Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key Volunteer:

Our Key Volunteer role is an extra level of responsibility for someone who can commit to supporting their local Sense Shop on a regular basis. Once you've had all the training, you'll be getting involved by:

• Learning and following fire procedures.
• Open and close the shop when necessary to support the Shop Manager.
• Cash up the till at the end of the day.

The Choir with No Name runs choirs and builds joyful singing communities with people impacted by homelessness and marginalisation across the UK. Our vision is simple but powerful: that everyone going through tough times can find a place to sing their hearts out, among friends. We are now looking for passionate and skilled people to join our board of trustees and help us deliver on that vision.

As a trustee, you will be joining a committed and experienced board at an exciting moment in our charity's development. We are currently developing a new three-year strategy with ambitions to grow our reach, open new choirs, and deepen our impact with the people we serve. Our board is supported by four sub-committees - Finance and Fundraising, Artistic Direction, Business Development, and People - and we are looking for trustees who can contribute meaningfully to one or more of these areas.

We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience in areas where we are looking to strengthen the board, including communications, PR, choral singing and music and health. We are also keen to build a board that reflects the communities we serve, and we actively encourage applications from people with lived experience of homelessness or marginalisation, and from those who are currently underrepresented in the charity sector.

Trusteeship with the Choir with No Name is a voluntary role, but it is far from a passive one. We are an organisation full of warmth, creativity and ambition, and we want trustees who will bring their skills and experience to bear while sharing our deep commitment to using the power of singing to change lives. If you believe - as we do - that singing together can transform people's wellbeing and open up new possibilities, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As Talent Acquisition Business Partner, you will play a hands-on role in delivering end-to-end recruitment while partnering closely with hiring managers to meet organisational talent needs. Working with the Global Head of Talent, you will support workforce planning, attract high-quality candidates, and ensure a seamless, positive hiring experience across Project Yananai.

Key Responsibilities

Talent Acquisition Delivery

• Manage end-to-end recruitment processes from role briefing to onboarding.

• Draft and advertise roles across relevant platforms and networks.

• Screen, shortlist, and coordinate interviews with candidates.

• Ensure timely and professional communication throughout the hiring process.

Business Partnering

• Partner with hiring managers to understand workforce needs and role requirements.

• Provide advice on recruitment strategies, timelines, and best practices.

• Support effective decision-making through structured feedback and insights.

Talent Attraction & Pipeline Building

• Proactively source candidates using job boards, social media, and networks.

• Build and maintain talent pipelines for current and future hiring needs.

• Promote Project Yananai’s employer brand to attract mission-aligned talent.

Candidate Experience & Onboarding

• Deliver a positive, inclusive, and engaging candidate experience.

• Support onboarding to ensure a smooth transition for new joiners.

Reporting & Compliance

• Maintain accurate recruitment data and track hiring activity.

• Provide regular updates and insights to the Global Head of Talent.

• Ensure compliance with organisational policies and data protection standards.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to enhance recruitment processes and efficiency.

• Contribute to improving talent acquisition strategies and tools.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Qualifications

• Experience in talent acquisition, recruitment, or HR in a fast-paced or mission-driven environment.

• Proven experience managing end-to-end recruitment processes.

• Experience partnering with stakeholders or hiring managers.

• Familiarity with recruitment systems or tools (desirable).

As we plan to expand our reach and develop new services, we are seeking a Treasurer to help guide our financial strategy and governance.

We are looking for someone with a background in finance or accounting, who can:

• Oversee our financial health in collaboration with our Head of Finance and CEO
• Ensure effective financial controls, policies, and reporting are in place
• Play an active role in the Finance Committee and wider Board decision-making
• Present clear and insightful financial information to fellow Trustees

• Fundraising Heroes - Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.
