Independent Visitor: Mentor a young person for 2 – 4 hours per month for at least 1 year.

An Independent Visitor is usually an adult volunteer who befriends a young person in care and develops a long-term friendship with them. This often involves helping young people develop new interests, skills and hobbies or going on outings such as going to the cinema, bowling or just walking in the park.
The aim is to provide support, confidence, and fun experiences outside of the young person’s daily environment. If you are looking for a rewarding role with an organisation that makes a difference in young people’s lives, we want to hear from you.

About the role:
•Visit a young person monthly and become a trusted adult friend to them.
•Build a trusting, consistent and positive relationship with the child.
•Provide a child with the opportunity to try new activities (e.g., cinema, bowling, museums, nature walks, or simply having a chat) and spend time with them away from their placement. 
•Provide visit reports and feedback after visits to help us monitor and improve the service.

Become an Independent Visitor to be matched one to one with a young person in care. You will meet once or twice a month to take them out to do fun activities together. This is an opportunity for our young people to develop a healthy relationship with a trusted adult, have fun and share their worries and feelings if they are ready to do so.

We'll provide full training, all your expenses and ongoing support from dedicated staff.

We are looking for fun, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers from all different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. You do not need any formal qualifications to become a volunteer, but it is helpful if you have some knowledge and practical experience of involvement with children and young people.

Children and young people who are looked after need an adult who has time to spend with them, take them on activities and be someone they can talk to and trust. You can fit your visits in around your own time and work commitments. We only ask that you can commit to a few hours once per month for a minimum of 2 years.

Trustee

Hours: Minimum commitment is attendance and preparation for four Board meetings each year (some of which will be in the daytime). Trustees are encouraged to also commit to joining one of the sub-committees or time-limited working groups.

Support teens through art, fashion, films, manga or whatever they’re into. You’ll build trust, boost confidence and offer a calm, supportive space during a big stage of their lives. This role will take place once a week or every two weeks!

We are seeking a diverse, proactive team of volunteers to support a 6-week summer programme (July 20 – Aug 28) across three refuge houses. Our mission is to rebuild parent-child bonds and bring joy back into childhood for families recovering from domestic abuse. You will be volunteering alongside the Children Family workers throughout the summer and will be invited to join an end of summer party.

What you will be doing

• Provide mentoring for teens with interests such as art, fashion, films, anime, manga and creativity.
• Offer a safe adult presence who listens, supports, and helps build confidence.
• Lead informal creative sessions based on the young person’s interests.

The skills you need

• Ability to easily connect with teens and build trusting relationships
• You’re happy to tailor sessions to each young person.

Responsibilities: Facilitators are responsible for designing creative and interactive workshops for our young people, and delivering these workshops with our young people. The workshop facilitator role is flexible and as part of your role, you may be involved in:

• Delivering and leading short workshops or courses, on behalf of GT Scholars (Online or offline)

• Designing engaging, interactive and educational workshops and short courses for young people and ensuring that the content is targeted to suit different abilities and capabilities

• Running your own bespoke workshops, eg. workshops in coding and technology

• Managing short activities and Q&A sessions during our workshops

• Working collaboratively with other event coordinators, volunteers, ambassadors, workshop facilitators and speakers at our events

Person specification: 

As workshop facilitator, you will need to:

• Have passion, knowledge and experience in coding, computing and technology

Availability: Workshops will run during the day on school holiday dates, on Saturdays or in the evening (5pm-8pm).

Rate of pay: This is a self-employed role. You must be aged 18 or above. Facilitator sessions range from 2 to 6 hours. The rate of pay will vary based on the budget of the funder.

Ruils Independent Living is a local charity that supports Disabled children and adults to live independent lives.

We are a small charity with a BIG vision and are looking for new Trustees to help us to remove the barriers Disabled people face. As a user-led charity, we are particularly looking for people with lived experience of Disability, people who have experience of the health & social care system and/or a parent/carer of a Disabled young person. We would also welcome someone with experience in HR and Law.

No prior trustee experience is required, we can provide training and mentoring. All you need is enthusiasm, a desire to learn and time to commit to the work of Ruils.

All trustees will receive a full Induction and training is available. Travel expenses are also covered.

We currently have hybrid meetings and 6 full board meetings per year with the expectation that each Trustee attends one subcommittee every other month.
