Job description

Astrea Academy Trust is seeking Trustees to work with us as we embark on the next phase of our development, pursuing our mission to provide inspiring education to over 14,000 students.

Applications close: 9 a.m. Friday 27th June 2025

Location: Doncaster, Sheffield, Barnsley and Cambridgeshire

Time commitment: Minimum of 20 hours per term

About Astrea Academy Trust

Astrea was founded in 2015 with a mission to provide an education that is inspiring beyond measure and ensures that all Astrea children will learn, thrive and lead successful lives. Within three years, we grew to 26 schools across two regions of the country and four local authority areas.

We have schools across Cambridgeshire and South Yorkshire and these include 18 primaries, 7 secondaries, 1 all-through and 1 specialist provision.

Having initially grown rapidly across multiple regions, we have overcome significant challenges over recent years to reach a position where all of our schools are rated at least ‘Good’ and we have made significant progress in nationally challenging areas like attendance, including making the best progress in reducing persistent absence. This is an exciting time for the Trust, as we look to continue our development by implementing a new 5-year plan.

About the roles

As the Trust moves into its next phase with the launch of the Astrea 2030 strategy, we are looking to recruit up to four Trustees to strengthen, diversify, and advance the actions of the Board.

The new strategy marks the beginning of the third phase in Astrea’s journey, and it is a phase founded on community. Everyone in the Astrea community – professionals, students, parents, governors, local residents, civic and business leaders and others – has a role to play in making our schools the best places anywhere for children to gain the advantage of a brilliant education.

The Astrea 2030 strategy confirms the trust’s commitment to its vision of education and its promise that children will Learn, Thrive and Succeed.

This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to have a life-changing impact on thousands of young people and all those who work so hard to make it happen.

Who we are looking for

With a strong interest in education and a commitment to raising standards, a willingness to commit time and energy to develop an understanding of our schools and our Trust and strategic vision, applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with senior-level experience in the following areas:

  • education leadership or curriculum thinking and development, particularly in a primary setting;
  • public policy;
  • communications (public relations, brand management, advocacy)
  • commercial (project management, procurement, risk management)
  • IT (large-scale system delivery)

A connection with Cambridgeshire or South Yorkshire would also be seen as advantageous.

More than anything else, we are looking for people who are truly motivated and committed to the mission of improving the lives of children in Cambridgeshire and South Yorkshire.

Applications for these roles close at 9 a.m. Friday 27th June 2025.
