Job description

XLP is a youth work charity working to create positive futures for young people in inner London. We deliver holistic long-term youth work with young people aged 11-25 in schools and estate communities. 

XLP’s Sports team works as part of the Communities team, running 21 weekly sports projects using gym sessions and football. The team also run 19 weekly projects on our mobile youth clubs to encourage, motivate and mentor young people towards positive futures. Part of this role is driving the mobile youth clubs.

These mobile youth centres and sports sessions enable a team of experienced youth workers to provide a range of services for young people. Whether table tennis or trivial pursuit, cooking or competitions, games consoles or group discussions, FIFA or Forza, we use our buses to help London’s young people create their positive future. We pride ourselves on being able to provide a safe and consistent environment where young people can grow.

This new role will enable us to grow this work into new communities and extend the number of safe youth spaces we are providing in communities and to increase young people's physical participation in sports and fitness activities.

It is essential the successful candidate will;

  • Have a keen interest in sport;
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven track record of youth work experience in an inner city context;
  • Be over 21 years of age, and hold a clean driving license for a minimum of two years. Bus driver training will be provided;
  • Be a positive role model and understand the need to set a good example for young people;
  • Be an encouraging and patient person;
  • Be happy to travel between multiple locations carrying sports equipment where necessary;
  • Be someone who can think on their feet and likes to try new things to gain new experiences;
  • Be comfortable working on your own;
  • Enjoy taking initiative and be skilled in energising and mobilising volunteers to get the best out of a team.

All XLP staff and volunteers have enhanced DBS disclosures and work within strict child protection guidelines.​
