Without the help and support we receive from our Lead Volunteers and volunteer teams we wouldn’t be successful at what we do. Our Lead Volunteers play a key role by supporting the shop management team with the day to day running and management of our shops - helping us to raise crucial funds from the sale of pre-loved, donated stock to fund Mind's vital mental health support services.

Our shops are vibrant hubs in local communities across England and Wales. In our Lead Volunteer role, you’ll play a key part in building this community, helping to create a culture where every person is valued and supported - and where people have fun!

Mind Retail are a network of almost 200 shops across England and Wales, generating a net income of around £21 million per year. Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?

I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.

I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.

What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!

What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?

I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.

What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.

What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?

Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…

It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

Role summary

St Helena is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to be part of their fundraising team, supporting events and initiatives in their local areas to help raise awareness and much needed funds. The role is flexible and we will fit around your availability. We have events throughout the year and would invite you to support across all areas of fundraising. 

Main duties of this role may include any of the following:

• Attend St Helena events to help with marshalling, registration, refreshments or selling merchandise

• Attend external third party events to represent St Helena

• Attend external events and venues to engage with the public to encourage participants to sign up to events and challenges

• Participate in bucket collections and other fundraising opportunities in the local community as requested

• Be able to set up and oversee a stand at events and promotional opportunities in the local community including supermarkets, markets, town centres, fayres, Christmas light switch-ons and similar events

Volunteer Role: Event Volunteer

Location: Across Wales

Frequency: A few hours across the year

Reporting to: Adoption Community Manager

Safeguarding: Enhanced DBS 

Events organised by Adoption UK Cymru are facilitated face to face or virtual meetings/events run by community group coordinators (who are volunteers) or the Adoption Community Manager. The events are run to offer local networking, support, information, advice, guidance and a sense of community for adoption UK members.

Events are held at different points during the year, and the frequency is dependent on the availability of the Adoption Community Manager or our Community Group Volunteers.

What you will be doing 

There could be a range of tasks depending on the event and your preferences. You could be setting up equipment and displays or helping to check in families on arrival at an event or supporting activities with children or adults. You will be a welcoming face and point of contact for families during an event.

Are you looking for a pivotal role in a diverse, groundbreaking charity? Join Hidayah as our next treasurer on the Board of Trustees. 

Hidayah is a volunteer-led organisation supporting LGBTQ+ Muslims through community support, advocacy, education, and wellbeing initiatives.

The treasurer carries out Hidayah’s financial responsibilities, files reports, and presents regularly to the Board of Trustees. 

What do we specifically expect of this role?

• To take accountability for the bank account and to be an authorised signatory.

• To present financial updates at Trustee meetings and to devolve budgets where necessary.

• To ensure adherence to budgets.

• To present a predicted target and actual budget for the year.

• To work with the chair to give breakdowns of costings for fundraising bids and for events/activities/paid members of staff.

• To create the annual year-end financial report for the Charity Commission.

• To seek out revenue opportunities within the limits of Hidayah’s activities.

• To document how restricted and unrestricted funds are spent, including reports for grant funders.

• To approach organisations for donations and sponsorship opportunities.

• To increase revenue through public donations (online and actual) and to be proactive in doing this.

• To work with other Trustees to plan income-generating activities.

How much commitment is required?

This role requires a minimum commitment of 4–5 hours per week, with additional time required during busy periods or organisational activities. The following commitments are in place for all Hidayah Trustees:

• To be able to attend all Trustee meetings.

• To deliver a comprehensive report at each Board meeting with updates, completing actions in time;

• To aim to attend all other meetings as necessary, including the annual Strategy Day, annual General Meeting and (where geography permits) Hidayah events.

• To help to fundraise for and advertise any Hidayah events and fundraising drives.

• To be part of a communications group (via Discord) to keep up to date with Hidayah developments.

• To contribute to and to maintain the administration of our file-sharing system, Google Drive, so it is always up-to-date with clear records, templates, and forms.

• To check emails and to respond when needed.

• Line managing the finance assistant, including regular 121 meetings.

• Enthusiasm, dedication, responsiveness, flexibility, and eagerness in supporting the aims, vision, and mission of Hidayah.

• To contribute to the Charity Commission's annual report once a year.

• The role is subject to a 6-month probationary period.

• To read new Hidayah policies and initiatives.

• To read, understand, and agree with the constitution of Hidayah (available on the website).

What do we expect from a treasurer?

Please note that you must agree with and fit the essential criteria below to be eligible to volunteer in this role:

Knowledge & Experience:

• Educated to degree level or has experience which demonstrates equivalent analytical ability.

• Knowledge of quality assurance systems and their benefits for the voluntary sector.

• Knowledge of good governance procedures for the voluntary sector.

• Experience of budget management, preferably in the charity sector, but applicable to other sectors.

• High level of numeracy and close attention to detail.

• Basic AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) experience is desirable but not essential.

Skills & Attributes

• Ability or willingness to learn line managing, developing, coaching, and motivating volunteers.

• Working and influencing at both a strategic and operational level, ensuring excellent working relationships with trustees and volunteers.

The Volunteer Team Leader / Deputy Team Leader leads the local volunteer team by motivating and supporting members to deliver agreed objectives. The role provides strategic direction, management, and guidance while ensuring a positive, inclusive, and effective team environment.

What difference will you make?

As Volunteer Team Leader / Deputy Team Leader, you will play a key role in empowering people to create safer communities. 

You will lead the local volunteer team, setting direction and ensuring activity aligns with Crimestoppers’ mission that people are the ones who stop crime. 

You will working closely with the Police, Community Safety Partnerships, and local organisations, and help deliver campaigns and events that improve community safety. 

Through regular communication with regional and national staff, you will ensure your volunteers stay informed, connected, and supported.

You also help to recruit, support, and develop volunteers, creating an inclusive and motivated local team. 

Volunteer Team Leader / Deputy Team Leader applicants must live in the local area where you are applying.

This role requires a commitment of around three years to support continuity and effective delivery. Monthly time commitments vary and may include:

Volunteers are essential to Shannon Trust and bring their energy, ideas and skills to train mentors in prisons, support learners in the community and enhance our business support team.

We are looking for volunteers to provide training and support to our mentors in prison. There may be some additional preparation and/ or administrative tasks in between volunteering days at the prison.

Our prison volunteers nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by delivering training sessions for prison mentors and offering ongoing advice, guidance and support through mentor meetings.

Volunteer recruitment dates

The closing date for applications to attend our next round of training is 6 September 2026. In some circumstances, volunteer vacancies may close early. Successful applicants will be sent interview questions in advance with notice to prepare. We will respond to all applications. Successful applicants will be invited to an interview between 7 and 18 September 2026. This is an opportunity for you to meet our regional team, to find out more about you and for us to share more information about the volunteering role.

Training:

You'll be given high quality training to prepare you for volunteering with Shannon Trust. This takes place over 4 training sessions and via our online training portal. We ask that volunteers aim to complete the training in one course as this means that you will be ready to start actively volunteering. The next training sessions for volunteering for people applying to be a prison based volunteer will take place as follows.

You’ll also receive the opportunity to attend ongoing training sessions and peer support meetings during your time as a volunteer to build your skills and experience.

Why we want you

Shannon Trust’s vision is of a future where everyone can experience the positive impact of learning. As a prison volunteer your role will be at the heart of our organisation as you support our mentors in prisons. This will include delivering training to new mentors and supporting existing mentors to develop and deliver our Turning Pages and Count Me In programmes. You will be volunteering alongside Shannon Trust facilitators and / or frontline prison staff to empower mentors and ensure no one is left out of learning.

What you will be doing

• Delivering initial, and ongoing, training to mentors in prisons
• Supporting and encouraging the Shannon Trust facilitator and mentors to attract new learners and expand the reach of the Shannon Trust programme
• Arranging and leading mentor meetings to develop mentors’ skills, share good practice and to provide support to mentors to find solutions to concerns
• Supporting facilitators to engage prison staff and people in prison to set-up, maintain and develop the Shannon Trust reading and numeracy programmes across the whole prison, and contributing to progress planning for how to progress and achieve this
• Using your skills to build positive relationships with frontline prison staff, people in prison and other organisations
• Training and supporting mentors to collect and submit data and learner feedback
• Supporting with the planning of, and attendance at, celebration events
• Collecting and sharing good news stories and feedback
• Attending area meetings and sharing good practice with other volunteers
• Engaging with quarterly reviews to receive support and discuss progress
• Acting as an ambassador for Shannon Trust in all that you do, sharing the vision and values of the charity throughout your volunteering

Our shops help raise vital funds, and volunteering with us is a great way to make a difference, meet new people, and join a fantastic team.

On site we have two shops to volunteer in. The Showroom is Martlets primary furniture and home goods store and the Discount Shop is home to our £1 clothing rails. Both are hubs for our local community to share stories and bag a bargain! We work together with the warehouse to take in the majority of donations for the charity.

Volunteering in our shops offers a variety of exciting tasks. From sorting and pricing donations to spotting hidden gems, you'll roll up your sleeves in the backroom and assist on the shop floor. Engaging with customers is key, whether you're serving with a smile, working the till or helping donors complete Gift Aid forms.

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing broader financial management, including budgeting, financial forecasting, resource allocation and fundraising.

Key Responsibilities:

• Having oversight of all financial management across the organization and developing reports for the board
• To overall manage budgeting and financial forecasting
• To ensure that the department heads covering fundraising and finance are supported and well aligned with the strategic direction and priorities of Youth Advantage UK
• To ensure the organization has sufficient financial resources
• To ensure fundraising occurs and supports the organization's need
• To line manage departmental heads with relevant departments
• To contribute to wider C Level Executive work such as taking part in meetings, presenting the organization and dealing with problems as they arise

Requirements:

• To have over 5 years of experience in the financial sector
• To have at least 2 years of experience in a senior financial management role (such as Senior Manager or Department Head) 
• To be able to provide leadership and management
• To have good IT skills, accounting skills, budgeting skills, ability to use spreadsheets and remote systems and good communication skills

Event Fundraising Volunteer

Role Description

Volunteers are incredibly important to Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity. We cannot achieve our mission without them. They help us reach a wider audience and spread our message to a more diverse group and help us raise vital funds to help communities in Greater Manchester.

Role Purpose

Fundraising Volunteers help us to deliver our portfolio of events throughout the year, across Greater Manchester. This may include helping with organising in the lead up to the event or helping at the actual event, and after. There are many different ways to volunteer with Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity.

Main Activities

Gala Dinner – every March we throw a HUGE bash for businesses in Greater Manchester, up to 400 people join us to raise funds for our work. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work and we need people to help on the night with selling raffle tickets, meeting and greeting guests, and generally ensuring the night runs smoothly.

Bus Pull – our annual Bus Pull brings together businesses and groups to pull a bus at Manchester Central to raise funds. It’s a great team building day and the element of competition always makes it a lively event. Duties may include signing in teams and ensuring they know when they are taking part, cheering on teams and generally helping the event run smoothly.

24 Hour Run – another key event on the Manchester calendar attracting over 1,000 participants to run laps of 5km around the city. We need help with signing in runners, organising the groups, cheering them on and welcoming them back and making them feel appreciated for all that they have done!

Winter Campaign – our annual Winter Campaign gains a lot of media interest locally. We are going to be growing this over the coming years with new opportunities for fundraising, this might include events, gatherings or other engagement plan.

What do we need from you?

Reliability – if you sign up as a volunteer please ensure you have the time and capacity to do so. We don’t want to add to your workload! Volunteering for Grater Manchester Mayor’s Charity should be fun and rewarding, not another thing on your ‘to do list’.

Happy to chat – our volunteers are our ‘front face’ at our events and we need to know that you are happy to do that. Of course, we will try to give you a role that takes advantage of your skills, but our events by their very nature are working with people!

Embraces a fast paced environment – events are busy places, plans change in an instant, quick thinking is needed. You will need to embrace the chaos!

Behave like a pro – whilst you are at our events or wearing our t-shirts you are #TeamGMMC, we therefore you expect you to behave in a way that does us proud, you are the front face for our brand.

Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House have collection tins hosted by a wide variety of businesses across Worthing, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our tins continue to play an important role in raising money and awareness for the hospices so that we can continue to provide specialist care.

These tins need to be collected, replaced, and returned to our fundraising offices or shops on a regular basis. With collections expected to be completed on a 6-8 week cycle.

We are looking for friendly, reliable people to help us with this important fundraising and community liaison role.

You will be the face of the Fundraising team in your locality, representing the hospices when collecting. This is a chance to involve yourself with the community by building a relationship with our collection tin hosts and keeping them up to date with any news from us.

You will working closely with the Police, Community Safety Partnerships, and local organisations, and help deliver campaigns and events that improve community safety. 

Through regular communication with regional and national staff, you will ensure your volunteers stay informed, connected, and supported.

You also help to recruit, support, and develop volunteers, creating an inclusive and motivated local team. 

Volunteer Team Leader / Deputy Team Leader applicants must live in the local area where you are applying.

This role requires a commitment of around three years to support continuity and effective delivery. Monthly time commitments vary and may include:

Uniform Manager

Challenge Adventure Group (“CAG” for short and the operating name of CAG Trust) is a voluntary youth organisation for Knowle, Dorridge and beyond aimed at boys aged 10 and above.

As our name suggests, we provide challenging, adventurous and fun activities and the D of E Award for young people in their leisure time. Taking part in fun experiential activities enables members to develop their physical and mental skills and capacities and reach their full potential of becoming positive, active and happy citizens.

Summary

CAG was formed in 2009 and became a charity, CAG Trust, in 2019.  We have a distinctive uniform for meeting nights and for when we’re out and about on trips.  We are proud of our branding and both members and leaders enjoy wearing our variety of rugby-style shirts, cosy fleeces, soft shell jackets and hats.

When we do really special trips, like our legendary ski trip, we design a uniform specifically for that event - it’s different each time and serves as a reminder of what an awesome time was had by all participants.  All our uniform is high quality, long lasting and is built to withstand all our challenging adventures whether it be indoor climbing or scaling Snowdon.

We are looking for a volunteer to monitor and organise uniform orders, log and chase payments and distribute to / from suppliers and to / from members.

Description

Responsibilities:

• Carry out an annual audit of the uniform stock and liaise with the Treasurer and Membership Secretary to ensure that there are enough supplies available for each age group / size.

• Keep the uniform stock tidy and in good order by ensuring everything is in the right place.

• Maintain an inventory of items and keep track of numbers sold and numbers required.

• Research and source suppliers selling good quality, hardwearing kit.

• Ensure that suppliers are providing good value for money.

• Monitor and organise uniform orders in good time to restock supplies.

• Liaise with the Membership Secretary to remain aware of new members and their uniform requirements.

• Log and chase payments in conjunction with the Treasurer.

• Communicate frequently with the Group Leader and CAG Management Committee to keep them up to date.

We are looking for a volunteer who ideally should have / be:

• Commitment to CAG and its ethos.

• The post holder must be able to provide a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

About the location

Where will the volunteer be working?

The volunteer can partially work from home and will also be required to attend some weekly Tuesday night club meetings at Bickenhill to check on and distribute the uniform stock.

Travel Limit

The candidate should also be available for face to face Committee and other meetings.

• You would need to be available to attend Committee meetings which normally take place in the evening.

• Very occasional weekends and evenings to attend events.

• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.
• Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.
• Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.
