Job Description

As a Volunteer Counsellor/Therapist you will provide:

· Online/telephone counselling/therapy support services to individual staff members in Hopscotch, who may be in need. The team have access to reflective supervision and external clinical supervision but sometimes need personal support for issues they are facing

· One-to-one counselling sessions online or by phone. With your recognised counselling qualifications, accreditation, insurance and experience you will be an asset to our small charity team

In this role you’ll be able to develop your counselling and therapy skills within an organisation which is person-centred and fiercely trauma-informed

What the role involves

This role may vary depending on needs, but is likely to include:

• Working with individual team members, as needs arise, over and above their clinical supervision. The team member may be experts in health and social care, domestic violence, mental health issues, or any of our other services
• Undertake an assessment session, followed by time-limited counselling with an integrative approach based on humanistic values (via Zoom or phone) to our staff, offering each up to 6 sessions
• Maintain succinct, relevant session notes and store these securely
• Maintaining client confidentiality, upholding data protection and equal opportunities principle
• Attend your own monthly supervision in line with your professional body’s code of ethics, to ensure safe working practices
• Completing paperwork for a DBS check with Hopscotch

What you need for this role

Essential

• Be a member - including student membership - of one of the recognised organisations (see below)
• Level 4 Diploma qualification as a minimum (or be studying towards one)
• Certificate in online counselling such as How to Do Counselling Online by Open University & BACP
• Minimum of 100 hours of supervised counselling hours
• Evidence of professional indemnity insurance and clinical supervision

Are you looking for a new challenge? We are seeking to appoint suitable individuals as Volunteer Panel Members (known as Associate Hospital Managers - AHMs) to work independently of our Trust and clinical teams who assess and treat people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA).

If you are an organised, articulate person with a broad experience of life, who can work collaboratively, work within specified procedures and is passionate about delivering high quality mental health services, then this rewarding role may be worth considering.

The MHA 1983 sets out procedures under which a detained patient may ask for a review of their detention heard by a panel of three or more AHMs. Written evidence is taken from appropriate doctors, nurses, and social workers; oral evidence is taken from these professionals, from the patient and others as appropriate.

The Trust presents its case for continuing detention under the applicable section of the MHA. The patient may have the support of a legal representative or an advocate. Following review, section 23 of the MHA provides that the Associate Hospital Managers may exercise the power to discharge a patient. Similar procedures are followed in the regular review of detentions, renewals and extensions.

Main duties of the job

• To understand the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA) and the MHA 1983 Code of Practice, with particular reference to the role of managers (MHA (1983) Section 2, 3, 37, 20, and 23 and MHA 1983 Code of Practice Chapters 37 and 38). An electronic link to the Code of Practice will be issued on appointment.
• To sit on a panel with two or more other AHMs and conduct a hearing (online and in person)
• To read reports on a patient's mental state, their social circumstances, and nursing care. These reports will include existing care plans and arrangements for after care. The panel may then interview and question the patient professionals and other family members/carers of the patient at hearings.
• If present, to help the patient explain why they wish to be discharged from detention, sympathetically and openly at hearings.
• To balance information presented and decide whether to exercise the power to discharge. Discharge from detention can only be affected by the unanimous decision of 3 AHMs.
• To confirm the decision for continued detention/continuation of Community Treatment Order (CTO) or discharge the patient.
• To attend relevant meetings and AHM related training as required

Job responsibilities
AHMs are independent volunteers who work in accordance with the guidance outlined in the Code of Practice to the MHA 1983 to review patients compulsory detention and Community Treatment Orders against statutory criteria. The Code of Practice to the MHA 1983 specifically states that AHMs cannot be employees of the organisation.

You will be expected to attend at least two hearings per month either via Teams or in person at one of our hospital sites. You will be reimbursed for travel expenses and an attendance fee of £50 is payable per hearing. You will be provided with a Trust laptop to carry out AHM duties.

The Trust will support you by providing a comprehensive induction, as well as training and development for the role, mentoring and professional review. You will be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred in relation to the role and an attendance fee is payable per hearing.

One of our aims is to have every type of disability in every culture, religion and ethnicity depicted through our characters. And yes, we know that’s going to mean a lot of hard work and a lot of characters! But NO we are not asking you to complete this entire project!

We’ve created 11 characters so far that depict a variety of conditions. We want to look at potentially re-developing these characters and starting work on some new ones!

Corporate Justice Coalition’s (CJC) mission is to secure greater protection of human rights and the environment with regard to the global operations of UK corporations, including improved access to justice for those harmed by the activities of UK companies. We work with a diverse range of mainly civil society coalition partners from the fields of global poverty, environmental sustainability and human rights to: change government policies and the law; maintain and strengthen civil society advocacy and campaigning on corporate accountability; develop and promote shared policy solutions; promote public support for the rights of people affected by corporate abuses and solutions to this.

We are looking for two new trustees to join our board. We are looking for a treasurer and another trustee with experience of fundraising in the charity sector.

Rising Capacities for Children Africa(RICCA)

RICCA focuses on enhancing the learning environment for children aged 6-14, by improving school infrastructure and teacher quality through targeted support, providing educational resources, and enhance children's well-being while strengthening community capacity to protect their rights and offering after-school support to children.

Child poverty in rural Kenya, particularly in counties like Kirinyaga, where I’m from, is a significant issue. Children are deprived of essential needs like nutrition, water, education, and healthcare due to limited or no state resources. Many are sent home from school for wearing tattered clothes, and to afford school fees, some work in quarries, construction sites, or on farms. The school environment is often hostile, with overcrowded classrooms, lack of desks and books, and poorly trained teachers. This has led to a high dropout rate, with Kirinyaga topping at 24%. Growing up in similar conditions, I attended the same school my father did and quickly realized that little had changed. Schools remain overcrowded, textbooks are scarce, and students share one teacher per subject across multiple grades. Many children, especially from poor backgrounds, drop out to work I our farms or migrate to cities, where they often end up in slums, turn to crime, or face early marriage, particularly girls. The lack of resources and support continues to perpetuate the cycle of poverty and harship.

RICCA aims to address this problem through various interventions centred around the Ricca Afterschool Center, where children aged 6-17 from surrounding villages in Kirinyaga County are provided with an inclusive, child-friendly, and learner-centered environment that fosters academic success, social development, and engagement. It’s a model to many local schools with limited resources, where our center offers a safe and child friendly space where children feel listened to, supported, and encouraged to enjoy learning.

About Us Kenneth, the founder witnessed high school dropout rates in rural Kenya, caused by poverty, inadequate facilities, teacher shortages, and cultural biases, forcing many children into child labor or crime. This motivated him to found a social venture, RICCA, which establishes child-friendly, inclusive afterschool centers in rural Kenya. These centers offer a safe space for homework, tutoring, and creative skill development (music, art, computer). Children also engage in sports and sustainable agriculture, bridging urban/rural gaps. RICCA aims to provide quality education and reduce child poverty, fostering well-rounded individuals regardless of their background.

Role Description RICCA is seeking a skilled web development volunteer to enhance our existing website. Key tasks include: adding child-focused design elements, improving navigation, linking with active social media, fixing the donation button, adding features like newsletter subscriptions, volunteer, donor engagement pages, and safeguarding resource hubs, as well as embedding key policies (privacy, donor privacy, safeguarding, terms of use). Your work will boost our advocacy, fundraising, and programme visibility. Ideal Candidate Experience with modern web designs or website builders (especially WordPress is a major plus. 2.About the Positive Cities campaign

Positive Cities is a new global initiative from ICAM, launched at UN-Habitat’s World Urban Forum in November 2024, to support cities in taking practical action for vulnerable street dogs and cats. By signing the Positive Cities pledge, city leaders commit to a series of steps that improve animal welfare, make communities safer, and support the wellbeing of both animals and people.

The campaign is still in its early stages – and strong, thoughtful design will play a vital role in how it's understood, shared, and supported around the world.

3.The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Graphic Designer to help shape the look and feel of ICAM’s online presence and our global Positive Cities campaign. Your work will include creating logos, icons, and visuals for our websites, reports, and digital publications – with a special focus on designs that feature dogs and cats in ways that are creative, honest, and compelling.

You don’t need formal qualifications or agency experience, but you should have a good visual eye and feel confident in your graphic design skills. Whether you’re self-taught, a student, a hobbyist with a strong portfolio, or an early-career professional, we’d love to see what you can do. Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, or similar is important, along with a good eye for layout, colour, and composition. A basic understanding of things like file formats and resolution is helpful too.

This is a great chance to make a real impact, contribute to an international campaign, and take creative ownership of designs that will be seen by cities, NGOs, and animal advocates around the world.
