Job Description:
Youth Advantage UK is seeking a volunteer Head of Local Operations to lead the launch and on-going delivery of its commissioned research projects in England and Wales. The focus of these projects will be obtaining and analysing primary and secondary data in order to help smaller community organisations improve their ways of working and effectively report on their impact. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring their teams deliver these projects within the agreed time-scales and in line with the goals agreed with the commissioning organisations, growing Youth Advantage’s reputation and reach.

Working closely with the Departmental Director, the ideal candidate will use their prior experience to effectively contribute to the organisation’s ability to enable evidence-based, positive local change. They should have excellent leadership, writing and speaking skills, IT literacy, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.

This role reports directly to the Director of Local Operations.

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

• Marketing and Brand.
• Fundraising across different income streams, with a particular interest in Corporate, Events, and developing new income streams.

The commitment from you...

Your passion, experience, knowledge (and time).We ask our trustees to commit to a monthly virtual meeting (approx. 1.5 hours), along with a few hours per month to support the staff team and deliver strategic goals. This is a minimum, but often trustees commit to take on additional responsibilities within projects, or within their specialities.

Military Wives Choirs connect over 1700 women in the military community and create a support network through the power of singing.  Our Data and Technology Trustee will contribute strategic advice on how MWC manage their technology and data to be compliant, minimise risks to the organisation and to keep up to date with, and take advantage of, developments in a way that recognises the budget and the scale of the organisation.  Working closely with the Choir Support Team, they will support the long-term sustainability of the charity by providing strategic direction for their data and technology assets and initiatives.  The Trustee will have experience in a broad range of technology leadership roles, understanding of IT procurement, an ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels and able to advise the Board on how it could make ethical use of AI with appropriate safeguards.  The Trustee will attend four Board meetings a year - three are virtual and one, usually in the autumn, is in person.  They will also be required to attend a Board Awayday in January each year, usually in London and attend a Governance Committee meeting, virtually, each quarter.  For further information and how to apply, please read the information pack attached.  The deadline for applications is Friday 22 August.  Interviews will take place via Teams in the w/c 1 September.

Join Us as a Trustee and Help Tackle Food Poverty in Hackney

We are a dynamic, mission-driven charity with a turnover of £1.5 million, working at the heart of East London to address food poverty and support our richly diverse community. Our work is impactful, community-led, and more vital than ever.

We are now seeking two new Trustees to join our dedicated Board.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for individuals who are:

• Passionate about social justice and food insecurity and committed to making a meaningful difference in East London.
• Able to dedicate time for 5 Board meetings per year (including one all-day away day), as well as 4–5 committee meetings annually.
• Willing to engage actively between meetings, contributing to decision-making, strategic guidance, and supporting our staff and volunteers.

We are particularly keen to appoint trustees with expertise in:

• Legal affairs, to help us navigate governance, compliance, and contractual matters.
• Human Resources / Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), to support us in ensuring our organisation reflects and serves our community with integrity and care.

Engagement & Retention

• Partner with the People & Culture team to design programs that boost employee engagement, retention, and belonging.
• Analyse turnover data and exit interviews to identify trends and recommend proactive solutions.
• Champion recognition initiatives that celebrate contributions aligned with QuilomboUK’s mission.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure HR practices comply with employment laws, regulations, and internal equity standards.
• Mitigate organisational risk through robust documentation, audits, and training on HR policies.
• Lead compliance reporting and address gaps proactively.

D&I Integration

• Embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into talent lifecycle processes (e.g., hiring, promotions, succession planning).
• Advise leaders on creating inclusive team environments and addressing systemic inequities.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to advance external social justice partnerships and initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in HR management, with expertise in employee relations, policy development, and team leadership. Prior experience in mission-driven or D&I-focused organisations is a plus.
• Skills:
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
• Proven ability to resolve complex ER cases with diplomacy and cultural sensitivity.
• Excellent stakeholder management, coaching, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in HRIS systems and data-driven decision-making.
• Knowledge: Deep understanding of D&I frameworks, social justice principles, and workforce planning strategies.
• Alignment: Passionate about QuilomboUK’s mission and values, with a track record of advocating for equity.
