Climate Emergency UK is looking for someone to help us design, shoot and edit a short video about the work we do to use as part of a Crowdfunder campaign.

 About Climate Emergency UK

Climate Emergency UK (CE UK) is a small organisation that aims to inspire and organise action to respond to the climate and ecological emergency at the local level, working with Councils and residents. Across the UK, local authorities of all political persuasions have declared climate & ecological emergencies, have written action plans to deliver on their ambitions and some are taking the actual action necessary. There are also hundreds of community groups, taking action into their own hands by campaigning for the council to take real climate action. And this is where we come in. We exist to support those in the council climate movement by providing accessible information about best practice on council climate action and providing a network where local authorities, activists, NGOs, business and local communities can work together.

About the Scorecards and task

We create and publish the Council Climate Action Scorecards, the only complete assessment of all UK council climate action. This is a mammoth undertaking that takes 10 months across a detailed 3-stage marking process, involving volunteers, councils and staff. We’ve had our work referenced in Parliament, covered in The Guardian and The Times and know of at least 40% of UK councils currently using the Scorecards. 

We are publishing the third edition of the Action Scorecards in Spring 2027 and will be running a Crowdfunding campaign alongside this.

We want to create a short video (1-2min) to persuade people to donate and share our Crowdfunder to use in March 2027 onwards. 

 About the role

We are a small staff team of 4, without extensive video and communication experience. 

We are looking for someone to help us make a beautiful and persuasive video. We’d like someone who is passionate about climate action, has experience of working with small organisations with limited time and funding and is proactive in getting tasks done. 

We don’t require professional video equipment, content captured by smart phones is good to use.

The role is mainly remote with occasional travel, to Brighton or other places. CE UK staff work remotely in different parts of the UK with occasional in-person events which we may ask this person to attend. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses including travel to work events will be covered by Climate Emergency UK.

 About the role Main Tasks and Responsibilities

• Assist with script-writing for the Crowdfunder video

• Capture photos and short videos or source the necessary footage for the Crowdfunder video

• Assist in creating content for social media (e.g. reels, short clips)

• Work with the team to highlight impactful stories and experiences that we could use in other media
