As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community to ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

Make a meaningful difference by becoming a friendly visitor for a gentleman in his early 70s who, while non-verbal, is active, engaged, and enjoys simple pleasures. He loves doing jigsaws, reading gardening magazines, and watching television. This is a “stop and stay” role where you’ll spend relaxed, quality time together helping with a jigsaw, sharing quiet moments, and offering companionship.

This is a Stop and Stay visit role, meaning that the person you’ll be visiting might have some verbal communication skills or they use sounds and/or facial/body expressions to communicate with you.fr

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tend to be around half an hour to an hour long.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:

• Sitting and having a chat
• Checking in on their well- being
• A craft activity at home
• Reading a book/magazine together

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

As a Network President for Oldham, Rochdale & Tameside– you will support the Network Lead; act as an ambassador to the local community on behalf of St John Ambulance and the Order of St John, promoting the charity’s objectives and our work within the local community.

You will have established links in the community and be able to help SJA achieve our charitable aims by developing relations both externally and internally with local units, volunteer managers, regional staff and with the County Priory Group and other Presidents. All you do will be aimed at supporting the area to fulfil our vision: ‘Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.’

The role is only for people in Oldham, Rochdale & Tameside. You will need to attend a Network meeting that is two hours a week in Denton or Oldham.

Trustee

Age UK Lewisham & Southwark is seeking to appoint several new trustees as part of its ongoing Board development and succession planning.

We are looking for a Community Engagement & Accountability Officer who is responsible for assisting in the implementation of integration activities and projects and ensuring that the needs and opinions of Second Tree community members are used to guide our work.

Your role would include:

• Creating timelines and coordinating plans for community engagement events

• Summarising relevant data collection in reports and project deliverables

• Communicating with community members and building trusting relationships

• Managing the organisation of proposals and other documents created by the CEA team

• Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for the CEA team

• Researching information and gathering data necessary for community reporting

• Working with the wider Second Tree team to ensure that all community engagement events and projects align with organisational and programme strategies

• Supporting the CEA team by ensuring good levels of engagement with the community during activities and projects.

You should be able to:

SUNSHINE Charity

Shining a light on loneliness

Cards for Bravery is a registered charity dedicated to brightening the days and improving the emotional wellbeing of hospitalised and seriously ill children through services such as the distribution of positive handmade cards, care packages, and activity packs.

As part of our charity, we distribute 'Bravery' Packages to seriously ill children. These are care packages full of gifts to help brighten the days of seriously ill children and their families.

As a Bravery Package volunteer, you will assist the charity with coordinating and putting these packages together.

This is a vital role for our organisation and we are looking for reliable applicants. Applicants will work alongside one of our current Bravery Package Volunteers.

This role is hybrid, with remote work online but also requires some volunteering to be completed in person in Braintree, CM7 2NL area. Applicants must be able to travel to this area when needed and travel expenses can be reimbursed if needed. The office is wheelchair accessible. In-person timings can be flexible including weekdays and weekends.

A DBS Check will be required for this role, completed by the charity.

• Basic computer skills for using emails, Google Forms and Google Sheets (informal training will be provided but basic IT skills is helpful).

The role will include activities such as:

• Helping to maintain the dedicated bravery package email
• Helping to maintain and oversee the nomination form
• Creating and packing Bravery Packages
• Contacting businesses for potential donations
• Keeping track of stock of donations of items
• Support with distributing and posting Bravery Packages

As a team member, we also require you

• Attend at least 3 monthly team meetings a year (out of 6, remote via Google Meets)
• Be part of a unique team and give ideas to help broaden Cards for Bravery
• Regularly communicate and keep in contact with your volunteer coordinator

About Canterbury Cathedral

Founded by St Augustine in 597 AD, Canterbury Cathedral is a unique place of worship, a major pilgrimage destination, a masterpiece of art and architecture, and one of the UK’s most-visited historic sites. Often referred to as ‘England in stone’, the Cathedral has been at the centre of momentous events and upheavals. Chapter is the body corporate of Canterbury Cathedral. Its members have the general control and management of the administration of the Cathedral. Canterbury Cathedral became a full charity in February 2024 (under the Cathedrals Measure 2021) and as well as being regulated by the Church Commissioners, will also be regulated by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

About the Role of Member of Chapter and Lay Canon

Chapter members play a vital and strategic role in maintaining the Christian vision and mission of the Cathedral, as well as its corporate governance.

All Chapter members must either be an actual communicant (within the meaning given in Rule 83(2) of the Church of England’s Church Representation Rules) or a communicant member of a Church which is not in communion with the Church of England but subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. An “actual communicant member” of the Church of England is legally defined as a baptized person who is confirmed (or ready to be confirmed) and has received Holy Communion at least three times in the preceding twelve months. 

Person Specification

In this recruitment campaign we are seeking to appoint one member of Chapter and Lay Canon. We are particularly interested to hear from candidates who have a safeguarding background, with knowledge of safeguarding legislation, policy and practice that encompasses both adults and children.

We are also seeking candidates who:

• Are committed to the Cathedral’s Christian vision, mission and ministry. 
• Are able to reflect the ethos set out in the Nolan Principles within our charitable context.
• Show demonstrable strategic leadership and management skills and able to provide effective strategic guidance.

• Have the ability to gain the trust, respect and support of fellow members of Chapter and the wider Cathedral community.

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Our Cat welfare team leaders have the important role of coordinating, encouraging and supporting teams of fosterer volunteers and cat care volunteers. They help make sure volunteers with direct cat care roles are happy and confident and provide advice and guidance when needed. What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
• Support fosterers to follow cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
• Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures

Time expectation

The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
