At Hestia we have gardens and outdoor spaces which require your support to bring these back to life by keeping them maintained.

We are recruiting for volunteers to motivate and inspire staff and people living in our services to get involved in gardening.

Engaging in gardening has shown to have both immediate and long-term effects on mental health. Gardening for several hours has been known to reduce depression, stress and anxiety.

What you will be doing:

• Inspire and motivate staff and people in the services to get involved in maintaining and growing the garden
• To provide tips on how to maintain and grow the garden - sowing seeds, planting bulbs, taking cuttings
• Provide basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control and leaf raking
• Lead in planting and nurturing new trees, flowers, and various plants
• Provide best practice on how to use the correct gardening tools
• Inspire people in our services and staff to maintain a clean garden
• Advise staff on the costs of plants and garden necessities

Are you passionate about singing and would like to empower others to use their voices in a choir?

We are recruiting for a Choir Support and Engagement Volunteer at our Dame Gertrude Young House which supports men who have mental health needs. Choirs have shown to reduce stress levels and depression as well as creating a sense of togetherness. We are looking for a volunteer who loves singing and is willing to get involved, whilst also encouraging our service users to participate and sing together! Your role will also involve supporting service users getting to and from the venue.

Researcher (voluntary)

Real are running a study into disability and wellbeing, and we are looking for D/deaf and Disabled people to train as field researchers to support the work.

We plan to interview 1000 Disabled people across London over two years using a tool validated by the World Health Organisation. The tool analyses the impact that different services and interventions have on Disabled people’s wellbeing, and each interview participant will receive a personalized report on what the tool says about them after the interview.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in research that will have both a great personal impact for the participants and that will provide the evidence base to make services better for everyone.

No experience in interviewing or research is needed to volunteer. Instead, you will receive:

• In-depth training in interview and research skills, GDPR compliance, safeguarding and disability equality.

• A DBS check if you do not have this already.

• A £40 voucher for the retailer of your choice after completing the training and 5 interviews, and more vouchers the more interviews that you do.

• Access to a peer support network for trainee researchers, with meetings held quarterly.

You need to be 18 or older and live in London to volunteer with the project, and you will need to be comfortable conducting the interviews. You must also have lived experience of disability and be available for at least half of one weekday per week, as not all interviews can be scheduled in the evenings or weekends.

MHA is the largest charity care provider for older people in the UK. Our mission is to inspire the best care and wellbeing at every stage of later life. At Lawnfield House Care Home we provide residential dementia care for 41 residents

As a Volunteer Gardener, you’ll help us make the most of the outdoor space at our home for the enjoyment of our residents. You’ll help with small gardening tasks that may vary each week and depending on the season. You’ll also have opportunities to support residents to access the garden and enjoy light gardening tasks such as potting plants.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

During the school summer holidays, Hestia runs a six-week Summer Play Scheme providing activities and outings for mothers and their children across our refuges. Funded through generous donations from the public, the Summer Play Scheme provides women and children with a safe and supportive space to reconnect by having fun and sharing happy memories together as family.

Role Description:

Nova Roots is a new out of hours community space for women 18+ leaving forensic mental health services, open 3 days a week; every Weds, Sat & Sun. We offer a safe, warm, non-judgemental social environment for women to build meaningful connections and have access to free activities and resources.

As a peer volunteer, your role will be to support individuals using a peer approach by co-facilitating peer-led workshops, offering emotional and social support. By doing this, it provides an opportunity for service users to develop and manage meaningful and purposeful choices in an independent and empowered way.

Please be aware that if you are invited to interview you will be asked to complete a self-declaration form covering your criminal record or any information that would make you unsuitable to work with the vulnerable parties associated with this role, i.e. vulnerable adults and/or children and young people.

• Are willing to tap into their lived experiences and use their stories to inspire hope in others when appropriate
• Are comfortable with co-producing and co-facilitating peer led workshops
• To assist the Forensic Project Coordinator in the daily running of the Forensic Women’s hub
• Are able to take on any ad hoc admin/support responsibilities within the Forensic Women’s Hub

Time commitment and expenses:

• Flexible hours (shifts to be confirmed). Evening and Weekend availability is required. We are looking for someone to commit to a minimum of at least 1 day a week: Wed, Sat or Sun.
• We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role
• Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Purpose of the Role: The Volunteer Research Assistant will support White Ribbon Alliance UK's efforts to improve maternal and reproductive health by conducting research, analysing data, and contributing to reports and publications. This role is crucial for informing our advocacy and program development. 

Our aspirations for activities the volunteer would perform:

• Assist in designing and implementing research projects, including survey design. 

• Perform desk research, literature reviews, data collection, and analysis. 

• Contribute to research reports, briefs, and presentations. 

• Manage administrative tasks to support research projects. 

• Contribute to the development of research reports, briefs, and presentations. 

• Utilise SharePoint and Microsoft Teams for collaboration and document management.
