We’re looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. Everyone deserves a safe, clean, dignified place to call home. Join us, and help end housing poverty.

• Role: Treasurer / Trustee. In addition to the specific responsibilities stated below, you will assume all the usual duties of a Trustee.

• Volunteer: Trustees are volunteers. The role is not paid, however reasonable expenses may be claimed e.g. local travel.

• Time: Three year term, with annual review. Estimated 0.5-2 days per month, including attending six Board meetings per year. You may also be a sub-committee member and attend specific meetings.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The role involves monitoring the financial administration of the charity and reporting to the Board at regular intervals on its state of financial health. The Treasurer will assist the team in setting AzuKo’s strategy, support AzuKo’s staff and ensure all financial affairs are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure there is financial stability with effective and efficient administration

• Monitor and report on the financial health of the charity (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc) at Trustee meetings

• Prepare and process payroll for employees

• Oversee production of financial reports / returns, accounts and audits

• Ensure proper records are kept and effective financial procedures are in place

• Participate in other tasks as arise from time to time, such as interviewing new Trustees, helping with fundraising events

• Act as an ambassador for our cause and for AzuKo

QUALITIES

Essential

• Proven ability to communicate financial information

• Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement

• Competent IT and spreadsheet skills

• Experience of payroll and accounting systems

• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship

Desirable

• Qualified accountant with demonstrated commercial awareness

• Knowledge the charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP)

Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) is a small, independent rare disease charity competing for essential resources within an extremely competitive arena.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for leukodystrophy patients and their families. In order to fulfil our charitable objectives we need to increase and sustain our corporate income levels.

Volunteer Admin Support

Across the UK, our local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Every year, our skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests, designing and creating bespoke equipment free of charge.

As a local admin support volunteer you are the lynchpin of our local branch activities. You will often be the first point of contact, ensure useful information is circulated to other members and help us make sure we keep all the data and details we need up to date.

What the role involves

This is a varied role that each branch tends to do a bit differently, but it will involve:

• Keeping records and data up to date and taking notes at meetings

• Preparing mail-outs

• Answering enquiries

• Accessing the branch REMAP and Portal accounts

• Booking venues for meetings

• Ensuring branch members are aware of current agreements/activities

We can support you to develop the skills you need for this role, and there’s an induction that covers all the areas above. You’ll also have chance to discuss your role and any additional needs with us.

What you’ll need for this role

• Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email

• Comfortable organising the administration of a group

• Able to follow REMAP policies and procedures

• Able to understand and apply our risk management system

Where will I volunteer?

This role is largely home based, but it varies from branch to branch – some branches hold in-person meetings once a month or so, and their volunteers tend to be based in the area the branch covers.

If it works better for you, however, there’s a possibility this role could be done remotely.

Time commitment

This also varies, but it’s generally around 1-3 hours a week.

They should assess chapters frequently to ensure they have a clear awareness of what a chapter requires support, in addition to input from other Trustees. They will then provide hands on support to the struggling chapters with focus on recruitment, events and costumes.

Time Commitment

This role is flexible and can be done remotely. We ask for around 4–6 hours per week, though this may vary depending on activities or events.
