The 78ᵗʰ annual Hanbury Show, which takes place on Saturday 5th July in 2025, is loved by families from across the region. There really is something to entice and occupy all ages - exciting displays, action-packed arena programmes, have-a-go activities, local food and drink, and quality shopping. 

 At Acorns we provide care and support for life limited or life threatened children and their families. We are a charity, and our fundraising is vital to enable us to continue providing care and support to the children: it costs around £13 million a year to run our care services. 

Join our amazing fundraising team for an exciting day of giving back on Saturday 5th July at Hanbury, we need enthusiastic volunteers to:

• Collect donations to support a great cause.
• Manning the awareness stand.
• A volunteer to dress up as Alex the Acorns!

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference, connect with the community, and support an important cause. Join us and be part of something special!

How much time will it take?

The event runs from  8am-1pm and 1pm-5pm; you can join for a few hours, or the full day—whatever suits you!

We’ll provide bottled water and snacks, parking should be available, and you’ll get free entry to the show!

We can only accept volunteers who are 18 years of age or older. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must also apply as they need to accompany you for the duration of your volunteer activities.

We are looking to recruit a Support Volunteer for the Taunton and District Group. As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. That could be helping someone access local information about the care or benefits they need or giving them a hand with a grant application. See a video about one of our Support Volunteers here.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the local area the group to carry out this role.

We are looking for up to ten UK university students to join our volunteer Student Ambassadors team and help Ygam achieve its social purpose by reaching out to students at university. This will be achieved by advising Ygam on the needs of students, supporting with content development, organising activities at your campus, and join us at events to raise awareness of gaming and gambling harms.

We are seeking individuals who are outgoing, with a confident personality. You will enjoy engaging with other students and be able to advise us on the experiences of students with regards to gaming and gambling.We’d love to hear from students with an interest in mental health, psychology, content development, and gaming. 

We are looking for enthusiastic and energetic volunteers to help at this Wellness Walk for the morning, for the afternoon or for the whole day.

How can you get involved?

Help us set up in the morning and prepare for the big day and welcome walkers. This could include helping hand out event t-shirts, route maps or answering questions. You could then take on the walk or relax.

Help us throughout the day, supporting our team as we set walkers off and welcome them back to our wellness celebration.

Cheer our supporters on as they come back from their walk and hand out medals.

Help us pack down at the end of the day.

Volunteers who are based at the event site can take on a variety of different roles and work in morning or afternoon shifts, including:

• Answering walkers’ questions and directing around the site
• Handing out t-shirts and event packs at the registration tent
• Cheering our walkers back into the Finisher’s Area and on the route
• Handing out medals

As branch chair you and your branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

What you will be doing

• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.
• Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.
• Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.

1. Visit veterans, provide companionship, read, play games, or assist with non-medical tasks.
2. Visit to offer friendly conversation and emotional support to veterans who live in assisted living or long-term care homes
3. Support veterans with small home projects, yard work, or safety modifications.
4. Deliver food to homebound or disabled veterans.
5. Help veterans in transition to civilian careers by assist them in Resume Writing & Job Coaching.
6. Observe and understand the physical, mental, and emotional needs of veterans.
7. Encourage and assist veterans to maintain their independence where possible.
8. Support engagement in social activities or hobbies to promote well-being.
9.  Assist with educational goals or mentorship for younger veterans.
10. Help organize or run events on Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc.

Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects

Fundraising Heroes

Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.

Administrators

Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.
