Why Does Roots Academy Exist?

Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline. 

Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that removes barriers to access and provokes thought and action.

Role Summary.

The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for attracting, screening, and supporting the selection of qualified volunteers and team members who align with the organization’s mission and values. This role focuses on building strong recruitment pipelines through strategic outreach, managing initial candidate evaluations, and supporting the hiring process to ensure the organization continues to grow with passionate and capable people who truly believe in the mission and vision of Roots Academy

Key tasks

• Lead volunteer recruitment efforts by sourcing, attracting, and engaging qualified candidates aligned with organizational values and needs
• Identify and develop strategic outreach channels by researching and recommending platforms, communities, and locations to advertise open positions
• Conduct initial resume screenings and candidate evaluations to assess qualifications, experience, and role fit prior to advancing applicants to interview stages

• Interest or experience in recruitment, human resources, or talent acquisition
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage candidates professionally and respectfully
• Ability to assess basic qualifications and role alignment
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail
• Ability to work collaboratively with People & Culture leadership and team members
• Alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and community-focused approach

Role Summary

The People Operations Coordinator supports the day-to-day administration of the People & Culture function, ensuring smooth onboarding, accurate record-keeping, and a positive volunteer experience. This role plays a key part in maintaining organized people operations while also supporting volunteer engagement and appreciation initiatives.

Key tasks

• Coordinate and schedule onboarding sessions in collaboration with the People Lead
• Maintain accurate records by tracking volunteer training completion and participation
• Upload, organize, and manage personnel documentation within Roots’ Google Drive in accordance with confidentiality and data-handling standards
• Support volunteer engagement by planning and organizing logistics for volunteer appreciation events
• Assist with coordination, communication, and follow-up related to recognition initiatives

What we’re looking for

• Interest or experience in human resources, people operations, administration, or volunteer coordination
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality
• Alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and community-focused approach

The Commonwealth Education Trust (CET) provides professional development and training to teachers in low- and middle-income settings through our ed-Tech, award winning, low-cost platform, Teach2030. Easy-to-use and low data, teachers in under resourced settings receive contextualised, assessed, and certified foundational materials to underpin and advance their practice. 

As an Education Specialist, you'll need a background in education, with a high level of teaching proficiency and ability to engage with pedagogical content. You'll write, design and deliver engaging, interactive, and impactful resources and course materials that suit our teachers worldwide.

Your role will include: 

-  Writing courses and educational content for blogs

- Checking and editing current courses to improve educational content 

- Enhancing the educational content provided to our users worldwide

- Leading digital workshops and Q&As

- Contributing and participating in NGO contracts

What We're Looking For

-  Expertise with pedagogy in primary or secondary school

- A PGCE and QTS

- Enthusiasm for teaching, learning, training and education

- Technical proficiency or willingness to learn

- Initiative and willingness to contribute new ideas

- Record in designing high-quality, measurable learning solutions

-  Ability to present complex ideas clearly and creatively.

- An education background is essential.
