We are looking for a friendly face to help staff the Yeldall Manor reception desk for a few hours each week.
The role entails being the first point of contact for telephone callers, visitors and residents, welcoming and redirecting their queries/calls as appropriate. You will be comfortable using a computer in order to send emails, access the diary and assist with basic admin tasks, although there may also be times with less to do.
The role includes a lot of client contact, so you will have daily contact with those men whom you are helping. They inspire and motivate us just as much as we seek to encourage and support them. As part of this, we ask that all our staff and volunteers help support the residents by interacting with them and encouraging them in their recovery and spiritual growth, and so ask that you will have a committed Christian faith yourself.
Yeldall Manor is set in the Berkshire countryside, about three miles from Twyford station. Lunch is provided with fellow staff and resident.
Yeldall wants all those affected by addiction to heal, transform and thrive.

Founded in 1991, Respond is a national charity that seeks to transform the lives of people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced trauma. We are committed to bringing about positive change for our clients and their families, enabling them to lead richer and more resilient lives.
Respond's services for children, young people and adults are:

Respond supports charities that campaign for equality and inclusion with the aim to prevent abuse and equip individuals and their families to come to terms with their experiences and live more positive lives.
Our specialist training, supervision, reflective practice and consultancy equips agencies and health / social care providers to deliver trauma-informed services. This includes responding to and providing consultancy and training for significant events such as institutional abuse.
Our income base is diverse with trust funds and grants continuing to be a vital part of maintaining core services Respond offers, alongside donations from trusts and foundations. We also continue to have larger ongoing or spot contracts for our work for NHS commissioners and local authorities.
It is a good opportunity to join Respond's Board at this time, following our restructure and as we move towards the last year of our current strategy for 2022-25. Following a challenging period due to changing funding landscape and closure of some services, we will be focused on consolidation and improving impact measurement to secure long-term financial sustainability.
The role of the Board of Trustees
The Trustees (or 'Board members') are trustees of the charity and directors of the limited company. They are responsible for the governance, setting the strategic direction and monitoring the implementation of the strategy. The Board ensures that the charity acts in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
The Board has responsibility for:

ensuring the charity acts in accordance with its charitable purpose and is providing public benefit and meets its legal obligations;

making decisions in the best interests of the charity;

developing the multi-year strategy;
-
monitoring the management of the finances and resources of the organisation (operations, budget, property, workforce and tenders);

monitoring performance, quality and impact;

appointing and appraising the CEO.
Who we’re looking for
Following a recent skills audit within the current Board, the Board is seeking trustees with the following skills or experiences;

Finance - This person will have a financial qualification and will enable the Board to ensure the sound financial health of the charity. The person will collaborate with the Finance Director to ensure that the organisation has systems that meet sector best practice and ensures financial accountability. This trustee will be the Treasurer and chair the Finance Committee.

Human Resources (HR) - This person will have experience in working in HR roles, preferably in the voluntary sector. This person will help review and strengthen Respond’s HR policies, set up and lead the people committee and guide the Leadership team in dealing with complex HR issues including change management.

Fundraising, Marketing and Comms – This person will work closely with our Head of Development and Commissioning on our income strategy and communications strategy.

Psychotherapy /working in a trauma informed setting – As an organisation providing psychotherapy and arts therapies for autistic people and people with learning disabilities, we are looking for a trustee with experience of working as a therapist with a systems-psychodynamic approach.
The Board wants to ensure that the charity's 'beneficiaries' are represented in its governance. We encourage applications from people who have lived experience of autism, learning disabilities and/or trauma-informed work (either directly or through family members). How the Board carries out meetings will also be reviewed to accommodate adjustments requested by new trustees with learning disabilities or who are autistic. Time requirement - What is involved?
Trustees attend eight Board meetings per year approximately every six-eight weeks currently on a Tuesday evening 5:30pm to 8pm. Meetings are in London, and remote access is available for trustees who live/work outside London.
Each Trustee is expected to be an active member of the Respond community, committing 5 to 10 hours per month to the charity which may also involve being on a sub-committee such as; Finance Committee, Clinical Governance and Safeguarding Committee each of which meets four times per year, typically during normal office hours online or in London.
Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at Respond prior to their first Board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings. Other meetings are away-days over a weekend.
Trustees are invited to the annual general meeting, which takes place typically in November.
Trustees may claim expenses incurred in effectively carrying out their duties, in accordance with Respond’s Trustee Expenses Policy.
Papers are distributed one week in advance of meetings. In addition, Trustees are expected to review documents and communicate with other board members and senior staff between meetings. Every effort will be made to ensure that trustees with learning disabilities or who are neurodiverse have access to documents in formats that they can understand or have the support available for them to fully participate as trustees.
Occasionally, circumstances may require urgent meetings (either face-to-face or virtual) to examine strategic issues or items requiring Board approval
Duration of the role
Board terms are for a five-year term following which the person can be elected to serve another three years.

The purpose of the role of Lifelites’ Honorary Secretary will be to create and maintain registers to enable the Trustees to review and update governance, statutory, and regulatory policies and reports, and to file them with external agencies as required. In addition, the role will support Lifelites’ Board of Trustees and Committee meetings, including the preparation of agendas, papers and minute taking.
About you
You are an experienced administrator or company secretary with a highly organised attitude, excellent attention to detail and strong IT skills. You will be passionate about Lifelites’ mission and keen to develop good governance within the charity.
Status
The Honorary Secretary will be a volunteer and not a Trustee. They will have no responsibility for deciding the content of policies and reports but may advise the Trustees on the basis of their knowledge and expertise.

PIP works mainly in the Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster communities to support adults with learning disabilities and autism. Our focus is on teaching and learning life skills so those we work with self-identify as PiP students. Ranging in age from 18 to 92, our average student is around 34 years old.
PiP students have a range of learning disabilities including Down's Syndrome, Fragile X, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), dual diagnosis with mental health problems and/or physical health conditions such as Diabetes and Epilepsy.

About the Chair Role:
The incoming Chair will be an accomplished and influential senior leader, capable of motivating, developing, and getting the best out of our dedicated non-executive team. They will play a pivotal role by fostering a positive and collaborative relationship with the CEO, supporting them in setting ambitious goals and navigating strategic transitions effectively. SolarAid seek an individual with prior experience of chair roles, preferably with a background in international development focusing on poverty alleviation, although direct experience in the energy sector is not mandatory. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide effective strategic leadership to the Board and organisation.
- Ensure full engagement of all Trustees, prioritising decisions in SolarAid's best long-term interests
- Establish and build a strong, effective and constructive working relationship with the CEO, ensuring they are supported in achieving strategic objectives during this period of change for SolarAid.

Time commitment
Around 24-30 days per annum. The board meets four times each year. The Chair is required to work informally with individual board members, and with the CEO, as required. There will be some ad hoc work relevant to SolarAid business, within or outside the charity from time to time.

Being a Board Observer comes with most of the same responsibilities and commitments as a full trusteeship does. Opportunity to Make a Difference: Become a Trustee at St. Luke's Hospice
St. Luke's Hospice is here for our local community when and where they need us. As a Hospice we provide compassionate care and work to ensure equity of access to those in the communities we support, whose illnesses are no longer curable.
Our care ensures dignity and empowers people to make the choices they want from the moment they are diagnosed. We provide support from our two Hospices (Basildon and Thurrock) as well as out in the community at a person’s place of residence, when needed. Our team is made up of various health and social care professionals, many of whom work with us on a voluntary basis.
Our organisation is going through an important and exciting period of transformational change, and we are looking to recruit new Trustees to be part of this on a voluntary basis and to help diversify skills and lived experiences that our Board has.
Our Board are collectively responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity working with the Chief Executive and Executive Team.

Role Details
- Salary: The role is unremunerated, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
- Contract: Trustees are appointed to the Board which is renewable annually at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Time Commitment: There will usually be up to eleven meetings a year at 4-6 week intervals. Meetings are currently scheduled for Wednesdays and last for 2 hours. Board members are expected to attend at least eight meetings a year and actively contribute to discussions.
- Location: St. Luke's Hospice, Basildon and possible hybrid arrangements available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with fellow Trustees and the Executive Team, to set and review strategic goals.
- Ensuring the hospice complies with its governing document, charity law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Attend Trustee meetings (in-person or remotely), which are approximately every 6 weeks and also represent the organisation at external events or other meetings.
- Being an ambassador for St. Luke’s Hospice, promoting its values and work within the wider community.
- Actively contributing to Board meetings and Sub-Committees with insight, perspective, and expertise.

Refugee and Migrant Forum of Essex & London (RAMFEL) seeks a dedicated and passionate individual to hold the Board and Executive Team to account in delivering on the organisation's mission and vision, in addition to providing leadership to the Board of Trustees.

RAMFEL is a charity that supports vulnerable migrants to access justice as well as providing vital support in moments of individual crisis. About the Chair Role:
The Chair will be taking on this pivotal role at a crucial time in RAMFEL's growth and development as an organisation. You will be responsible for:

Time commitment

We are looking for an exceptional individual with the experience, integrity and skills necessary to act as a powerful ambassador for Orchestras Live, and to lead the Board in the governance of the organisation. Leadership experience in any sector and an understanding of the role of not-for-profit Boards are essential. What you will be expected to do
Overall objectives of the role
- Provide leadership to the Board of Orchestras Live, ensuring it fulfils its responsibilities for governance of the organisation and supports realisation of its vision and mission.
- Work in partnership with the Chief Executive to develop and deliver the vision, mission and strategy of the organisation.
- Act as ambassador for Orchestras Live, helping to shape external relationships that will reinforce its national position and strengthen its ability to secure funding from a wide range of sources to fulfill its mission.
Trustees meet as a full Board at least four times a year and there are a small number of standing committees and working groups. Board meetings and an annual Away Day generally alternate between Leeds and London; as our trustees are based in different parts of the country, meetings are usually hybrid so that trustees may attend either in person, or online when distance and scheduling is an issue. Committees and working groups usually meet on Zoom. Papers are circulated by email in good time for trustees to read them thoroughly before the meeting.
The Chair can expect to commit to the equivalent of up to 30 days per year. This includes monthly meetings (in person or online) with the Chief Executive and regular communication with the Chief Executive and/or Company Secretary as required, as well as time spent in preparation and planning regarding governance and strategy. Full day commitments are rare; the expectation would be mostly for half days and 1-2 hour meetings (generally online).
In addition, all trustees are expected to attend at least two Orchestras Live activities a year and contribute feedback for our internal evaluation systems.
Whilst the role is voluntary and unpaid, travel and other appropriate expenses are reimbursed.
Term
We are looking for a Chair for an initial, minimum three-year term; ideally to be renewed for a second term to a total of six years.
Our Chair is appointed by the Orchestras Live Board of Trustees and is accountable to them.
The Role of Chair
The Chair of Trustees has the same legal responsibilities as other Trustees, but has additional responsibilities assigned by the Board.
Board leadership and meetings
- Chairing meetings of the Board and ensuring that, through the Board and its committees, the Board runs effectively, fulfils its duties and carries out resolutions. Calling special meetings if necessary. Drawing up agendas for meetings with the Chief Executive and Company Secretary.
- Chairing meetings effectively and sympathetically, creating an environment in which all Board members are encouraged to participate and challenge constructively and appropriately.
- Ensuring that high standards of corporate governance and ethical, professional behaviour are maintained and, as appropriate, introduced to meet changing circumstances and good practice.
- Fostering collaborative and effective relationships between the Board, the Chief Executive and the staff team.
Governance
- With the Board, ensuring that financial controls and systems of management and risk are in place and effectively operated, and that the Board is kept informed in a timely and relevant manner of key issues and opportunities and performance against the business plan.
- To support, challenge and appraise the Chief Executive in managing the organisation, maintaining a balance between artistic and business goals, and ensuring a clear separation between executive and non-executive roles following corporate governance principles.
- Conducting periodic Board effectiveness reviews, ensuring that new Board members are fully inducted and that existing Board members are contributing effectively.
- Keeping an eye open for conflicts of interest.
- Generally keeping in touch with Trustees to ensure that they feel valued and can make a full contribution to Orchestras Live.
Advocacy
- Representing the Board and organisation to external stakeholders including funders, national and local government politicians, policy makers and the media where appropriate.
- Being a champion for fundraising, helping to identify and develop relationships with potential and existing donors and supporters.
- Encouraging Trustees to play an active role as advocates in their networks, attend events and external meetings when the Chief Executive or senior staff would value this.

Lead Volunteer Role Description
- To update the Volunteers’ Rota from the Court diary and ensure that each Volunteer in the team and the CCSS office has a copy. Wherever possible, the Rota should be kept on a computer for updating and emailed to the rest of the team and the office.
- Ensure sufficient numbers of Volunteers are on duty for effective and appropriate support for bereaved families and witnesses who attend the Inquests.
- To arrange and re-arrange the Rota between the Volunteers, noting any holiday or leave of absence dates.
- Ensure a finalised Rota is sent to the office at the end of each month in order for volunteer expenses to be checked and processed.
- To ensure that all the Volunteers have each other’s contact details and the Volunteer emergency contact details are included in the court file and updated when changes occur.
- To ensure monthly and yearly statistics are kept up to date and to send the Monthly Statistics to the Volunteer who collates the stats at the end of each month.
- To ensure there are sufficient Report Forms for the Volunteers’ use if collecting stats in paper format. If alternative methods of collecting stats are used, to ensure that the team are all using the same method.
- To inform the Operations & Training Manager and the CCSS office of the need for more Volunteers or of any leavers.
- To assist with the recruitment interviews and induction of new Volunteers.
- Responsible for the support of new Volunteers and their final sign off. Where the Lead Volunteer has concerns about the level of support required or the competency of a new Volunteer, they should refer those concerns to the Operations & Training Manager.
- To organise Volunteer team meetings (minimum of 3 meetings per year) and to inform the Operations & Training Manager and the CCSS office via email of the dates of these so they can attend if necessary/appropriate.
- To immediately refer any serious concerns raised by the Coroner or Coroner’s Officers to the CEO.
- To inform the CEO immediately of any issues or concerns that arises at the Court that might impact on the CCSS.
- To provide local information for the Helpline Court Information Sheet when requested.
- To ensure the team follow the practices of the court and work in partnership with the court staff.
- To forward any testimonials about the support provided by our volunteers to the CCSS office.
- Responsibility for maintaining the stock of CCSS leaflets.
- Organise cover for themselves when they are on holiday or need to take time off.

The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.
We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.
We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum commitment of one day (9:00am - 5:00pm) per fortnight is asked for. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.
New volunteers should possess good communication and listening skills and the ability to empathise with people they support.
