Treasurer Volunteer Roles

Could you look after the finances for the local SSAFA service in your area? You don’t need a military background, just some basic I.T and finance skills. If so, this could be the role for you!

What is a Divisional Treasurer?

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas. These are divided into small local areas that we call divisions. Each one has a treasurer to look after the accounts and funds in that division. This is a key role involving financial administration.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

Our branches support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

One of the key ways we help clients is by tapping into various sources of funding on their behalf. Monitoring and reconciling this flow of funding in and out of SSAFA accounts is important to ensure clients receive the support when needed and we can account for all charitable funds in our care.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

As part of your local branch, you might have access to an office, but many volunteers are based at home. This flexible role involves using our on-line financial management system and on-line bank accounts and so can be done when and where suits you best.

What would you be doing?

• Maintaining and reconciling local bank accounts and recording transactions
• Ensuring funds are available to caseworkers, to provide immediate grants where appropriate.
• Making and recording all authorised payments
• Preparing year end accounts
• Working with the divisional secretary, advise on a local fundraising plan to cover divisional running costs.
• Identifying and returning any surplus monies from grants as appropriate
• Providing reports to the local SSAFA branch and to SSAFA’s Central Office
• Maintaining accurate records on our on-line finance management system
• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer or fundraiser.
• Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)

The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

What training and support would you receive?

• Support from the divisional secretary and the branch treasurer.
• Access to a range of e-learning courses
• Support from the Finance Team and Volunteer Experience Team based at our central office.
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
• Volunteers will be covered by SSAFAs Public Liability Insurance whilst carrying out the role.

What are we looking for?

• Friendly and approachable people with some experience of financial administration
• Good written and spoken English.
• Ability to be respectful and non-judgemental with volunteers, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues,
• Ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address,
• Willingness to use our on-line banking and on-line finance management system (this is covered in training)
• Reliable attitude: contact volunteers promptly, keep appointments etc.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely.
• Access to public transport or a car to travel to meetings etc.

The Langham Arts Trust is an extraordinary charity, combining a passion for creative excellence with a gospel mission: to make Jesus’ name known and glorified through music and the arts.

TRUSTEE DIRECTOR TREASURER - ANTHONY TOBY HOMES TRUST (ATHT)

The ATHT provides a unique package of care for people with learning disabilities to live together in a group home, enabling them to enjoy normal and fulfilled lives as part of the local community, experiencing the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.  As a member of the Trustee Board the Trustee Director Treasurer has particular responsibility for overseeing the accounting function of  ATHT.

The Gravesend RNLI fundraising team have a vacancy for a volunteer treasurer. The team work closely with the lifeboat crew and water safety team at Gravesend lifeboat station to hold a rage of events, develop partnerships and drive engagement locally. The treasurer is a key member of the team, ensurring financial compliance and providing a brief report on income at fundraising meetings (currently held every 6 weeks in Gravesend)

We are looking for someone who is financially literate with basic IT skills and is happy to undertake training with our finance team on internal processes and using Salesforce, our accounting system. Full training and ongoing support is available and an accounting or book-keeping background is not necessary. The team are a friendly, welcoming group witht he ambition to do more year on year and whilst the time commitment currently is probably around 2-5 hours per month ths may grow to be closer to 6-8 hours a month in time.

WK Foundation cares deeply about providing opportunities for young adults from low income contexts through practical skills & socio-emotional training and job opportunities. WKF is a recently registered charity in South London, seeking to add trustees to their board to add skills & bring diverse voices that will best represernt our young adults. Our work is dedicated to reconnecting low income urban communities with sustainable food pathways, with the aim of breaking the cycles of poverty that are perpetuated by dysfunctional food systems. The board are particularly interested in candidates who identify as Black Caribbean or have mixed racial backgrounds, such as mixed race Black Caribbean/White or Pakistani/White British.

Our board is female led (Chair & CEO are female), and consists of a clinical phschologist, social entrepreneur, trained counsellor & HR practicioner, and regenerative food specialist. We are currently re-developing our holistic hospitality training programme called Nourish, for an October 2025 launch. Nourish provides hands on skills training, work experience and employment opportunities, as well as employment progression and support for young adults from low income context facing disadvantages. We work with young adults for up to 12 months.

Our work is underpinned by our regenerative food practises and is run in accordance with our Christian faith values & principles.

• To ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• To help promote the organisation to a wide audience of potential funders and beneficiaries and community stakeholders.
• To ensure the food bank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding & GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• To act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.

Tax Justice UK is a campaigning and advocacy organisation. It wants to ensure that everyone in the UK benefits from a fair and effective tax system. It wants to see higher taxes to support quality public services and ensure the redistribution of wealth.

Tax Justice UK is looking for people who are passionate about making change and who can offer the support it needs to be an effective campaigning and advocacy organisation. It has space for three people to join the board, one as its first Treasurer.

South West Advocacy Network (SWAN) want to strengthen their Board of Trustees with up to 4 new Trustee appointments, including a Treasurer. These are voluntary positions and provide opportunity to help SWAN to develop its strategic direction and sustain innovative services to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, primarily, but not solely, in counties across the South of England.

We work with people from all walks of life and have already supported thousands of the most disadvantaged people to have their voice heard and their choices respected by those that are making decisions about their future.

We are looking for dynamic and empathetic people to become trustees within our organisation, people who have the passion and drive to support SWAN and help us to ensure that the voices around our Board table reflect and understand the communities we work in.
