Role Overview

As our Fundraising Director (volunteer), you will play a pivotal role in securing the resources that drive our mission forward. Success in this position means identifying and pursuing the right funding opportunities and coordinating our fundraising team to achieve clear goals. Through this role, you will gain significant experience of the entire fundraising process for both nonprofits and mission-driven entities, as well as learn about sustainable finance and how technology can positively contribute to it.

Commitment

• This role is currently volunteer-based.
• We are seeking a commitment of 5–8 hours per week.
• We are looking for someone to join us long term, but are open to shorter-term applicants.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess new funding opportunities for suitability using our CRM and training resources.
• Lead our fundraising strategy, setting goals for the team and adjusting course where needed.
• Manage our fundraising volunteers working across multiple workstreams and approaches.
• Meet individually with fundraising volunteers to discuss opportunities and unblock issues.

About the Degrees Initiative

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade, and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim. 

The charity was founded in 2021, now has around 20 staff members and is growing. We seek a volunteer trustee with significant financial experience including an accounting qualification to join an existing five-person board to help guide a growing initiative that is changing the field of SRM.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to apply their financial expertise in a high-profile governance role, shaping strategy and supporting a mission that empowers Global South researchers to lead in one of the world’s most important climate debates. 

Role 

The volunteer trustee will complement and further strengthen an existing five-person volunteer trustee board including the Chair & Treasurer. The role will entail strategic leadership, governance, and fiduciary responsibilities. Alongside the Treasurer they will predominantly be advising the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the rest of the senior management team (the Chief Executive Officer and Chief of Staff) to ensure the robust financial health of the charity. This will include: 

• Maintaining an overview of the charity’s financial affairs by overseeing the annual financial planning and budgets proposed by the senior management team 

• Monitoring and evaluating financial progress against budgets and forecasts from staff reporting at quarterly board meetings, acting a voice of financial expertise during board discussions 

• Approving the audited annual accounts and financial statements presented by the senior management team alongside the rest of the board 

• Strategic input by reviewing risk assessments alongside financial implications and advising on the organisation of financial resources and reserves to support the long-term goals of the charity 

• Confirming transparency and accountability in financial operations, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place in addition to compliance with legal and regulatory requirements 

• Advising on how the charity can most effectively conduct its international work, especially providing grants to organisations in the Global South 

• Confirming that the charity has an appropriate investment policy, and that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity

• Sitting on any board sub-committees as required 

What we do

Our initiative leverages technology to connect global experts, researchers and volunteers with frontline African communities to drive meaningful change. Hide Cleaner Volunteer

About The Role

At the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust we are involved in creating and conserving wetlands and the species who live in them.  At Washington Wetland Centre we develop and maintain visitor areas which provide enjoyable areas which enhance the visitor experience. 

What you will be doing:

• Cleaning and tidying of hides to include litter picking, sweeping out, window cleaning and shelf cleaning
• Maintaining approaches to hides

Volunteering as Hide Cleaner at WWT Washington is a great opportunity to get to see some of our best wildlife from the hides while you work, interact with a range people, including staff and visitors, and make a valuable difference to the upkeep and presentation of our reserve.

Our partner organization is a registered non-governmental organization operating in mainland Tanzania. Its vision is to build a community that upholds patriotism, peace, cooperation, equality, development, and awareness of climate change.

The organization’s mission is to promote public understanding of economic, social, cultural, and political issues through free platforms such as debates, mass media, online forums, blogs, conferences, and public dialogues with government officials.

Its main objectives include:

• Raising awareness about climate change, environmental conservation, peace, gender equality, and the negative effects of harmful traditional beliefs.

• Promoting understanding of the impacts of crime, terrorism, corruption, and inequality, while fostering leadership, unity, cooperation, and innovation.

• Encouraging knowledge of Tanzanian culture, the Swahili language, and the importance of strong governance across sectors.

• Empowering communities through the formation of peace, environmental, economic, social, cultural, and academic clubs in both rural and urban areas.

2. Purpose of the Assignment

Our partner organization seeks to engage volunteers to provide various forms of community service, including:
a) Teaching in primary and secondary schools.
b) Promoting environmental conservation skills.
c) Supporting healthcare for elders, children, and expectant mothers.
d) Assisting in orphanage care at children’s centers.

3. Scope of Work / Responsibilities

Volunteers will be responsible for the following tasks:
a) Collaborating with local teachers during classroom sessions.
b) Conducting training for target groups.
c) Supporting the care of elders, orphans, pregnant women, and school children.
d) Teaching pupils in primary schools (ages 5–12).
e) Teaching students in secondary schools (ages 12–16).
f) Assisting in workshops and community events.

i) Assisting with disease diagnosis and record-keeping.

By the end of their assignment, volunteers are expected to deliver:

Volunteers will be placed primarily in Arusha Region (Northern Tanzania) and Dodoma Region (Central Tanzania).

Eligible volunteers may include individuals with the following qualifications and skills:
a) Qualified teachers in subjects such as Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Civics, English, History, Chemistry, and Agriculture (secondary level).
b) Qualified teachers in Science, Mathematics, Civic and Moral Education, and English (primary level).
c) Individuals with computer skills (MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, programming, app design, and graphics).
d) Medical professionals (doctors, nurses, or health workers) experienced in diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis, cancer, asthma, tuberculosis, malaria, and eye diseases.
e) Environmentalists and conservation specialists.
f) Social workers and community mobilizers.
g) Students or graduates from colleges and universities in related fields.
h) Experienced professionals willing to volunteer.
i) Volunteers aged 16 to 70 years.
j) Required documentation includes a valid passport, visa, health insurance, and a student or professional ID.
k) Volunteers are encouraged (but not required) to contribute personal teaching materials or medical tools where possible.
l) Food and transport costs are the responsibility of the volunteer unless otherwise agreed.

Person Specification: 

Must be reasonably physically fit to carry out tasks, including lifting and loading.

Have a good command of English in order to understand and follow instructions and health and safety rules. 

Have basic literacy and numeracy skills to record quantities and types of food donated.

Able to work in a manner that respects Health and Safety standards.

Be happy to complete tasks independently according to instruction.

Be positive, friendly and enthusiastic about tackling food waste and food poverty.

Must be reliable and able to commit to an agreed session/day.

About Filling Good

Filling Good is a community-led sustainable retail community benefit society on a mission to reduce waste, promote ethical consumption, and support local, eco-conscious producers. Based in Maidenhead, we are passionate about empowering our members and customers to live more sustainably. As a co-operative, we are owned and governed by our members and guided by values of fairness, transparency, and social impact.

The Role

We are seeking a new Chair of the Board to provide strategic leadership, ensure good governance, and support the long-term sustainability and growth of Filling Good. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead a purpose-driven organisation making real environmental and social change at the local level.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Guide the Board in setting and reviewing strategic goals.

• Lead an annual strategy workshop (e.g. SWOT analysis, SMART goal setting).

• Ensure consistent progress tracking against the co-operative’s strategic plan.

Governance Oversight

• Chair Board meetings with clear agendas and effective timekeeping.

• Ensure compliance with legal, food safety, and risk management requirements.

• Support transparent communication with members and foster a shared understanding of priorities.

 Operational Support

• Act as a point of contact and line management for senior staff (e.g.Senior Retail Manager).

• Hold annual informal reviews with key volunteers to set goals and offer support.

• Monitor key performance indicators, financial updates, and operational risks.

Board & Team Development

• Facilitate reviews for individual directors and the Board as a whole.

• Support the ongoing learning and development of Board members.

• Represent Filling Good at events and within the wider co-operative and sustainability sectors.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

• Brings leadership experience and a collaborative, facilitative approach

• Understands or is keen to learn about co-operative governance

• Is passionate about sustainability, social impact, and ethical retail

• Can commit time and energy to support a growing, purpose-led organisation

• Is diplomatic, organised, and a great communicator

Experience in strategy, governance, HR, or ethical business is desirable but not essential.

This is a hybrid role and you will need to attend in person every now and again, so we are looking for someone local to our area in N. London. 

We are looking for someone who has worked in a small, busy office for at least 3 years, preferably at a senior level.

What will you be doing?

• Helping the founder and lead volunteer Adam, the trustees, and the main project leads

• Picking up non-time critical, general tasks from meetings or on-going workstreams

• Fielding external queries to appropriate people

• Overseeing the whole operation with a view to identifying weak spots or neglected areas

• Providing support for a crowdfunder scheduled for February 2026

FareShare Greater Manchester is looking for safe, confident drivers to join our busy, friendly delivery team. 

We re-distribute tonnes of surplus food a month to charities and community initiatives across Greater Manchester. This is an achievement of which we’re proud, and want to expand and is why we need your driving and delivery skills to support our growing operation, especially in these current times of increased need.

Key responsibilities

Driving a van to deliver surplus food orders to the premises of the various Community Food Members we support. 
Loading and unloading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.

As a Delivery Driver at FareShare, you will be driving a temperature-controlled 3.5 tonnes Mercedes Sprinter van; working closely with a Driver’s Assistant to re-distribute food orders to the premises of a wide variety of Community Food Members. You will be involved with loading the vehicle and carrying out a range of tasks, from basic vehicle checks to delivery administration.

The required skills and attributes are as follows. You must:

Be aged 25 or over, with a clean driver's licence (or a maximum of 3 points).
(Experience of driving a van is desirable though not essential).

Be reliable and be able to commit to pre-agreed volunteer shifts.

Be physically fit to take on moving and handling of food orders.

Possess the ability to follow procedures and instructions.

Have good verbal communication skills.

Have a high respect for Health & Safety standards and procedures.

Have an interest in the work of FareShare Greater Manchester and our values.

Our operating hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. 

Drivers' 4 hour shifts begin at 8:30am.

Volunteering in the shop

Mary's Living & Giving for Save the Children is unique - a vibrant result of the generous gifts of local individuals and companies being turned around by the skills and passions of volunteer teams, to create a destination retail experience. We hold a prime position on the picturesque Church Street and from our little pink shop we raise lifesaving funds for Save The Children’s work both in the U.K. and abroad. As well as raising awareness on sustainable fashion and fashion climate activism, we’re a hub of excitement and passion!

Our Stoke Newington Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

What happens next?

After you’ve filled in an application, we will invite you for an informal trial shift. It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).
