing the charity’s finances, ensuring strong financial management and sustainability.

We are also particularly interested in recruiting more Trustees with lived experience of the asylum system, or the immigration system. WAST’s Chair and Honorary Chair have lived experience, and we would very much value more women with lived experience on our board. 

The current Board have a diverse range of skills. We particularly welcome applications from women with experience of campaigning, fundraising or human resources. However, this should not put off any potential applicants who may bring other qualities to the Board.

Expenses: This is a voluntary position, but we reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses in line with our policy

Main tasks

We need individuals who can manage a group of volunteers within their region and work with Human Appeal staff members to ensure volunteers’ active involvement in events and campaigns.

 Recruit new volunteers and lead current volunteers who will be allocated to your team

 Communicate important campaign-related information to your team

 Organise 2 Fundraising events or community projects with your team within an assigned budget in the year.

 Actively attend and participate in Team Leader meetings and complete any actions allocated to you E.g Recruiting volunteers for online fundraising.

 Work with the Human Appeal staff team to deliver campaigns and 2 in-person events for the year.

 Organise and attend Monthly Meetings with your Volunteers

 Where possible, support with Team Leader recruitment by joining the interviewing panel

Knowledge/Experience/Skills

We will provide you with the tools, training and support you need but here are a few things we are looking for:

 Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing, innovation and interpersonal skills

 Willingness to learn and develop as an individual and accept constructive feedback

 Ability to build and maintain relationships with all levels of people

Learning and Development

To enable you to take part in this opportunity Human Appeal will provide:

 Leadership training to help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to fulfil the role
