Bright Futures UK works with young people who have been forced to take time out from education due to chronic illness. We provide programmes to help stimulate learning in addition to having a social aspect that offers respite to the isolation these young people face due to their unfortunate circumstances.

• Provide educational support and a fun, safe space for young people.
• Engage with young people in a positive and friendly way, helping them overcome their experiences and not feel defined by their illness.
• Interact with a young person on a one-to-one basis, leading conversations or trying new hobbies together (e.g., book club, video games, music, crafts).

Term 

This is a three-year term, with the possibility of re-election for a further three-year term. Internal applicants must be eligible to complete the initial three-year term. 

Time commitment 

Trustees are asked to commit to four Board meetings a year (3 hours), and an away day. The Chair would be expected to commit more time (estimated at around 1-2 days a month) to cover extra duties such as meetings with the CEO and trustees and planning and preparing for the Board meetings.

Essential skills:

Would you like to help build a positive relationship, providing holistic support, and potentially advocating for them?

If so then Bolton Lads and Girls Club want to hear from you! As a Befriender, your role is to provide a young person in the care system an organised friendship with boundaries. Ensuring that they feel heard, and that they have a constant in their life. You can take the young person out for activities to build their trust and ultimately ensure that they have support from someone separate of both the local authority and the care system, an Independent Visitor. Typically the minimum length of time we would expect a volunteer to be in the role is 18 months, however the nature of the role means it could vary. Meetups are normally every 2 to 3 weeks, at a time that is convenient for both people.

Whilst no experience is required as training is provided, previous experience with children/young people can be advantageous.

There is a budget available for activities, and mileage expenses are covered.

1625 Independent People (1625ip) has been working with young people in the South West for over 40 years. They are award winning experts in providing services for young homeless people, care leavers, those at risk and young people who offend. Despite multiple and complex needs, over 80% of the young people they support go on to succeed.

They provide much more than just a safe home for young people. They give them a network of people they can trust and a range of specialist support in areas, for example mental health and jobs coaching.  A major part of their work is supporting young people into Education, Employment and Training.  They offer young people opportunities they’ve never had, giving them a chance to believe in themselves, take healthy risks and to play a positive part in their communities. 

2024 onwards is an unbelievably exciting time for 1625ip, as, alongside their excellent day to day work, they have some major projects in their early stages including the renovation of their grade 2 listed HQ Kingsley Hall on old Market with a cafe and new training spaces.

 · One Fundraising Expert – with significant high-level experience in charity fundraising.

· One expert in any field but we are particularly interested in those with experience of one or more of the following: commercial, community or social enterprises; senior roles in housing management or social care.

 As a Board Member, you will use your skills, knowledge and experience to work collaboratively with the organisation’s Executive team to achieve the highest standards of operational performance throughout 1625ip.

You will be supported on your Board Member journey by a full induction programme and the opportunity to have a Board Buddy to help settle into your new role.

There are 5 evening Board meetings a year, 3-4 additional committee meetings (most in the evenings), an away day and several events with young people who use our services. The young people events are optional but are very informative and fun.

Volunteer Classroom Assistant (Online) – English, Maths, Science

Purpose of role: 

Support the Nova Family Programme tutors in facilitating online home school sessions.

Role Description: 

This role will be to act as a teaching assistant to tutors delivering online English, maths and science classes (for young people at Key Stage 2 and 3). With the disruption of Covid-19, many families have been thrown into the unknown world of home schooling – made even more challenging when your own education isn’t up to scratch or English is your second language. We are delivering a free programme of online home school support to those who have been most negatively impacted by being out of school. Now that Schools have reopened, we will be continuing these sessions to ensure that learners do not fall behind as Schools focus on catching up on lost learning. The aim is to support children who may be falling behind with their studies and mitigating as far as possible the widening attainment gap. 

You will: 

• Enjoy working in a team

• Work one-on-one or with breakout groups of learners who need additional help 

• Facilitate the zoom classroom as required
