Job description

Living with inherited sight loss? Your experience could change someone's life.
Help people feel less alone, build meaningful connections, and create a supportive community in Edinburgh.

At Retina UK, we know how powerful it can be to connect with someone who truly understands the challenges and realities of inherited sight loss. That's where you come in.

We're looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic volunteer to help bring people together through our local peer support group in Edinburgh. Using your own lived experience, you'll help create a welcoming space where people affected by inherited sight loss can connect, share experiences, exchange practical advice, and support one another.

As a Local Peer Support Group Facilitator, you'll:

  • Organise and facilitate local peer support meetings.
  • Welcome and support attendees.
  • Help foster a friendly, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere.
  • Coordinate meeting logistics and accessible venues.
  • Encourage discussion and connection between attendees.
  • Work alongside Retina UK staff to help meetings run smoothly.

The role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel to Edinburgh to facilitate meetings, typically at least twice a year. While applicants can live outside Edinburgh, being based in or near the city would be an advantage.

In return, you'll receive training, ongoing support, opportunities to develop your skills, and the chance to make a genuine difference to others living with inherited sight loss. Reasonable volunteer expenses will be reimbursed in line with Retina UK's expenses policy.

If you're passionate about supporting others and helping to build a stronger inherited sight loss community, we'd love to hear from you.
