Mencap Volunteer Visitor (Woodwork, Football and Walking - Coventry)

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

We are looking for a patient and caring volunteer to visit a man in his early 60s who lives in a supported living home in central Coventry. He enjoys going to watch the football, woodwork and crafts, gentle walks, and watching sports and films.

This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:

• Sitting and having a chat
• Checking in on their well- being
• Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink
• Take part on community activities like visiting a place of interest, go shopping etc.
• Enjoying a walk
• A craft activity at home

As a Mencap volunteer visitor you will be:

Trustees – Dementia Carers Count

Dementia Carers Count (DCC) is a national charity supporting and advocating for the millions of people across the UK who care for someone living with dementia.

Carers often feel invisible and overwhelmed, yet they provide essential, complex care every day. DCC exists to change that - offering practical and emotional support, amplifying carers’ voices, and campaigning for long‑term reform.As we shape the next phase of our strategic development, we are looking for three new trustees to bring expertise, strong governance and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of dementia carers.

What we are looking for:

• Finance & Investments Trustee
  We’re seeking a trustee with strong finance and investment expertise, including charity finance experience. You’ll help ensure robust financial governance, long‑term sustainability and effective risk management. Working with the Board and executive team, you’ll oversee budgets, monitor performance and support decisions that strengthen our financial position.
  Committee: Finance, Audit & Risk.
   
• Income Generation Trustee
  We’re looking for a trustee with expertise in income generation to support DCC’s growth and long‑term sustainability. You’ll bring strategic insight across areas such as fundraising, corporate partnerships and/or digital income, helping to diversify and strengthen our income streams. Working alongside the Board and executive team, you’ll contribute to shaping income growth strategy, offering challenge, guidance and insight to help maximise income and build organisational resilience.

• Strategic Impact & Growth Trustee
  We’re seeking a trustee who can help turn our strong foundation into greater visibility and long‑term growth. You’ll help us evidence our impact, communicate it confidently, and build partnerships and income that expand our reach. This role supports the Board to ensure our services remain high‑quality, sustainable and clearly understood by the public.
  Committee: Income Generation.

We would particularly welcome applicants who bring lived experience of dementia care, as this perspective strengthens our understanding of the challenges carers face and helps shape meaningful, relevant strategy.

Time commitment:

Around 12 days per year, including:

• Quarterly Board meetings (hybrid)

• Committee meetings (online)

• Strategy day

• Occasional involvement in interviews, events or Task & Finish groups
 

Terms

This is an unremunerated voluntary role.

All reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed.

Volunteer Opportunity: Squirrels Section Volunteer

Location: URC Baker Street, Alvaston
When: Mondays, 1 hour per week, 4.30pm-5.30pm

Do you have an hour to spare on a Monday and a willingness to make a big difference to young children? We’re looking for friendly volunteers to join our Squirrels team and help support our weekly sessions.

About Squirrels

Squirrels is the youngest section of Scouts, designed for children aged 4–6. Sessions are fun, active, and varied… from crafts and games to simple challenges that build confidence, teamwork, and curiosity about the world.

The Role

As a Squirrels Volunteer, you’ll support the session leaders during our weekly one hour meetings. Typical tasks include:

• Helping small groups of children take part in activities
• Offering encouragement and gentle guidance
• Supporting games, crafts, and simple challenges
• Helping create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment

You won’t be expected to plan sessions or lead activities, unless you’d like to! This role is all about support and teamwork.

Overseas Support Volunteer

Hospices of Hope is the only UK charity dedicated to the development of hospice care services throughout South and East Europe. We are dedicated to improving the lives of terminally ill patients in Romania and surrounding countries by supporting local hospice partners. We believe that everyone deserves the best possible care at the end of their life. However, in developing countries like Romania, many patients still die in pain without being offered any physical, spiritual, or emotional comfort.

We are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers with a variety of skills and interests to join us on our Summer Trips to Romania in 2026, which provide a much-needed break for children. There are two different groups of children that enjoy the trips. Some are affected by rare or life-limiting illnesses, others have experienced trauma through the death of a close relative. The other group of children who attend are relatives of patients in our care.

The children who benefit from our trips are often completely neglected by health care and social service systems. Our Summer Trips are an opportunity for them to relax, have fun, share stories, and find comfort in each other.

The trip includes airfares from London, transfers to and from the airport in Romania, your disclosure and barring service check, training, and accommodation. If you opt for the first trip, only breakfast and lunch are provided on the days you are at the hospice. You will need to pay for evening and weekend meals. If you opt for the second trip, whilst at the camp, all meals are provided. Again, you will need to pay for weekend meals.

The hours you attend will differ depending on which trip you attend; however, your role as a volunteer will involve you engaging with the children doing enjoyable activities, crafts, games, and much more. It is a chance for them to enjoy being children and just have some fun.

The Stroke Association - Fundraising Project Volunteer

Our Regional Fundraising Team work closely with individuals, groups, and organisations who are raising money for us or have the potential to raise funds. This can be through our campaigns, active challenges, partnerships or through their own ideas. Fundraising is important to our charity as our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the generosity of supporters. In this role you will help with projects that will help us find new fundraising supporters, help with promoting our campaigns or be involved with ensuring our supporters have a fantastic experience

What the role involves:

As a fundraising project volunteer, there are a wide range of activities that you might be involved with. When you enquire about volunteering, we will find out about your interests and skills to find the right projects for you to support us with. Tasks may vary throughout the year. They include:

• Researching organisations and community groups that may be able to support the charity financially.
• Promoting our fundraising campaigns in communities to encourage them to get involved.
• Helping ensure our supporters have a great experience by thanking them, wishing them good luck or sharing charity updates. This could be through cards, emails or phone calls.
• General administrative tasks on word or excel.
• Support with our events in person if they are near to you. This could involve meeting fundraisers, cheering along our runners or talking about the charity.

Who the role might suit:

• To be an effective fundraising project volunteer you will need a methodical approach to work and be able to follow agreed systems and processes.
• Our fundraising project volunteers need to be thorough with a good eye for detail, and able to use office equipment and relevant computer software.
• Some of the tasks involved will need you to be someone who can communicate effectively in writing, over the phone and in person.
• You will have ongoing support from our staff but will spend much of your time working on your own so you will need to be someone who is comfortable working without direct supervision.

What the role can offer you personally:

• Being a fundraising project volunteer means you will gain practical experience of working in a busy team, supporting our ongoing work and on a variety of projects that make a real difference to people’s lives. 
• The role provides an opportunity to learn new keyboard and IT skills and use various software and database packages.
• Fundraising project volunteers also find it helps them develop new skills with a well-respected charity which can improve their CV and employability.
• You would be able to see how your support has made an impact by seeing the amount of money raised or hearing feedback from our supporters.

Training for this role:

We provide all of our volunteers with training, so they feel confident in the role and give the best possible support to stroke survivors.

Essential training for the role will include some modules on our learn system, such as GDPR, safeguarding and information security. Other training may be required depending on the tasks you complete. We will confirm this as part of your induction.

We also offer a range of optional training courses to support you in your role and to support your knowledge of the Stroke Association.

We also offer ongoing support and expenses where appropriate.

Where and when you would volunteer:

The role is a remote volunteering role that you will complete from home at a time that suits you. There may be times when we invite you along to virtual meetings, but times would be discussed.

A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, an Access NI check or membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is not required for this role.

Our vision is for there to be fewer strokes, and for people affected by stroke to get the help they need to live the best life they can.

Our core purpose is to be the trusted voice of stroke survivors and their families. We want to drive better outcomes in stroke prevention, treatment and lifelong support for everyone affected by stroke.
