Trustee with organisation and planning, event management or marketing skills to join the board of DUO, a small charity which was set up to raise funds to enhance the delivery of care to patients and former patients of the Urology Department at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford and other Oxfordshire hospitals. They have, over the years, been very successful in organising fund-raising events and in collecting donations to provide very necessary medical equipment and amenities for the main ward and out-patients departments and supporting nurse education, all to improve patient care for the thousands of in-patients and out-patients who are treated by the Urology Departments each year.
The Role: we are looking for trustees to work with our existing trustees of DUO, all volunteers, some of whom wish to move aside over the next few years as they are “getting on” in age.
You do not need a background in hospitals or in medicine. You will be expected to bring your own experience to the board and prepare for, attend and actively participate in trustee meetings and support the achievement of DUO’s charitable objectives and help organise fund-raising activities. These have included what are now well-established quiz evenings and sponsored walks etc. but we are open to new ideas for raising funds. Board meetings are held every few months, either at the Churchill Hospital or on Zoom.
As a trustee you will also assist in ensuring that DUO complies with relevant laws and practice and assist in the management of the charity’s resources, ensuring accountability.
What we are looking for: we welcome all applicants, young or old, who can bring enthusiasm and commitment to the role. You do not need previous governance experience as the existing trustees will pass on the skills required. You will need to live in Oxfordshire.
What difference will you make: the trustee will assist in the promotion of the charity’s objectives and benefit Urology Dept. in-patients and out-patients and the wider community. You will be able to help shape the way we go about meeting our objectives and how they are delivered to benefit individuals and the community.
