This is a hands-on role within a small but ambitious team. The Treasurer will have oversight of Men Who Talk’s financial health, ensuring the charity operates in a financially responsible manner while providing the Board with accurate financial information to guide decision-making. 

Our finances are in a strong position, and we entered the new financial year in April with a healthy cash flow and robust fundraising strategy. Over the last 3 years, we have seen yearly financial growth quadruple year on year, with the 2024/25 financial year bringing in over £40,000 of funding through various streams.

Having received grants from funders such as the National Lottery Community Fund, the Simon Rivett-Carnac Trust and the Caterham Round Table amongst others, we have an agreed budget to spend down our current balance over the 2025/26 financial year, with a focus on ambitious growth across all areas.

The Treasurer will work closely with Sam, our Founder and CEO and Martins, our Operations Manager to identify financial risks, ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and HMRC, and develop strategies to secure the charity's financial sustainability as we expand.

Key Responsibilities

• Attendance at Regular Board Meetings: The board meets four times a year, usually a combination of two online and two in-person meetings. Other ad hoc meetings and catch-ups may be required.
   

• Financial Oversight: Regular monitoring of the financial accounts, ensuring the charity adheres to sound financial practices and complies with UK charity regulations.
   

• Long-Term Financial Strategy: Provide guidance on the financial strategy, including planning and budgeting for future growth and expansion.
   

• Monthly Reporting: Present a top-level Treasurer’s Report to the Board each month, outlining the charity’s financial position, income, expenditure, and risks. Board meetings each quarter will also include more in-depth financial updates.
   

• Budgeting: Support the board and CEO in preparing the annual budget, taking into account the charity’s plans for growth, new services, and the expansion of activities.
   

• Financial Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks and recommend strategies to mitigate these risks.
   

• Compliance: Ensure that financial procedures are followed, including the maintenance of designated and undesignated funds.
   

• Reserves: As a priority for 2025/26, the Treasurer will take a lead on updating our reserves policy and ensuring this is adhered to going forward.
   

• Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO to ensure the charity’s finances align with its goals, particularly as we expand our services and charitable activities over the next three years.
   

• Annual Accounts: The Treasurer will take the lead on the preparation and submission of the annual accounts, working with an external auditor and accountant to ensure the charity’s accounts are transparent and well-maintained.
   

• Financial Procedures: Ensure effective financial controls are in place and help the team implement best practices for financial management.
   

• Advise the Board: Provide financial advice and insights to support the Board in making informed decisions regarding the charity’s operations and growth.

Samaritans Research Ethics Board (SREB) is an independent group that provides ethical assurance of research within Samaritans. SREB aims to help ensure that any research projects and activities carried out within or on behalf of Samaritans meet the organisation’s research ethical standards, as outlined in Samaritans' Research Ethics Policy.

Samaritans is looking to appoint a new SREB member with relevant professional expertise:

"relevant academic and professional backgrounds in research related to the work of Samaritans (e.g., psychology, sociology, public health, user research, funding organisations, or national research ethics bodies) holding a postgraduate qualification or equivalent professional experience”.

This role is home-based; there are two meetings per year (online), in addition to 3-7 hours a month of home working. This voluntary (unpaid) role has a three-year term.

Position Overview:
The Programme Specialist is critical in supporting the delivery of a high-impact employability and skills development programme. Working under the guidance of the Programme Lead, this position focuses on coordinating projects, managing participant engagement, and ensuring the smooth execution of training initiatives, mentorship activities, and job placement efforts. The Programme Specialist directly empowers individuals to achieve workforce readiness and sustainable employment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Coordination:

   • Assist in managing day-to-day activities of the programme, including onboarding, skills assessments, and skills development of participants.

   • Track progress against programme milestones (e.g., participant enrollment and completion rates) and flag delays to the Programme Lead.

2. Participant Support:

   • Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, addressing inquiries and providing guidance on programme resources, training modules, and job search tools.

   • Maintain accurate participant records, including attendance, skill assessments, and post-program outcomes.

3. Stakeholder Engagement:

   • Support the Programme Lead in building relationships with internal stakeholders.

4. Data Management & Reporting:

   • Collect and analyse data on participant progress, employment outcomes, and programme effectiveness using CRM systems or databases.

   • Prepare regular reports for the Programme Lead to inform decision-making and demonstrate impact to funders/stakeholders.

5. Logistics & Compliance:

   • Manage programme materials, including training resources, digital platforms, and participant handbooks.

   • Ensure compliance with programme guidelines, confidentiality policies, and grant reporting requirements.

1. Continuous Improvement:

   • Gather feedback from participants and partners to identify opportunities to enhance programme delivery.

   • Support the implementation of new tools or processes to improve efficiency and participant satisfaction.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Human Resources, or a related field.

• Experience:

  • 1–3 years in programme coordination, workforce development, adult education, or a similar role.

  • Experience working with diverse populations, including youth, underserved communities, or career changers.

• Skills:

  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Google products (Forms, Sheets, Docs, Slides) and familiarity with CRM tools.

The Scottish Steering Committee (SSC) is our voluntary group who drive policy, campaigning and influencing work in Scotland, with the support of The Charity. It aims to represent the views of the community in Scotland and be a solution orientated advisory board to help achieve agreed objectives.

An ambitious and dedicated group, members previously agreed that the key objective of the Committee would be to campaign for a faster diagnosis for those affected by a brain tumour. Their aim is to achieve this through influencing, supporting and campaigning to improve all aspects of the diagnostic journey. Two years after setting this objective, as per the Committee’s terms of reference, we are now seeking new members to join and advocate for change in Scotland.

How can you help?

To achieve these ambitions – the Committee is now seeking five new members with particular experiences and skill sets that can help drive and enable the Committee to achieve its ambitions.

Your experience and skills will provide valuable input during SSC meetings but won’t be limited to just that – you can actively engage with stakeholders across Scotland and the wider UK, contribute to the creation of our policy positions in Scotland and raise the voice of the community across Scotland and beyond.

What impact will you have?

You will be a core member of a group that is seeking to improve outcomes for all those affected by brain tumours in Scotland.

We’re looking for...

People with experiences, knowledge and skills that can actively contribute to the operation of the SSC. This includes but is not limited to:

• Experience of being personally affected by a brain tumour in Scotland

• Clinician who is involved with brain tumours in some capacity

• Experience of working within Scottish Public Affairs or within a Commercial Landscape and environment

• Experience of working within Public Relations or media management

However, all applications will be considered, and we seek to have as varied a skillset as possible with a range of different experiences to have as much representation across Scotland as possible.

We particularly encourage applications from those who are significantly underrepresented in our sector, including individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

Time commitment

The Committee currently holds 90 minute virtual meetings every six weeks. There will also be opportunities to take on additional tasks which can arise at different moments and depending on the activities of the Committee. We will also aim to meet in person at least once a year at an agreed location.

Practical considerations

You will receive a full induction to The Brain Tumour Charity and any specific training for the role, as well as ongoing direction from one of the team, who will be your key contact. We carry out reference checks for all individuals who will be volunteering with us on a regular basis. Volunteers will be required to complete some internal data protection and disclosure documentation before commencing the role. Volunteers must be over 18. We encourage volunteers to claim for any reasonable expenses that are incurred in the course of their volunteering with the Charity. The Deadline for applications is Monday 30 June at 5pm but we may close early if we receive a high number of applications.

About the Role

As part of the Charity’s Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, financial management and governance of the organisation to ensure that at every step we are working to improve people’s experiences of health and social care services. To achieve this, you will:

• Ensure that the organisation works within its mission and charitable objectives and is compliant with charity and company law within the jurisdictions within which it is registered and operates.
• Further the charitable objectives of the organisation, including promoting our mission and staying true to our values.
• Ensure that the organisation’s policies, practice, performance, and operations are in keeping with our aims and objectives.

Responsibilities

Members of the Board of Trustees are expected to:

• Be an active and engaged member of the Trustee group.
• Take part in regular board meetings with a frequency of 6 to 8 meetings each year.
• Undertake work outside board meetings, eg preparation and reading.
• Participate in sub-committees, reflecting trustees’ policies or concerns or provide high level input to defined organisational projects from time to time.
• Interact, respond to and provide constructive challenge to our staff and other board members.
• Occasionally attend our launches and presentations of our work, alongside our staff at events and receptions.
• Occasionally represent Picker at meetings with potential funders or influencers.
• Contribute your skills, interests and contacts and support us in fulfilling our mission and in our influencing and developmental activities.
• Support, coach and help empower our staff to achieve their potential and deliver their goals.
• Take part in any training sessions provided.
• Fulfil any other duties and assignments as may be required from time to time by the Board.
• Act as an advocate for Picker in your activities in other settings.

Commitment

The full Board of Trustees meets every two months, usually in Oxford or remotely via video conference. There may be sub committees, with authority delegated to them by the Board, meeting at other intervals; and staff may seek to consult with you on your particular expertise. Occasionally, you may also be asked to represent Picker at meetings with potential funders or influencers, attend our report or product launches, or work alongside staff at events and receptions. We expect the typical commitment to be around one to two days per month.

Pay range and compensation package

This is an unpaid post, though reasonable expenses incurred through performance of duties will be reimbursed.

Qualifications

Applicants must be committed to the values and vision of Picker and committed to understanding and using people’s perspectives to improve health and social care. Demonstrable passion and commitment to person centred care for health and social care users, their carers and families, and staff is essential.

Required Skills

A background in one or more of the following areas is very desirable for these appointments:

• Communications – with experience of raising the profile of a similar sized charity or organisation to Picker.
• Business development – with expertise in identifying new opportunities to create long term impact.
• Finance experience – with a keen eye for numbers, although you do not necessarily need to be financially qualified.
• Health service – with experience as a user of health and care services, as a researcher in health and social care or as a health service practitioner or manager, whether in the NHS, the private sector, or internationally.
• Social care – with experience of working in or managing a social care provider or elsewhere in the sector.

Preferred Skills

Experience, knowledge, and skills:

• A commitment to the aims and strategic objectives of Picker and the ambitions of its growth strategy.
• A commitment to understanding and using the patient, client, service user, or consumer perspective in health and social care.
• Knowledge and experience of the governance and management principles of a charity registered in England or Scotland (desirable).
• The ability to work supportively with other Trustees, advisers, and executive colleagues to high ethical and professional standards and in line with their legal responsibilities.
• A proven strategic thinker with experience of operating at a senior management level.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and highly organised Administrative Assistant volunteer to support the smooth running of our July Intensive and general operations. A national foundation working to improve access to social investment and enterprise support is seeking new Trustees to join its high-calibre Board. Now in its tenth year, the organisation has a strong track record of widening access to finance for smaller charities and social enterprises, particularly those operating in more deprived communities. Its blended finance programmes represent a significant share of the UK’s social investment activity, and it also supports hundreds of organisations to grow their enterprise models and overcome barriers to investment.

The organisation is now looking to appoint new Trustees who can bring experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Proven leadership in a frontline charity or social enterprise, ideally with additional experience in infrastructure or systems-change roles.
• Senior leadership within a foundation (endowed or non-endowed), with a strong interest in social investment and/or place-based economic development.
• Experience in commercial banking, particularly in capital structuring, co-investment models, or lending to the voluntary and community sector.

At Replacing Animal Research, we’ve been working for over half a century to replace the use of animals in research. We have significantly contributed to the development, and uptake, of non-animal methods by:

• Empowering scientists with our educational opportunities.
• Funding exciting research aimed at replacing animals and improving human healthcare.
• Collaborating with policymakers to ensure more rigorous policy on the use of animals in science. 

Our mission is to ensure scientists use non-animal approaches in biomedical research and testing. It’s a better future for animals and humans. For us to achieve this, we need to ensure that Replacing Animal Research is a resilient organisation with sufficient skills, support, and income to continue its work in the long term. Our trustees are critical to the future of the organisation. 

We are currently seeking more trustees to strengthen our board by providing strategic and governance support. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with an interest or experience in scientific and medical research and testing and the development of non-animal methods. We’d also be interested in hearing from anyone passionate about eliminating animal use in research. We encourage applications from all people regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, belief or race. We are looking for trustees who can demonstrate:

A commitment to our purpose and aims and the strategic vision to support the Replacing Animal Research's future development.

• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to support the charity. (Please see below for more details on the time commitment).
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
• Sound, independent judgement and the ability to challenge constructively.
• The ability to work effectively as a member of a team and make decisions for the good of the charity.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A full induction is provided for new trustees as well as ongoing CPD opportunities and support. The role of trustee requires an annual time commitment of around 8 working days which works out around 5 hours per month. This includes:

• Preparation for and attendance at 6 general board meetings, which are held remotely.
• Preparation for and attendance at sub-committee meetings as appropriate.
• Between meetings, trustees may be asked to contribute to discussions via email or ad hoc telephone conferences on specific issues.
• Trustees may be asked to sit on or contribute to other project groups or activities from time to time.
• Attendance at 1 or 2 in-person board away days.
