Do you enjoy working with people and would you like to make a positive impact for Turtle Doves? This species was once widespread and numerous but now is down to 2100 pairs in the UK. The Operation Turtle Dove project in partnership of RSPB, Natural England, Penthorpe Conservation Trust and Fair to Nature was established to conserve this iconic, red-listed species. Our staff and volunteers are working with landowners to try and halt and reverse the population decline but we need to measure our progress. Following on from the successful 2021 National Turtle Dove survey, we need to expand our network of survey volunteers in Kent, Sussex and Essex to enable yearly monitoring of survey squares for Turtle Doves.

We are looking for an organised person with excellent communication & IT skills to join our team and to help run the Turtle Dove monitoring program and supporting a network of volunteers. Experience in carrying out bird surveys is welcome but NOT essential, we can provide training so you can understand the role of the surveyors you will be recruiting and co-ordinating. This role could be carried out remotely. This is a year-round roll with peaks in activity before and after the survey season which runs from 11th May until 31st July. All equipment needed will be supplied.

Volunteer Coordinators undertake a wide range of activities, including:

Tasks:

• Dealing with queries from potential new volunteers who get in touch
• Being the first point of contact for our existing volunteers and answering general queries
• Lead on advertising new volunteer roles (on the RSPB and external websites, in the local community)
• Set up interviews with potential volunteers and assist with induction administration

EnhanceAble is a medium-sized charity in the social care sector.  We have a turn over of circa. £2 million per annum.  We have a Board of Trustees, and a Senior Management Team (SMT) consisting of our Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executive, Head of Finance and HR Manager.

As well as fulfilling the duties of a Trustee, the Treasurer maintains an overview of EnhanceAble’s financial affairs. The Treasurer ensures that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place and, along with the Head of Finance, reports to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.

Treasurer role

• Working with the Head of Finance on the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees. 

• Ensuring, at a board level,  that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place. 

• Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the charity. 

• Overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with the Chief Executive and Head of Finance. 

• Being knowledgeable of the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process 

• Ensuring investments and assets are maximised.

• Working with the Head of Finance to oversee the development and implementation of systems for appraising, mitigating and reporting corporate risk. 

• Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, for example, the Charity Commission and/or the Registrar of Companies.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a 3 year term of office, renewal for 3 further terms to a maximum of 12 years.

• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Time Commitment (Estimated at 10 hours per month)

• Attending 4 Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held in person at our head office KT1 2TW

• Monthly scheduled meeting with the Head of Finance with flexibility to respond swiftly to the occasional ad hoc issue.  Other members of the senior management team will join some of these meetings.

What is a Divisional Secretary?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.

There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.

What training and support would you receive?

• Role specific training to prepare you for your voluntary role – confidentiality and boundaries, personal safety, caseworker course, caseworker IT system training, volunteer management – case management and quality. The caseworker course takes 3 days and please allow a further day for the other training.
• Mandatory on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families safe and personal information safe.

Our Trustees are volunteer board members who play a vital role in making sure that EIDA achieves its mission.  As a group, they:

• Oversee the overall management and administration of the charity.
• Ensure that EIDA has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
• Provide support and challenge to the executive team, enabling EIDA to grow and thrive.

We are seeking up to four new Trustees to join the existing group of eight. 

EIDA has a UK-wide remit with a membership made up of employers, and we want to reflect that across our Trustees.

Trustee duties

Trustees are the people who lead our charity and decide how it is run.  We envisage the trustee duties broadly as:

• Support and provide advice on EIDA’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee EIDA’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve EIDA’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to EIDA’s CEO.
• Keep abreast of changes in EIDA’s operating environment.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect EIDA’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.
• Participate in periodic appraisals of the performance of the Board of Trustees, collectively and individually.
• Represent EIDA at external functions, meetings and events.

Terms of appointment

Position: Trustee

Location: This is a hybrid role, with occasional travel required to Board and network meetings held in central London

Terms: A maximum fixed term appointment of one three-year term followed by a further three-year term

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment: EIDA’s Board of Trustees meets 4-5 times a year within the working hours of 10-5pm.  Currently meetings are held in London and remotely (Zoom).

What will you do?
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with our project team to transcribe audio recordings related to the WRAC project. You'll ensure accuracy and clarity in the transcripts, contributing to the accessibility of these invaluable stories. Your responsibilities may also include prioritising transcription tasks and maintaining the integrity of the original recordings.

What are we looking for?
Ideal candidates will possess excellent listening and typing skills, with a great attention to detail. While experience with transcription tools is preferred, it's not required. An interest in, knowledge of, or eagerness to learn about British history would be advantageous.
