What will I be doing?

Our amazing Activity Volunteers play a key role in supporting blind children and young people to take part in a variety of activities. These range from sports, creative (singing, performing, art), audiobook club and day trips. Our activities are designed for blind young people to meet new friends, gain confidence, learn new skills/sports, and become more independent. The skills you have developed in your career and personal life will be invaluable to our young people. 

Key Tasks and Main Duties 

Face-to-face activities 

• 1:1 sighted guiding from and to public transport locations 

• practical support onsite 

• supporting the sessions 

• facilitate social interaction between the participants 

Who are you?

We welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experiences. You don’t need to have volunteered or worked before as full training will be provided. What’s important to us is that you are a team player, open to learning and willing to follow RSBC’s policies and can be an excellent ambassador for RSBC. We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience of sight problems.

Volunteer with Stepping Stones Learning and Leisure

Stepping Stones is a small, friendly charity in Southwark providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. We believe everyone should have the chance to express themselves, connect with others, and take part in activities that bring joy, confidence, and new skills.

We’re currently looking for volunteers to support our sessions in:

• Art (Friday mornings)
• Dance Fit (Thursday mornings and/or afternoons)
• Music (Tuesday mornings and/or afternoons)
• Social Club (Thursday afternoons)

These weekly groups offer creative, social, and wellbeing-focused opportunities for our learners, led by experienced tutors in a relaxed, supportive setting.

All sessions take place at St Faith’s Centre, Red Post Hill, SE24 9JQ (close to North Dulwich and Herne Hill stations)

What You’ll Do

As a volunteer, you’ll be supporting adults with learning disabilities to participate fully in the sessions, connect with others, and enjoy meaningful activities. Your role might include:

• Setting up and packing away equipment and materials
• Welcoming students and their carers or support workers
• Offering encouragement and practical support in one-to-one or small group settings
• Helping tutors to deliver fun, engaging activities

All sessions are led by experienced tutors, and you’ll be part of a warm and supportive staff and volunteer team who are committed to inclusion, creativity and care.

• Adaptable and flexible. Things don’t always go to plan. A calm, flexible approach helps maintain a relaxed and safe environment for our sessions to run.
• Ready to get stuck in! Many sessions involve art, music or movement. You don’t need to be an expert, but a willingness to join in and get involved makes a big difference.

Prior to volunteering, we ask all volunteers to:

• Attend an induction meeting
• Provide two references
• Complete a DBS check (we will arrange this)
• Commit to volunteering one session per week for 3 x 10 week terms throughout the year. For continuity for our service users, we ask that you commit to volunteer for a minimum of a year with us.

Job description

Dr Johnson’s House is a charming Georgian townhouse, nestled amongst a maze of courts and alleys in the historic City of London. Samuel Johnson, writer and wit, lived here in the mid-18th century, and compiled his great Dictionary of the English Language in the Garret. Today, the House is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday, with collections relating to Johnson, restored interiors, and a research library.

Events Volunteer

Our Events Volunteers play a vital role in welcoming visitors to Dr Johnson’s House during our evening events. At the moment, we need volunteers to help at our Museum Lates. Our visitors love to explore the House after hours and volunteers play an important part in creating a memorable and interesting experience for them.  

Activities

We need help between 5.15pm and 7pm on the following dates:

Thursday 24 July, 5.30-7pm

Thursday 21 August, 5.30 - 7pm

Thursday 25 September, 5.30 - 7pm

Thursday 23 October, 5.30 - 7pm

What it involves (one of the following)

• Ticking off names on the guest list. Most will have prepaid + a few walk-ins.
• Chatting with visitors and answering queries.
• Serving sparkling wine and setting out glasses.

We're currently in a crucial setup phase, and we need your creativity and organisational skills to develop our initial programme of activities. We're looking for a dedicated Volunteer to take on the role of Youth Activity Coordinator to create, set up, and manage a range of one-off and short-term youth work activities (up to 12 weeks). What will you do?

In this pivotal role, you'll be instrumental in shaping the positive experiences young people will have with Urban Youth.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Activity Design: Developing engaging and impactful one-off or short-term youth work activities (e.g., workshops, skill-building sessions, community projects).

• Structure & Planning: Ensuring each activity has a clear start, middle, and end, with defined goals and outcomes.

• Logistics & Setup: Assisting with the practical setup and coordination of activities, including identifying resources and potential venues.

• Impact Measurement: Incorporating simple methods to track participant engagement, progress, and the overall impact of each activity.

• Resource Management: Helping to ensure activities are designed within our current capacity, preventing overcommitment in our startup phase.

• Documentation: Creating clear plans and outlines for each activity that can be easily replicated and assessed.

Who are we looking for?

We need someone who is not only passionate about empowering young people but also brings practical experience in programme development or activity coordination, coupled with strong organisational skills.

You should be:

• Youth-Focused: Genuinely enthusiastic about creating positive experiences for young people.

• Creative & Innovative: Able to generate fresh ideas for engaging youth activities.

Young Carers Volunteer: Role Description 

We are recruiting passionate and motivated volunteers looking for an opportunity to make a significant impact on the wellbeing of Young Carers’ in Wandsworth.

Outline of service 

Our new Young Carers’ Connect project is designed to support the wellbeing of Young Carers’ in Wandsworth. The aim of the service is to reduce isolation, promote wellbeing, connect young people and provide opportunities for fun and respite.

Wandsworth Carers’ Centre supports individuals who are looking after someone who has an illness or disability. By volunteering with us you can help look after the health and wellbeing of Carers and provide them with the opportunity to take a break from their responsibilities and have time out for themselves. 

Outline of Role 

As a Young Carers’ volunteer, you will have the opportunity to support in a wide range of exciting and dynamic activities such as peer support groups, workshops, events, activities and trips. 

Main Responsibilities 

• Building rapport with Young Carers and helping them to feel safe and comfortable 

• Co-facilitating workshops and groups 

• Supporting with the facilitation of trips, events and activities 

• Supporting with setting up and tidying up 

• Supporting with keeping a record of attendance 

• Actively participating in activities, games, events and trips 

• Recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns by reporting to them to the responsible member of staff 

• Upholding confidentiality

As a volunteer, and therefore a representative of the Carers’ Centre, you will be expected to comply with this code of conduct.

• Treat all Carers and the people they care for politely and with respect 

• Ensure that your appearance is clean, neat and tidy at all times 

• Conversations of a personal nature to you should not be had around Carers or the people they Care for 

Benefits To Volunteer 

• Obtain experience of working with a diverse group of young people 

• Reasonable out of pocket travel expenses will be covered 

• Provide support to Carers and the people they Care for in Wandsworth 

• References available upon request (after 6 months) 

• Regular support and supervision

Supervised by: Ms. Eleanor Sandler-Clarke 

Hours: Availability after school and/or during school holidays. For peer support groups or regular activities: A minimum commitment of one session a month. 

Expenses: Reasonable expenses (e.g. travel and parking) incurred through carrying out volunteering activities will be reimbursed, upon the production of receipts. 

Supervision: Regular sessions with the appropriate staff member to be arranged mutually.
