Volunteering in the shop

Our Pebbles Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Job Description

We are looking for a Volunteer SEO & Content Strategy Manager to help plan and manage the CIC’s content and search strategy.

You will ensure our educational materials, campaigns, and survivor-centred resources are easy to find, well-structured, and accessible online. This role involves working with the Digital Marketing Director and Digital Marketing team to organise content into a long-term strategy that supports awareness, education, and engagement.

The role focuses on SEO, content systems, and structured knowledge management.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an SEO and content strategy aligned with CIC’s mission and campaigns
• Conduct keyword research and topic analysis related to CSA awareness, survivor support, and education
• Plan structured content systems such as pillar pages, topic clusters, and learning pathways
• Work with copywriters, designers, and campaign leads to prioritise content
• Optimise website pages, blogs, and campaign content for search visibility and accessibility
• Track content performance using search and engagement data
• Identify content gaps and opportunities for educational resources
• Ensure all content follows trauma-informed and safeguarding standards
• Document content strategy, workflows, and processes for scalability

What We’re Looking For

• Experience or interest in SEO, content strategy, or digital publishing
• Ability to plan long-term content systems rather than individual posts
• Familiarity with SEO tools, analytics platforms, or content management systems
• Strategic thinking and structured planning skills
• Sensitivity and ethical awareness when communicating about serious topics
• Comfort collaborating with a remote volunteer team
• Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or educational content is helpful but not required

It’s an exciting time to join Victim Support, as we prepare to begin delivery of the Witness Service from April 2026. We look forward to welcoming current Witness Service staff and volunteers to Victim Support — and we’re also now beginning recruitment for several new roles and to fill vacant positions.  

The Witness Service provides free, independent support to any witness giving evidence in criminal courts in England and Wales — both for the prosecution and the defence.  

Our trained staff and volunteers help people understand what to expect before, during and after a trial, and offer practical and emotional support every step of the way, so witnesses can give their best evidence.   

The Witness Service also supports bereaved family members, and friends and family who are accompanying witnesses in court.   

This is an exceptional opportunity to help us ensure a smooth transition and shape a high-quality, high-impact and trauma-informed service — so every witness feels informed, supported and more confident in court.  

Witness Service Volunteers provide support to victims and witnesses of crime prior to and during the court process helping them to feel safe and informed.

What do we ask of you?

In order to join us as a Witness Service Volunteer, you must: 

• Be 18 years of age or over. 

• Be able to volunteer for at least 1 day per week, for at least 12 months. 

• Undertake training - this includes virtual training days as well as completing online learning modules. 

• Undertake an enhanced DBS check & be part of the DBS update service.

• Be able to provide two satisfactory references. 

• Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams are key to raising vital funds for our work and act as incredible advocates for the rights of children both in the UK and around the world.

Volunteering in the shop

Our Garstang Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. East London Rape Crisis provides a range of support services to women and girls affected by sexual violence; including an Information & Support service, counselling, advocacy and group workshops

About the role

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to become part of our team.

Our volunteers support women through our Information & Support Services, providing emotional and practical support to survivors of sexual violence, their friends, family and other professionals via telephone and email support. There are also opportunities to support the team with administrative tasks that do not involve direct contact with survivors.

You will get:

• The opportunity to provide invaluable support to survivors of sexual violence from within a feminist framework
• The opportunity to volunteer within a leading, London-based violence against women organisation
• Full supervision & support
• Internal training on violence against women, safeguarding, helpline skills, organisational systems & policies
• A professional reference against the advertised Volunteer Profile that can be used for future employment.

Volunteers will:

• Have an interest in, and understanding of, issues relating to male violence against women and girls
• Have good IT skills
• Align with nia values

Volunteers must:

• Be available for one of the below interview dates and all of the below training dates
• Be able to commit to in person volunteering for 4 hours per week for a minimum of 12 months
• Be able to commit to attending monthly team supervision. This currently takes place on line on the first Monday of each month from 18:00- 19:30pm (includes training and development opportunities).

Our Home-Visiting Service supports families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and who have at least one child under the age of five years.

Our aims are:

To increase the confidence and independence of the family by:

Offering support, friendship and practical assistance

Visiting families in their own homes and in their community, where the dignity and identity of each adult and child can be respected and protected

Reassuring parents that difficulties in bringing up children is not unusual and encouraging them to enjoy family life.

Developing a relationship with the family in which time can be shared and understanding can be developed. This approach is flexible to take account of different needs.

Encouraging parents’ strengths and emotional wellbeing – for the ultimate benefit of their children.

Encouraging families to widen their network of relationships, and to effectively use the support and services available within the community.
