The Ramblers are Britain's biggest and most vibrant walking community. The Area Secretary is a key member of the Sussex leadership team, working with the Chair to ensure the team runs smoothly including managing meeting logistics and communicating with Groups in the Area.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Working with the Area Chair to arrange quarterly leadership team meetings, including producing agendas and booking the venue
- Organising the Area AGM, and producing the Annual Report
- Making sure that accurate records of decisions at meetings are produced and circulated on a timely basis
- Keeping in touch with Ramblers' Central Office, sharing news, including key organisational policies, with the Area leadership team and Groups
- As a member of the leadership team, contributing to decision-making on a wide range of issues in relation to activities across Sussex Area of the Ramblers

The ideal candidate is likely to have a passion for walking and the outdoors and a familiarity with the activities of the Ramblers and of the Sussex Area. The position is suitable for someone who is highly reliable, capable of taking initiative and with a track record of getting things done. You will need to be well-organised, good at building relationships with other members of the leadership team including the Chair, have fluent writing skills and be confident in producing agendas and decision records. You should be computer-literate and preferably have experience of using audio-visual meeting support equipment and desktop publishing software.

The purpose of the role is to act as the principal financial officer for the Area, ensuring that all Area income and expenditure is properly managed and accounted for and is compliant with Ramblers’ policies and procedures.
The Treasurer is a key member of the Area leadership teams and contributes to decision-making across a wide range of issues relating to the Sussex Area of the Ramblers, the UK's largest and most vibrant walking community.
The main activities in the role are:
• Managing the Area Bank Account and processing expenses claims, obtaining the necessary authorisations
• Maintaining records of all transactions and producing accounts using the Ramblers’ spreadsheet-based system (Excel 97)
• Preparing Income and Expenditure Statements and Treasurer’s Reports for the Quarterly Area Executive Committee and Council Meetings and attending those meetings
• Leading the production and submission to Ramblers’ Central Office of the Area Budget and Annual Return, networking across the Group Treasurers to obtain the respective Group Budgets and Returns and resolve any issues
• Producing the Area Annual Financial Report and Accounts for approval at the AGM.

Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. It is not easily defined but we hope the charity objects below will help put context to what we want to achieve, what we can say is that below are the issues we are trying to address, how we do this will change as quickly as society does, but the issues we want to tackle are these:

Crossness Pumping Station (overseen by the Crossness Engines Trust) is a unique and valuable museum of UK and world reknown telling the history of how the ambitious management of sewage transformed London as a city of growth and innovation in the 1860s and helped eradicate cholera. Preserved and restored by a group of enthusiasts since 1987, we are now entering a second phase of major restoration and we need visionary trustees who can help us achieve it.
This role is one of three we have created for experts in their field to help us implement a major programme over the next 5-10 years. It really is your chance to be part of our history!
As well as the usual trustee roles (outlined in the role description attached) the specific skills needed for this role include:
Role Objectives
- Acting as lead expert on the Board in relation to fundraising (eg grant funding, legacy funding, onsite donations, but not commercial trading/visitor charges).
- Advising on good practice and regulatory and policy issues in charity fundraising.
- Identifying future fundraising prospects and working with volunteers to achieve these.
Responsibilities
- Work with a volunteer lead/team on identifying future funding sources from grant-making bodies.
- Develop a fundraising strategy with volunteers.
- Develop corporate fundraising targets with other trustees.
- Investigate legacy fundraising and other visitor/member/donor opportunities.
Candidate requirements
Essential
- Proven success in heritage or similar charity fundraising.
- Good knowledge of the standards required by the Institute of Fundraising.
- Ability to develop fundraising skills in volunteers.
- Good knowledge of relevant stakeholders in the fundraising community.
- Excellent communication skills including with staff and volunteers as well as fellow trustees.
- An understanding of the importance of collaboration and problem-solving.
- Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office 365.
- Commitment to attend board meetings regularly and volunteer for other sub-committees as appropriate.
- Able to devote around 2-3 hours per week on preparing for meetings.

About the role

While experience in special education is important, we are primarily seeking someone with a broad education expertise who understands the wider education system. Experience in commissioning or setting up new special academies or MATs would be particularly valuable. We are looking for someone with an understanding and experience of safeguarding, particularly for children with SEND, alongside their broader education expertise.
We are looking for a Trustee who aligns with our mission and is genuinely excited by our work with children with brain injury and neurodisability. You’ll be joining a Board that’s been significantly
refreshed over the past two years. We’re particularly committed to increasing diversity on our Board and would be especially pleased to hear from candidates with lived experience of brain injury, neurodisability, disability or neurodiversity, those from diverse ethnic backgrounds, lower socio-economic backgrounds, or who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ communities.
- Time Commitment
Our board typically meets 6 times a year, including our annual strategy away day, and committees typically meet 4-6 times annually. Outside of the formal meeting schedule, it is likely that additional time will be needed for relationship building and ad hoc discussions with the executive team and fellow board members.
Board meetings take place in person at our Tadworth site in Surrey, and we have a strong preference for in-person attendance to maximise engagement and relationship building, though we maintain some flexibility for online participation in certain circumstances. The Education Committee meets throughout the year, usually in person.

- Time commitment and practicalities
Time commitment: the equivalent of circa 1 day per month
Trustees serve a three-year term and can be re-elected. The Board meets five times annually, complemented by two strategy days typically held in or around London. Most trustees sit on one committee, which usually meets quarterly.
The role requires approximately the equivalent of circa a day a month, including preparation for meetings, reading time, and ad hoc conversations with board members and the executive team, with a willingness to travel throughout the UK from time to time.

Role Requirements
As an Audio Editor, you will:
- Edit and enhance raw audio recordings for clarity and quality.
- Mix and master audio tracks to produce professional results.
- Remove background noise, balance audio levels, and add sound effects as needed.
- Collaborate with the podcast team to align audio with the intended narrative.
- Ensure timely delivery of polished audio for podcast episodes and other projects.

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.
You’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time.
