You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to sports clubs, sporting venues and facilities and community groups. What you’ll be doing

Sight loss can be a big deal for many people: It often comes later in life and throws up many challenges. There can be a lot to get your head around and new things to learn. In this role you will help people who have had an initial contact with RNIB by sharing with them relevant information, including available services, ways to connect with others in a similar situation, and opportunities to play a positive role in removing barriers in society. In support of your conversation you will make brief, accurate notes in the customer contact record. In short, you’ll play an important role in helping people on the journey to living well with sight loss.
You will join a well-established, friendly team that make outbound calls to RNIB beneficiaries and supporters. This role can be done from home, with the ability to make calls at times that fit in with your schedule. We’re seeking a minimum commitment of four-six hours per week. Calls can be made between 12pm and 7pm. Full training will be given before you start making calls. We are seeking to recruit a group of volunteers that includes some individuals with lived experience of sight loss.
How you will be supported in your role
Comprehensive training will be given before you start making calls, and support will continue throughout your volunteering. The team you are joining is located across the UK. There are opportunities to connect with other volunteers and colleagues via MS Teams, including social “Kettle catchups”. The team meets twice a year in person, and you will be very welcome to take part.
Reliable broadband or ethernet as calls will be made through your internet connection. You’ll need a quiet and confidential space at home when making calls, so that neither your screen nor conversations are visible / audible to others in your household.

In addition to a charity Trustee’s statutory duties, the Finance Trustee (or Treasurer) plays a vital role in overseeing the financial affairs of the charity, ensuring its financial viability during a potential growth period, and making sure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The Treasurer provides strategic financial guidance to the board and ensures compliance with relevant financial legislation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Oversight and Reporting:
- Oversee the charity’s financial activities, ensuring they align with its mission and objectives.
- Provide regular financial reports to the board of trustees, highlighting key issues, trends, and risks. These include monthly management accounts and updated forecasts.
- Manage the cash flow of the charity by ensuring that receipts and payments are collected and paid in a timely manner.
- Monitor the financial performance and position of the charity, ensuring sustainability and sound management of resources
2. Budgeting and Strategic Planning:
- Lead the finance committee and provide regular updates.
- Manage the development of the annual budget in conjunction with the finance committee.

- Ensure that financial resources are aligned with the charity's strategic priorities.
3. Governance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, including the Charity Commission requirements and UK financial legislation.
- Ensure that proper accounting records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place.
- Liaise with external auditors, managing the annual audit process and ensuring timely submission of annual accounts and reports.
4. Risk Management:
- Identify and manage financial risks, providing the board with clear advice on risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the charity’s investments and reserves policy, ensuring prudent management of funds.
5. Supporting the Board:
- Act as the main point of contact for financial matters, providing guidance and support to fellow trustees.
- Work closely with other trustees to ensure that the board is fully informed of the charity’s financial status and has the necessary information to make sound decisions.
- Contribute to the board’s overall decision-making process, offering a financial perspective on strategic matters.
6. Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaise with key stakeholders, including funders, regulatory bodies, trustees and volunteers on financial matters.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Qualifications:
- A recognised financial qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) is desirable.
Experience:
- Proven experience in financial management, preferably within the charity sector.
- Experience of charity finance, fundraising, and pension schemes is advantageous.

Skills and Knowledge:

TIME COMMITMENT
- Standard terms of Board Trustees are a period of three (3) years. Board members can usually be re-elected for a period of another three (3) years thereafter, for one (1) further term
- ADHD Aware Board Trustees will regularly attend Board meetings and/or send apologies with sufficient warning (no less than two days ahead of meeting)
- All Board members are also expected to respond within two (2) weeks to a request for review of information and comment by any other member of the Board
- If a Board member misses more than three (3) consecutive meetings, it may be appropriate to ask that Board member to resign or take a leave of absence
- Trustees will provide a minimum three (3) month notice period if they choose to step down LOCATION Please note: this role can be carried out largely remotely (via Teams or Zoom). Very occasionally, the Board may gather or take meetings at its main headquarters location in Brighton, East Sussex.

We’re Foothold, and we’re looking for a new Honorary Treasurer.
Our Trustees play a big part in helping us to achieve our strategic objectives and meet the needs of those we’re committed to support: engineers and their families worldwide.
What will you be doing?
Our Trustees get together five times a year for a mixture of virtual and in-person meetings (four Board meetings and one training day with staff), as well as spending time before meetings reading the Board papers and preparing, totaling a commitment of 50–70 hours a year of their time.
They’re responsible for providing strategic direction and making key decisions to ensure we’re delivering on our objectives.
They serve on three Committees.
What are we looking for?
Financial and audit/risk experience (a recognised financial qualification is desirable) and strong knowledge of Statements of Recommended Practice, charity and company law and United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
Experience gained as Trustee or Non-Executive Director in a similarly complex service-orientated organisation.
Strong understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trusteeship.

What we do
BoB helps build the “social capital’ of people who are on a journey of recovery from histories of alcohol, illicit or prescribed drugs. Many of our service users and volunteers across our fourteen London and South-East projects have associated mental and physical health problems, along with histories of homelessness and unemployment.
We largely operate a structure where we recruit volunteers from our service users, and our managers from our volunteer pool, once trained. Our CEO, most managers and some members of the Board have lived experience, and many have been through the drug and alcohol treatment system. This ‘unique’ structure, we believe, gives a high level of peer led understanding of needs and responses
What you will be doing
Purpose of the Trustee Role & Hon Treasurer
The role of a trustee is to ensure that the organisation fulfils its duty to its beneficiaries and delivers on its vision, mission and values. The board of trustees are both jointly and individually responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation's aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.
The Hon. Treasurer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the financial integrity and sustainability of the organisation. Their primary responsibility is to maintain strategic oversight of the organisation’s financial affairs, ensuring that it remains viable, compliant, and well-positioned to achieve its charitable objectives. This includes ensuring that robust financial systems, accurate records, and effective procedures are in place and consistently followed.
The Treasurer works closely with, and is, actively supported by the CEO and Head of Finance & Central Operations, collaborating on both strategic and operational financial matters to ensure sound governance and effective delivery.
Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend bi-monthly board meetings (Tuesday evening) at Earls Court and participate in ad-hoc task groups and occasional on-line meetings.

Strategic Leadership

The Hon. Treasurers Role

· Oversee the appointment and regular review of auditors.
· Work in close partnership with the CEO and Head of Finance & Central Operations to support strategic goals.

What we are looking for
Our Trustee Board comprises people who have good skills and experience in, corporate strategic marketing and communications, health care, HR, information technology, research and legal matters.
Our current Honorary Treasurer is standing down after seven years, and we are looking to replace him. The role of Honorary Treasurer is an important one, being the key person colleague trustees look to for professional advice about all things financial. We have a Head of Finance & Central Operations who manages the day-to-day financial management and reporting systems.
This year we have introduced two systems to underpin our growth to a nearly £2m business. These are Xero and PLEO, with PEOPLE HR for our associated HR functions.
If you’ve experience of senior financial management and leadership, then you could make a significant contribution to our development.
