About us
SurvivorsUK exists for men and non-binary people who have experienced sexual abuse, sexual assault or rape, or any survivor who thinks we’re the right service for them.
We support – by providing services such as a helpline, counselling, ISVA and groupwork.
We challenge – by raising public awareness of the issue, and dispelling myths
We build – by creating and facilitating networks for better access to help
We provide emotional support, information and signposting to survivors and anyone worried about someone they know, through a national website and webchat service (open until 8pm most evenings). Last year, 2,600 people contacted us via our webchat services and social media.
In London, we are the only organisation providing specialist services for men and boys, including individual counselling and therapeutic group work. Across London, we provide the capital’s only Independent Sexual Advisor (ISVA) Service that helps men and boys through the criminal justice system.
Purpose of Role
This is an exciting time to be joining SurvivorsUK, as we look to expand our Board with committed professionals bringing their expertise in the following roles:
- Clinical Trustee
- Fundraising Lead Trustee
- Legal Lead Trustee
- Finance Lead Trustee
The organisation is currently reviewing our strategy and our new Trustees will bring complementary skills to help shape our work and plans for the future. SurvivorsUK is a well respected and financially stable charity delivering high quality, in-demand services to our beneficiaries.
We are looking for experienced people with passion, professionalism and commitment to help ensure we continue to deliver high quality services to those we support.
Main responsibilities of all Trustees include:
- To set and maintain the vision, mission and values.
- To ensure that SurvivorsUK pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
- To maintain proper financial control and ensure that SurvivorsUK applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives.
- To develop strategy and support the operational management of the organisation.
- To ensure that risk is assessed and managed effectively.
- To promote SurvivorsUK and its values, and act in the best interests of the charity.

Time Commitment
Usually there are six Board of Trustee meetings and one AGM per year. In addition, Trustees are expected to be part of a Board sub-committee.
Board meetings are generally held in the evening.
Trustees are also expected to attend occasional training and public or private events, e.g. supporter/fundraising events, strategic away days etc.

The person who is starting the charity up is autistic, has ADHD, CPTSD and also multiple physical conditions that effect daily life and is part of the LGBTQ+ community and has faced a lot of issues in life because of these things.
Living Reasons is being created to fix what we think is a challenging situation that is getting harder to achieve every week, month and year in the current economic, political, environmental and societal landscape. Based in the coastal town of Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar, this post will provide support to the Schools, WASH and Solar projects implemented by the NGO. The successful candidate will work within a combined national and international team to assist in the development of projects, from initial planning stages to final evaluations.
Primary responsibilities include the writing of donor reports and proposals, providing additional support to the project team surrounding project management, and monitoring and evaluation. The role is predominantly office-based with some bush travel. The diversity of activities undertaken will provide a wide-ranging experience for an early career development professional who can effectively and efficiently deal with a comprehensive range of tasks related to the complex world of overseas development. It is essential that the post holder is able to work in English to a high standard and it would be desirable to have at least basic French. Candidates who do not meet these criteria will not be considered.
Location: Fort Dauphin, Anosy Region, Madagascar
Timeframe: 1 year, extendable
Terms and conditions: Voluntary with local monthly stipend towards accommodation and contribution to insurance of £650
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Write project reports, to a high standard of English, that clearly demonstrate the successes and challenges of the WASH and Education infrastructure projects, learning from the project and providing clear budgetary information
● Compile funding proposals based on past evaluation, team discussion, and international best practice in an engaging and professional manner
● Conduct internet searches and searches through SEED’s funder database for potential donors to fund projects
● Take a leading role in gathering statistics and ensure that all existing statistics relating to the projects are accurate
● Work alongside the Communications and Media Officer writing regular social media updates, blog posts, and website copy
● Support the development of projects that fulfill local needs and sit within the aims of SEED, taking into account research findings, contextual constraints, government objectives, and SEED’s previous experience
● Conduct research into international best practice with regard to Solar, Digital Learning, WASH and Education infrastructure programmes and take the lead in discussing these with the team
● Monitor and update project trackers according to project activities, ensuring the project is on track to meet project indicators and objectives
● Take an active role in project management meetings, leading these where appropriate
● Take an active part in international team meetings and supporting other members of the team
● Work with national staff in increasing their skills and capacity, providing mentoring or training where appropriate
● Assist in data collection and basic analysis where required, assisting the MEL Specialist in developing monitoring and evaluation tools, and completing MEL reports for projects
● Work alongside the Programme Manager and Head of Finance in developing and managing the budgets relating to projects
● Maintain a database of projects and funders alongside the UK team in London
● Form part of the team representing projects or SEED when required
● Liaise with the UK team in London ensuring clear communication at all times
● Ensure all of SEED’s policies and procedures are evident throughout the work of the department, including those for safeguarding, whistleblowing, and anti-corruption, and undertake continual training to ensure these are promoted at all times
● Complete other ad-hoc tasks as required by the Solar, WASH and Schools Project Coordinators, Programmes Manager, Head of Department, and Director of Programmes and Operations to further the aims and work of the organisation.
Person Specification
● Hold an undergraduate in or relating to WASH, international development, or have transferable skills or equivalent experience
● Minimum of 1-3 years’ professional experience in securing funding, project management, donor compliance, and donor reporting
● Demonstrate excellent writing skills, previous experience in grant-writing is an asset
● Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in Environment and Sustainable Livelihoods, Community Health, WASH and Education Infrastructure, and their interface with international development; previous experience in WASH, Solar education, or community-based work would be an asset
● Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to SEED’s ethos and approach, and be a good ambassador for SEED at all times
● Have passion, curiosity, and motivation for the job and the ability to enthuse others
● Have the ability and desire to work with teams from different economic and cultural backgrounds, and across multiple language barriers
● Have the ability and desire to build capacity and share skills across cultures, and work with teams from different economic and cultural backgrounds, across multiple language barriers

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.
I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…
It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

What will you be doing?
One of Fresh Futures key services is Brian Jackson College, an alternative education provision. The college can support up to 100 young people aged 13 to 18 based across three sites, in Heckmondwike and Huddersfield. The College is rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted.
There are ambitious plans to grow the provision across Kirklees and neighbouring areas in the near future.
The Board of Governors is a sub-committee of Fresh Futures Board of Trustees. Governors can also be appointed as Trustees of the Charity, but do not need to be so.
The role of the Governors is to:
· Ensure clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction
· Hold the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the College students, and the performance management of staff
· Oversee the financial performance of the College and make sure budgets are allocated appropriately
Governors are asked to attend 4 meetings a year, one per term, usually held virtually via Teams, and one in-person awayday.
What are we looking for?
We are looking to fill vacancies on our Trustee board and on our Finance and Governors sub committees.
Members of these committees do not necessarily have to also be Trustees. We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
We are particularly interested in recruiting new Trustees/members who have experience in any of the following:
· Health and safety
· Charity finance
· Marketing & PR
· Charity fundraising
· The commercial sector
· Knowledge of Kirklees
· Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
· Independent education

We are looking for people who have the right skills and experience to ensure that the Board ensures that SBEG works towards its vision, achieves its corporate goals and objectives, and supports and enhances the work of the team. We are also keen to ensure that our Board is diverse and inclusive, reflecting the area’s identity, and those that work, visit, study and live here. Following a skills review of our current Directors, we are keen to hear from candidates with experience and skills in sustainability, marketing, human resources and legal.

Introduction
Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) is a UK-registered charity dedicated to reducing global malnutrition through knowledge exchange, research, and advocacy. Since its founding, ENN has worked at the forefront of nutrition thought leadership, enabling evidence-based programming and policy development to improve nutrition outcomes in low- and middle-income countries and crisis settings.
We are now seeking a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees, oversee financial governance, and support ENN’s strategic direction as we enter our next phase of growth and impact.
The Treasurer Role
Being an ENN Trustee is an important, influential and valuable role and as well as ensuring that we are an accountable and well governed organisation you will make an important contribution to our current work and future direction.
The Treasurer plays a vital role in overseeing the charity’s financial performance and sustainability; leading the finance sub-committee to inform the board in its decision making.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Guide the board in its understanding of ENN’s financial strategy, budget management and risk oversight.
- Chair the Finance sub-committee, ensuring well-structured and inclusive discussions, clear decision making, and effective follow-up on actions.
- Relationship with the Finance Manager: Build a strong, supportive, and transparent relationship with the FM. Providing guidance and challenge as a critical friend and ensuring effective communication between the Board and the Management Team on financial strategy.
- Advise on Auditor identification, engagement and management.
- Oversight of ENN’s Reserves Policy and management
- Oversee compliance with UK Charity and Company Law.
- Review of ENN’s financial systems and reporting, to the extent they serve project delivery, transparency and accountability.
- Approval of ENN’s Banking and Investments
- Backstopping technical resource to Finance Manager, CEO and Chair.
- Reporting any financial improprieties or misconduct
- Attend quarterly Board and finance sub-committee meetings and contribute to strategic development
- Safeguard, respect and demonstrate ENNs values, policies and reputation
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Extensive senior management experience in finance, with relevant qualifications (AAT / ACCA or equivalent)
- Experience in overseeing annual audits, identifying and managing auditors
- Understanding of the role of a Trustee and how Trustees can interact with ENN’s Management Team to best effect.
- Experience of multiple income/project organisations.
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector is desirable.
- Prior experience of working with or on a board is desirable.
- Strong inter-personal and relationship-building skills
Time Commitment – And our Commitment to You
Your commitment in an average year is likely to be 4 pre-fixed board meetings, each of half a day. Each of these are preceded by sub-committee meetings, usually of ninety-minutes, and each trustee is expected to prepare for all meeting and participate in one sub-committee. The Treasurer chairs the Finance sub-committee. Other committee and ad hoc meetings and additional support will be arranged as agreed. We encourage active participation and engagement, and Trustees often give more time outside of this, on their own terms.
Board meetings are held virtually, with an intention to hold one facilitated face to face meeting at the ENN HQ in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, every two years. Additional sub-committee meetings will be convened remotely.
Ideally you will join the Board in 2025, though we can show some flexibility for the right candidate, and in your first few months you should allow for additional time for induction and orientation (including meeting a number of the Leadership Team).
Remuneration
This is an unpaid, voluntary position. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed for attendance at Board meetings and other Trustee activities in line with ENN’s policies. Some employers encourage and enable trusteeship as part of wider career development and corporate social responsibility; please check with your organisation and their relevant policies.
Screening Checks
All candidates who we progress will be screened through Accuity World Compliance to comply with counter terrorism and financial sanctions regulations. Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check (or equivalent criminal records check where available, for non-UK citizens) and 2 satisfactory references. Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.
I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…
It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

About the role

Board members are required to attend four quarterly meetings a year, which last for up to three hours as well as three of four times a year to review grant applications. They are currently held during the day.
