About the Organisation

Jigsaw4u is a community charity in South West London that supports children, young people and families to put the pieces back together following complex social and emotional difficulties.

What you will be doing

Jigsaw4u’s Board of Trustees are jointly responsible for:

• The overall governance and strategic direction of the charity.

• Its financial health.

• The probity of its activities.

• Developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

All Trustees should also be aware of, and understand their individual and collective responsibilities, and the Board should not be overly reliant on one or more individual Trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.

We are very lucky to have a Board of varied backgrounds, experience and skill sets and we are looking to add further skill sets and replace those of Trustees who leave when their terms come to an end. It is important that individuals have an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liability of being a Trustee (we can provide further information on those duties and responsibilities).

We particularly welcome applications from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds in order to reflect the diverse nature of our beneficiaries. The young people we work with come from a broad range of backgrounds, including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, young people with mental or physical disabilities, or those experiencing complex issues and low levels of agency.

To best support all the people we work with, our Trustees need to come from a wide range of ages and backgrounds themselves.

At Nottingham Contemporary, we believe in the power of contemporary art to inspire, challenge and bring people together. In particular, we are looking for trustees with expertise in one or more of the below areas:

• Financial Director/Accountant – with strong financial understanding and experience, you will be confident supporting Board members and the Senior Leadership Team with financial decisions and will Chair our Finance and Audit Committee.
• Gallerist/Art Consultant – with substantial experience in the commercial art world. We are especially interested in candidates who have a deep understanding of the art market and its networks and the ability to help strengthen the organisation’s relationships with patrons, collectors, galleries and other stakeholders in the cultural and commercial ecosystem.
• Artist – with strong knowledge of the UK and international arts sector, and an interest and experience working with cultural institutions. Ideally, you will bring knowledge of partnership working within cultural institutions; for example, experience of partnerships between universities or local government bodies, community partners and cultural organisations.
• Commercial or entrepreneurial experience – you will understand how to develop new income streams or commercialise strands of activities, identify cross selling opportunities, strategic partnerships, and advise on how to leverage assets to generate income and create sustainable business models. This role will chair the trading company.

At Healthy Living Platform we make it easier for local communities to lead healthier and more sustainable lives. Using a food ladder model, we focus on the following outcomes:

For a small team of 6 paid staff we have a huge impact, supporting over 2,000 households every week through running the Surplus Food Hub and Pantries, with around 40 volunteers supporting our work including activities generated through our Community Kitchen. We also deliver a range of educational courses through our Food Ambassador programme.

About the Role 

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in the governance and strategic direction of Sense. You will work alongside a diverse and committed Board to ensure the charity continues to deliver high-quality, person-centred support to disabled people with complex needs. 

We are looking to recruit up to four new Trustees to join our Board. The Board meets a minimum of four times a year in person — twice in Birmingham and twice in London — with an annual away day, which may be residential. Meetings are held during the working day and typically last around 6 hours, including breaks. 

In addition to Board meetings, you will also join at least one of the following committees, which meet online four times a year, online, in the lead-up to each Board meeting: 

• Finance and Audit Committee
• Operations Committee
• Engagement Committee
• Nominations and Remuneration Committee 

 As Sense is both a registered charity and a company, Trustees also serve as Company Directors, with names publicly listed at Companies House and the Charity Commission.

Founded in 1997, the Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants provides a place for refugees, migrants, and people seeking asylum to rebuild their life with support and community. From classes to casework to financial assistance, the Centre has a wide offering available for our community of over 200 people. Our approach is compassionate and human and the support we offer is long term - on average people stay with us around four years.

The current Board brings a wide range of charity and public body experience including strategy and fundraising and we are looking for skills to both enhance and complement these strengths.

The Centre has a dedicated and talented staff team led by our CEO, Andy Ruiz Palma, who joined in 2000 as an English teacher. In addition to this staff resource we have around 40 volunteers who provide direct support through activities. We also have in place accountancy support to the executive and a dedicated fundraising team.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a strong empathy with our client group and who understand how to work with organisations rooted in a local community. You will bring excellent people and communication skills and demonstrate good team-working.

We are open to applications from people looking for their first Trustee role or who may not have considered being a Trustee before and will provide mentoring to help trustees find their feet.

We are looking to recruit a deputy treasurer with:

A good understanding of financial management and reporting

A recognised accounting, finance or similar qualification

Ability to analyse and communicate financial information to the wider Board

Willingness to provide financial advice and support to the management team as needed

Knowledge and experience of fundraising finance practice in voluntary and community organisations (desirable)

MenWalkTalk has been developing at a pace and is now looking for new Trustees to help strengthen the Board to continue the growth.

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that MenWalkTalk achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity ensuring that MenWalkTalk has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable MenWalkTalk to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that Trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Duties:

• Support and provide advice on MenWalkTalk’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee MenWalkTalk’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve MenWalkTalk’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to MenWalkTalk’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
• Contribute to regular reviews of MenWalkTalk’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect MenWalkTalk’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
• Contribute to the broader promotion of MenWalkTalk’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

As a small charity, there will be times when the Trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. The ideal candidates will have 3 or more years previous governance experience in the UK charity sector.

Terms of appointment

Terms of office

• Trustees are appointed for a 3 year term of office.
• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment

• Attending 6-9 Board meetings annually. Currently meetings are held remotely each month.
• Attending 2 annual strategy / training days

Committee membership

Membership of at least one of the Trustee committees attending relevant meetings and reporting back to the Board.

Role Title: Treasurer (Trustee)

Remuneration:  Travel and subsistence will be paid for attendance at meetings in accordance with the CoSRH travel and expenses policy. Board members are not remunerated for their Board/Trustee work.

Time Commitment:  Trustees meet four times a year in London and/or virtually. Meetings last approximately three hours.  Trustees and Council meet jointly once per year in London and/or virtually. Meetings last approximately three hours.  The Finance, Risk and Investment Committee meets four times per year virtually. Meetings last approximately two hours.  In addition, Trustees are expected to allow time for reading of papers and preparation for meetings and for occasional events such as the AGM, attending relevant external events/training and induction.

The College of Sexual and Reproductive Health (CoSRH) is seeking an experienced financial professional to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. This is an exceptional opportunity to provide strategic financial leadership and make a meaningful impact on sexual and reproductive health across the UK.

As Treasurer, you will chair our Finance, Risk and Investment Committee and play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial stability, sustainability and growth over the next three years.

We're looking for a qualified finance professional (ACA, CIMA or equivalent) with senior-level experience in audit, investment and strategic financial planning. You'll bring strong governance expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to guide an organisation through growth and change. 

Purpose of the role: 

The overall aim of the Trustee role is to provide strong leadership, direction and expertise to the governance of the CoSRH. 

The Board of Trustees (‘the Board’) is the body with the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of the CoSRH and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.

The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by: 

• Determining organisational strategy 
• Determining organisational statutory policy 
• Ensuring the organisation’s financial stability and sustainability, and agreeing the annual operational budget 
• Appointing the Chief Executive (who is overseen by the Chair of the Board on behalf of the Board) 
• Providing support and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive and their staff team 
• Setting and monitoring procedures for assessing and managing risk 
• Taking advice from members, Council, Committees and from specialist advisors 
• Ensuring good communication between the Board, the Council and the membership, and providing feedback on Board decisions and discussions to these groups 
• Monitoring strategy performance 
• Representing the CoSRH externally where necessary 

As a charity and company limited by guarantee, Board members are charity Trustees and company directors. They do not represent any group or organisation in this role and they must act in good faith and in the best interests of CoSRH and in accordance with the CoSRH Code of Conduct. 

Treasurer 

• Chair the Finance, Risk and Investment Committee (FR&IC) and lead the committee as follows:
• To review progress of financial elements of the strategy and make recommendations thereon to the Board of Trustees.
• To review/consider the strategic plan in context of financial and budgetary impact. 
• To review the annual budget along with any constituent elements including membership pricing and make recommendations to the trustees.

• To agree specific expenditure beyond that in the approved budget of up to £125k.

• To make a virement of budgets of up to £125k

• To keep under review through regular reports the delivery of approved capital projects both from the capital investment as well as the actual compared to the projected returns.

• Advise Remuneration Committee on the affordability of any changes to pay and or benefits.
• To review the CoSRH Board Assurance Framework including mitigations, consider the total risks being carried in light of the risk appetite and undertake regular reviews of the risks by rotation. 
• To receive reports at each meeting on financial performance and report as required to the Trustees 
• To review the draft annual accounts along with the audit report, ensure they are prepared in accordance with relevant accounting standards and Charity Commission guidance and recommend their approval to the Trustees
• To recommend appointment of CoSRH’s external auditors to Trustees and to keep under review the performance of the auditors.
• To review the external auditors’ planning document, their annual findings, report and recommend any required improvements to financial processes. 
• To monitor and review the CoSRH’s pension schemes and make recommendations for change when appropriate.
• To review and approve new Business Cases and oversee delivery of benefits,
• To consider changes to the reserves policy and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.

• To keep under review CoSRH’s Investment Policy including compliance with the ethical investment policy and update as necessary.
• To agree and review the Trustee’s attitude to financial risk and the asset allocation strategy.
• To review at each meeting the performance of CoSRH’s portfolio of investments and to receive regular reports from the Investment Managers.
• To consider changes to investment strategy and make appropriate recommendations to the Board.
• To propose the appointment of external investment managers for CoSRH, if appropriate, and to manage their performance.
• To ensure that all transfers of investment funds between managers are properly authorised by the Board.
• To report to the Board of Trustees on the performance of the investments.

Main duties and responsibilities of a Trustee

Board members are required to:  

• Ensure that the highest standards of corporate governance are observed at all times 
• Establish the overall strategic direction and governance of the CoSRH  
• Approve the budget and business plan for the CoSRH including the costs of Council and its committees 
• Ensure the effective, efficient and appropriate use of resources available to the CoSRH 
• Oversee the delivery of planned results by monitoring and reviewing performance against agreed strategic objectives and targets 
• Ensure that the CoSRH operates within the limits of its objectives and authority 
• Ensure that the CoSRH is accountable to key stakeholders within and outside the health sector 
• Ensure that the CoSRH undertakes its work with due regard to equality and diversity issues 
• Ensure that the CoSRH complies with all relevant legislative and administrative requirements including, but not limited to, company law, charity law, health and safety, data protection and equalities.
• Ensure that an effective risk management system is in place  
• Approve the annual budget  

Board members are expected to: 

• Read all Board and Committee papers in advance of meetings 
• Attend and make constructive contributions to Board and Committee meetings 
• Provide specialist guidance on particular areas where they have expertise 
• Commit to safeguarding the good name and values of the CoSRH  
• Be a champion and ambassador for the CoSRH  
• Abide by all relevant policies and procedures of the CoSRH  
• Agree and adhere to the CoSRH Board of Trustees Code of Conduct.

Person Specification 

Essential Criteria:

• A financial accountancy qualification or equivalent experience (eg ACA, CIMA) 
• Experience of audit, investment, strategic planning and budgetary planning
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team whilst keeping in mind the responsibility of being an individual trustee  
• Experience of guiding an organisation through growth and change  
• An understanding of and commitment to the values expressed in the CoSRH code of good governance  
• Confident and effective communication skills including listening skills  
• A track record of being able to process details quickly and get to the heart of an issue including financial issues  
• Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship 
• Understanding of the role of the Chair of Trustees, CoSRH President and CEO 
• A track record of significant achievement at a senior level in the commercial private, public or not-for-profit sector 
• Experience of board or committee membership in a charity, public sector or commercial organisation

Iprovision is the benevolent fund of The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Iprovision is currently looking for new volunteers to join its Board of Trustees.

You don’t need to be a member of the CIPR to become a Trustee of Iprovision, but you do need to be willing to donate your time – and your understanding of the challenges life can throw at us – to consider the plight of those less fortunate.

The role Iprovision plays in helping members in need is really important. For example, Iprovision provides the funding for the CIPR’s mental health hotline that gives members access to expert advice and online materials. CIPR members coping with stress, with job loss, family illnesses or other challenges can turn to Iprovision for expert advice, counselling and, in many cases, financial support. To mark CIPR’s 75th anniversary we also established an education fund to help people get into the PR profession. We plan to continue with this fund in future years.

As a registered charity, Iprovision is led by its small board of up to 12 volunteer Trustees who consider the applications from CIPR members for support. Based on advice from a professional Support worker – the Trustees make the final decision on the type and level of support to be provided. This might be a straight cash grant, or the Trustees might elect to pay for some training and coaching to help someone get back into employment.

Each applicant for support is presented to the Trustees anonymously, and decisions are taken purely on the facts presented, the situation being experienced, and the types of support that are available.

As a charity, Iprovision depends for its funding purely on the voluntary annual donations that some members pay on top of their CIPR subscriptions, and fundraising activity and events.

The Trustees have a vital role to play – driving awareness of the fund, arranging and supporting fundraising activity, and of course considering applications for support. The Trustees meet four times a year (mix of in person and hybrid meetings) and are responsible for ensuring that the charity manages its funds wisely.

Knowledge, experience and attributes

Charitable Trustees have a general obligation to:

• Act in the charity’s best interests 
• Manage the charity’s resources responsibly 
• Act with reasonable care and skill.

Trustees should understand the purpose and activities of the charity and ensure they are in line and complying with the governance documents (the Memorandum and Articles of Association).

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience or knowledge of:

• Fundraising 
• Governance and charity law 
• Accountancy and financial planning 

Support & Training 

We will provide opportunities for you to learn new skills and grow your expertise as we develop our plans. We encourage a culture of learning amongst our trustees, encourage and support them to develop existing skills, which help you flourish as a trustee on our board.

Benefits 

This is a volunteer role so no material rewards are offered. Benefits are non-material and include experience, the opportunity to contribute, to learn and become part of a dynamic community. You will gain lasting relationships, insight into a benevolent fund, experience of non-executive leadership and the rewards of contribution. We will reimburse out of pocket expenses, including travel to attend any Iprovision meetings. 

Liability

Iprovision is a separate legal entity (it is incorporated) and this acts as a mitigation to any personal liability.

Trustees are elected to serve terms of three years with an expectation that they will serve no more than 2-3 terms of three years.

You could be a trustee for Home-Start Wokingham District, an local charity that gives every child the best possible start in life.

Set up in 1996, we offer “a lifeline”, a free family support service to families with at least one child under the age of five, provided by volunteers who are parents themselves, to support other parents. That home visiting service is unique in Wokingham Borough, providing compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental help and friendship to local parents struggling to cope with the daily challenges of family life.

We are affiliated to national Home-Start UK, but we are an independent local charity responsible for our own governance and securing our own funding.

Our income in 2023/24 was over £100k, and we want to maintain at least that level in order to provide our services.

What we are looking for in an income-generation-focused trustee

Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in supporting parents, and we’d expect new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries. 

We’re looking for strategic focus on our income generation, for a trustee to guide and drive our plans to continue, and increase, our funding streams. You’ll offer support to our Fundraiser and Operations Manager, working with other trustees to develop and track all our income.

You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as support from local charity-support organisations is always available.  Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus specialist support as a new trustee including access to external training.

If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed by our trustees; you’ll also need to be able to work collectively with other Board members.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our charity. We want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups. 

The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.   

We ask for about ten hours per month on average, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc.  You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.

The Role
