It’s a role that requires resilience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm in tough situations, but for the right person, it’s an incredibly rewarding opportunity.

What you’ll do

You’ll be on the front line of rehabilitation, ensuring residents follow house rules, stay safe, and have access to the support they need. You’ll work closely with probation officers and other professionals, conducting safety checks, reporting incidents, and helping residents engage in positive, life-changing activities. This role is for someone who can handle responsibility, take the initiative, and maintain firm boundaries, all while offering emotional support to those who need it most.

What we’re looking for

If you have experience working with vulnerable people, particularly within the criminal justice system, and can manage challenging behaviour with confidence and compassion, we want to hear from you. Strong communication skills and a team-player mentality are essential.

Sounds great, what will I be doing?

As an Intervention Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Highbury Approved Premises. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence. A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

The role in Approved Premises (AP) involves supporting high-risk individuals transitioning from prison back into the community. Staff work closely with residents, providing guidance, promoting positive behaviour, and helping them build independence while maintaining a structured environment. Responsibilities include preparing meals, supporting rehabilitation plans in collaboration with probation and external agencies, and ensuring residents follow rules such as curfews and drug/alcohol testing. Staff are also expected to assist in running and documenting activities, completing daily tasks, and keeping the premises safe, clean, and secure through regular checks and communication. A key aspect of the role is empowering residents to take responsibility for their own lives, without doing things for them, while providing support and supervision as needed. Staff must adhere to Hestia's policies and the Ministry of Justice's guidelines. 

You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. This role requires strong communication skills to engage effectively with others, offering a flexible and responsive approach. Accurate record-keeping and sharing of information, while respecting confidentiality, is crucial. Understanding the emotional and behavioral impact of trauma and working with individuals displaying various emotions and behaviours is key. You must work well within a team, leading by example, and taking a hands-on approach to practical tasks like cooking, gardening, and leisure activities. A good understanding of safeguarding issues and how to address them is also required.

Contract: Part-Time 18 hours per week

Shifts: 2x Shifts per week, shifts type are:

• 4pm to 11pm (Sleep) then 7am to 9am (during the week)
• 11am to 11pm (Sleep) then 7am to 11am (during the weekend)

In this role, you will provide vital support to an adult with a Learning Disability impacting on verbal communication and cognitive processing, helping them navigate daily life with dignity and independence. This is more than a job. It is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Experience with following Positive Behaviour Support plans and reflective practice is a must as well as experience working with complex individuals with health needs, traumatic backgrounds and challenging behaviours.

Responsibilities

Your work will include clinical and social care, tailored to each person's needs:

• Implement and adhere to individually tailored Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) plans to understand, prevent, and de-escalate incidents of challenging behaviour.
• Use approved and trained de-escalation techniques to manage situations calmly and safely.
• Challenging behaviour support. Responding with empathy and professionalism.
• Crisis intervention. Providing support during difficult moments.
• Promoting independence. Building confidence and life skills.
• Medication support. Ensuring safe and timely administration.
• Specialist clinical care. Addressing complex needs with expertise and compassion.

• To provide support, and spend therapeutic time with an allocated group of people supported.
• To promote and support the physical health, comfort, wellbeing and recovery of people supported, and to assist them in re-establishing their place in the community, as appropriate.
• To assist Registered Professionals in assessments and care planning/ implementation and evaluation of individualized care plans.

About you:

To be successful in this role you must be caring, have good communication and have the ability to adapting changing health needs. You will be fully flexible so we can continue to support people around the clock.

Due to the nature of the role you will need to have a UK or International manual driving license.

All successful candidates will be required to complete a full induction, which will take place in Chadderton, Oldham (OL9). This is a Nine day induction (Over 3 weeks) and we require all successful applicants to attend all days.

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Sunday on a rota varying between 08:00 - 21:30 which includes 12.5 hour shifts with 1 hour unpaid break, approximately 3 shifts per week. You may need to be flexible on these hours as per service requirements.

About the Role

We're have an exciting opportunity for a Support Coach to join our new Independent Approved Premises (IAP) covering the day shift on a rolling rota. You will play a key role in supporting our residents who have left prison and are based within a residential setting to reintegrate into the community. You will develop and engage with our residents to produce tailored support plans which support their individual needs in successful rehabilitation and reintegration within the community. You will identify their needs, goals and skills, and then support and motivate them to achieve their potential. You will support them in engaging with activities, the community, and provide useful tools and resources for better life skills management. The service holds a strong focus on public protection and effective risk management.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents and participants at all times
• Engaging with residents, ensuring they are adhering to their license conditions. This may include planning activities to engage them with other people, communities, and opportunities
• Be a valued and reliable member of the team, completing handovers for night colleagues for a seamless service
• Building trusting professional relationships with residents, helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations which could be through tailored one to one sessions, group sessions, in and out of service activities, and general wellbeing check ins
• Focusing on empowering our residents to take control over their lives and meet their personal goals

About You

We're looking for someone who has a true passion to help make a difference and contribute to providing safer communities for all. You will be able to work in a fast paced environment, be proactive, and have resilience to challenges. You will thrive working within the team as well as independently, and be comfortable with working with people who have different offending histories. We're looking for someone who can build trust and rapport with others, and has a positive outlook, which can be used to support others. We also look for:

• Ability to manage own caseload and determine priorities with time management. Able to use own initiative
• Experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours or a good understanding of the sector.
• IT Proficiency, ability to learn new software programs, basic Microsoft experience
• Understanding and/or practical application of key legislation regarding social care, housing, criminal justice and mental health
• Cultural awareness, Self-awareness, and ability to identify personal growth areas and take feedback

You will have an understanding of criminal justice settings and will have the ability to build meaningful rapport with others who have multiple and complex needs and backgrounds. We look for adaptability, proactiveness, and confidence within your own skillset and ability to drive meaningful impact. We also look for:

• Understanding of the housing and social needs of people with multiple and complex needs

• Ability to use IT systems to record case notes, email relevant people, and use other software required within the role
