We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Please note that this is a voluntary, unpaid role, based in the UK. We are unfortunately not able to provide support with visa requests. 

Volunteering in the shop

Our Pebbles Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).

The Role

Why we want you

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

• Administrators - Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

The skills you need

• Confident to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face.
• Reliable attitude, staying connected with your Branch and/or Community Engagement Manager about your availability.

Our shops help raise vital funds, and volunteering with us is a great way to make a difference, meet new people, and join a fantastic team.

On site we have two shops to volunteer in. The Showroom is Martlets primary furniture and home goods store and the Discount Shop is home to our £1 clothing rails. Both are hubs for our local community to share stories and bag a bargain! We work together with the warehouse to take in the majority of donations for the charity.

Volunteering in our shops offers a variety of exciting tasks. From sorting and pricing donations to spotting hidden gems, you'll roll up your sleeves in the backroom and assist on the shop floor. Engaging with customers is key, whether you're serving with a smile, working the till or helping donors complete Gift Aid forms.

• Time and dedication to prepare for and attend meetings.

 
Professional finance qualifications (e.g., accountant or auditor) are highly desirable, particularly for the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee.
 
Your commitment

• Around 5 Board meetings per year (4 half-day, 1 full day)
• Membership of at least one Board committee (4–6 meetings annually)
• Occasional monitoring visits to site
• Preparation time for reading papers and training.
• Meetings are normally held in Much Hadham, with remote attendance available where necessary.

About Us

Cities for Children believes that all children deserve the “Right to Childhood” – the right to learn and play in safety. Role Overview

Cities for Children is looking for compassionate and enthusiastic volunteers to support our work bringing playful learning to refugee children in transitional housing in West London. These sessions are designed to help children build confidence, resilience, and English language skills, while fostering a sense of belonging and joy in their new environment. 

This is your opportunity to step into a role where your kindness creates real change. You will be a crucial part of a child’s journey towards settling in the UK, gaining valuable, hands-on experience with an international NGO dedicated to child wellbeing and humanitarian response. 

Commitment

• Day/Time: 2 days a week

• Dates: 13 July - 1 September

• Location: West London (Exact locations shared upon successful application)

Key Responsibilities

• Support lead facilitator in delivering playful, interactive learning activities (such as arts, storytelling, and games) and help with setup and pack-up.

• Build rapport with the children to encourage active participation and maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive environment.

• Support data collection, documentation and evaluation activities. 

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who: 

• Has an academic background in social sciences or education (preferred). 

• Is able to engage children, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds. Experience with refugee or asylum-seeking children is a bonus but not required. 

• Is patient, empathetic, and culturally sensitive, with an understanding of the challenges refugee children face as they adapt to a new country. 

• Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with the main facilitator and other team members. 

• Is enthusiastic and reliable, committed to attending sessions every Thursday. 

• Has an enhanced DBS check.

Support Provided

• A structured session plan will be created by the main facilitator for you to follow. 

• Guidance and training on working with vulnerable children will be provided. 

• Reasonable travel expenses covered. 

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early application is strongly encouraged.

Volunteer at GDIF 2026! 

Greenwich+Docklands International Festival (GDIF) is London's leading festival of free outdoor theatre and performing arts. Each year, more than 100 volunteers help bring the festival to life, welcoming audiences, supporting events, and creating an unforgettable experience across South East London. 

The festival runs from 21 August - 6 September 2026. 

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to play a vital role in delivering the festival. Whether you'd like to be a friendly face for audiences, take on a Team Leader role supporting fellow volunteers, or support our access team to help make the festival welcoming and accessible for everyone, there are a range of opportunities to get involved. 

As a GDIF volunteer, you will: 

• Connect with local communities and meet new people across South East London. 
• Develop valuable communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. 
• Work alongside like-minded people with a passion for arts, culture and live events. 
• Gain hands-on experience in festival and event delivery. 
• Build your confidence and enhance your CV with practical experience.

We're looking for people who are: 

• Aged 18 or over.

• Team Leader and Access Team Leader roles require some previous leadership experience. 

Volunteer Roles

Festival Volunteer 
Support the day-to-day running of the festival by welcoming audiences, sharing information, assisting with engagement activities, collecting feedback and donations, and helping create a positive, inclusive atmosphere. 

Team Leader 
Support a small team of volunteers onsite, acting as the main point of contact between volunteers and the Volunteer Coordinator. Ideal for experienced leaders who are confident taking on additional responsibility. 

Access Champion 
Access Champions are volunteers who work with the access team to support audiences with access requirements to enjoy the festival. 

Access Team Leader 
Lead a team of Access Champions at events, providing support and guidance while acting as a key link between volunteers and GDIF's Access Managers to help deliver an accessible and inclusive festival experience. 

ABOUT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FOUNDATION
Tottenham Hotspur Foundation is the charitable arm of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Using the power of sport, we work with local communities to improve physical health, mental wellbeing, education, and employment outcomes.

Through our Health & Wellbeing programmes, including Making Sport a Daily Habit (MSADH), we support adults who may be inactive, face health inequalities, or live with long-term health conditions to move more, feel better, and connect with others. Your Role as a Mentor

As a mentor, you will hold weekly one-on-one sessions of 1-3 hours for the duration of 12 months. Whether you’re playing games or discussing goals, you’ll be making a difference in a child’s life by developing the tools for a positive future.
