We’re seeking caring and compassionate people like you, who meet the following:

• Aged 21 or over
• A safe, secure, fully enclosed garden
• No children under 12
• Home for the majority of the day

Desirable:

• Live within 45 minutes of our sanctuary (NR9 4PJ) to attend vet appointments or adopter meet-and-greets
• No other animals in the home
• Experience in caring for dogs

Foster Carer Responsibilities:

• Daily Care: You will feed, walk, groom, train, and provide a loving environment for your foster dog under guidance from your foster coordinator.
• Appointments: You will bring your dog to the sanctuary for vet visits or adopter meet-and-greets. Urgent visits may be required if your foster becomes unwell.
• Stay Connected: You will keep in touch with your foster coordinator, providing updates, photos, and completing foster assessments.
• Follow Their Plan: Each dog has a tailored care program. By following it, you give your foster dog the best chance of success.

When you foster, you provide a peaceful and loving environment where a dog’s true personality can flourish, helping adopters discover who they truly are and find the family they have been waiting for. ❤️

This role is working therapeutically alongside a child/young person on one of our bereavement support days on either a Saturday or Sunday in a group setting.  Ideally you will have experience in working with children and have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and be able to support children and young people in distress and remain calm. 

You will be working therapeutically with your allocated child after receiving training.  You will have a group leader who will guide you through the structure of each day. There is also a Clinical Lead who will oversee and facilitate the programme.

You will also be expected to attend a debrief at the end of each day and also complete detailed documentation on the child/ young person you have been working with.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.  We pay 40pence per mile to cover your travel expenses. We will provide training (Safeguarding Children, Volunteer Induction Day and other specialist training days).

You will also have the opportunity to observe a weekend programme in action before you work with a child / young person. We will pay for your DBS check and provide you with a uniform.

**We will consider applicants who live further but are still willing to travel to the sanctuary for appointments.

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They support and fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease, and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

Bowel Cancer UK is entering a defining period for the charity. Their strategy places bold focus on early diagnosis, improved treatment and care, accelerating research, and ensuring that every voice—especially those less often heard—shapes their direction.

About the Trustee opportunities:

We are seeking three talented and committed Trustees with a particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Professional healthcare (not only medics) with experience in research and caring for bowel cancer patients
• Fundraising / income generation

The charity is also keen for the Board to reflect more fully the UK-wide nature of their role and work, noting particularly that they don’t currently have a Board Member from Wales, as well as groups disproportionately affected by bowel cancer. For example, research shows that:

• Women are more likely than men to be diagnosed with bowel cancer in an emergency setting. These are often at a later stage, when bowel cancer is harder to treat.
• Black people are more likely than white people to be diagnosed in an emergency setting, when bowel cancer is harder to treat.
• People from ethnic minority groups have a lower participation rate in the bowel cancer screening programme than white people.

MenWalkTalk has been developing at a pace and is now looking for new Trustees to help strengthen the Board to continue the growth.

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that MenWalkTalk achieves its core purpose. Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that Trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Duties:

• Support and provide advice on MenWalkTalk’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee MenWalkTalk’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve MenWalkTalk’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to MenWalkTalk’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
• Contribute to regular reviews of MenWalkTalk’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect MenWalkTalk’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
• Contribute to the broader promotion of MenWalkTalk’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

As a small charity, there will be times when the Trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. The ideal candidates will have 3 or more years previous governance experience in the UK charity sector.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a 3 year term of office.
• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment

• Attending 6-9 Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely each month.
• Attending 2 annual strategy / training days

Committee membership

Membership of at least one of the Trustee committees attending relevant meetings and reporting back to the Board.

Volunteers would be expected to attend regular network training evenings, on line training and specific face to face training for the role. Once trained for the role would be expected to assist at First Aid, PR and fundraising events.

Volunteer training opportunities meetings are held on a Tuesday evening from 19:30 -21:00, full training for the role will be provided and volunteers will be able to cover first aid events, and community engagement activities within the community.

What will you be doing?

·    Assisting with the donations of stock, by sorting and steaming and preparing for shop floor

·    Maintaining good stock levels and helping with stock rotation

·    Manning the till, including taking card payments and Gift Aid sign-up

·    Greeting customers in a friendly and approachable manner

·    Helping with visual merchandising  plus other tasks when needed
