Community Energy Plus is Cornwall’s energy advice charity. For over 25 years we’ve been helping people to live in warmer, healthier homes, reduce fuel poverty, and transition to a low carbon future. Our work supports some of the most vulnerable households in Cornwall with trusted advice, practical support, and community-based energy solutions.

We are seeking up to three new Trustees to strengthen and diversify our Board. You’ll be joining a small, committed team of trustees providing strategic guidance to ensure the charity remains resilient and impactful as we respond to growing demand and climate urgency.

We’re particularly keen to hear from people with experience in:

• Marketing and communications
• Fundraising and grant funding
• Housing (including housing renewal across tenures)
• Community development and engagement
• Public health, social care or the health sector
• Law (especially renewable energy/low carbon technologies)
• Climate and sustainability (energy transition focus)

Citizens Advice Manchester (CAM) is looking for a Treasurer to join its Trustee Board and play a key role in guiding the organisation’s strategic direction and financial sustainability. CAM is the largest Citizens Advice in the network and one of the largest charities in the North West, delivering information and advice on issues ranging from welfare benefits and debt to energy and consumer rights, both locally and nationally. In 2023, CAM offered direct support to over 50,000 clients with more than 124,000 issues. CAM has a budget of £9.5m and employs over 200 people.

Treasurer – Citizens Advice Manchester

Citizens Advice Manchester (CAM) is one of the largest charities in the North West and the largest within the Citizens Advice network. It provides vital advice and support on issues such as welfare benefits, debt, energy, and consumer rights, both locally and nationally.

The Role

CAM is seeking a Treasurer to join its Board of Trustees and play a key strategic role in overseeing financial governance and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise on the financial implications of CAM’s strategic plans and oversee financial risk management.

• Collaborate with the CEO and Finance Director on the presentation of budgets, management accounts, and annual financial statements.

• Ensure appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place, and that accurate records are maintained.

• Monitor and report on the financial viability of the organisation.

• Maximise the charity’s investments and assets.

• Support the Board in fulfilling its financial responsibilities and improving financial literacy.

• Ensure compliance with contractual and funding requirements to support delivery of charitable outcomes.

• Uphold good governance in line with CAM’s Articles of Association and Charity Commission guidance.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

• A recognised financial qualification or relevant strategic finance experience.

• Proven ability to deal with complex strategic issues and business planning.

• Commitment to CAM’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.

• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Desirable:

• Experience as a Trustee or Treasurer.

• Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector.

Time Commitment

• Approx. 10–12 hours per month.

• Attendance at:

  • Monthly Trustee Board meetings (typically 4.30–6.30 pm).

  • Quarterly Finance, Audit and Risk Committee meetings (Chair role).

  • Annual away days or training sessions (1–2 days per year).

• Additional support to the CAM leadership team as needed.

Term & Transition

The successful candidate will take over from the current Treasurer in September 2025.

As a Trustee, you will play a crucial role in the governance and strategic oversight of the charity, ensuring that we operate effectively, achieve our mission, and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements. Trustees are collectively responsible for safeguarding the charity’s assets, ensuring they are used exclusively to further our objectives, and overseeing the charity’s financial health, including budgets, financial controls, and reporting. Do you have fundraising, communications, HR, IT or other skills and wish to become a trustee of a pioneering and ambitious charity which funds and develops girls’ education in South Sudan?  Friends of Ibba Girls School (FIGS) works to support a girls’ boarding school which provides free high-quality education for over 300 primary and secondary school girls, providing both education and a source of inspiration for the country.  Boarding provides safety and security for girls in a country emerging from war. FIGS works closely with Windle Trust International, a highly experienced UK charity which provides the practical support on the ground in South Sudan. FIGS must raise £400-500k each year to keep the school thriving, while longer-term plans are put in place for greater self-sufficiency within the country. The trustees are both strategic and operational, as the charity only has 2 employees (1.5 FTE). Fundraising skills and experience are particularly sought and the trustee will need to be prepared to give about eight hours a week to the work. Communications is also important and needs about four hours a week.  HR and IT are both valuable skills but do not have particular time requirements. The country’s only dedicated ancient tree charity, the Ancient Tree Forum (ATF), is looking for a new Trustee with Fundraising Experience.

About us – The ATF seeks to secure the long-term future of ancient trees through advocacy of no further avoidable loss, good management, and the development of a succession of future ancient trees. The ATF is needed now more than ever – this is a critical time for ancient trees, the habitats they support and the landscapes in which they can survive and flourish. Their protection is crucial, not least because these living monuments represent a globally important resource, for biodiversity, cultural connection, mental & physical health, carbon capture, and soil conservation.

The profile of the ATF continues to grow, and its expertise is sought at the highest level. We raise awareness and understanding of the value and importance of ancient and veteran trees to biodiversity, soils, landscape, heritage, and climate. We work with a mix of national charities, landowners, land managers, local authorities, and policy makers in national government and offer specialist training, advice, guidance, and outreach projects. 

What we’re looking for – Do you have the ability, empathy and commitment to make a major contribution to the protection of the oldest trees in the country, and all their associated wildlife, history and carbon impact? 

Are you an experienced fundraiser from the environmental or wider charitable sector?

How Do Open Road’s Trustees Support The Charity?

The role of the Trustee is to assist in advancing the purpose of the organisation; developing its aims and goals, keeping within its charitable objectives and acting in its best interests. The board members ensure that the charity is run in accordance with its governing document, charity law, and any other laws and regulations which affect its activities.

Our Trustee Board are responsible for developing strategy, providing governance, and directing the charity towards achieving its mission.  We are looking to appoint two new trustees – the first being from the building and maintenance sector – with the experience and knowledge to support the health and safety responsibilities of a growing charity, and the second being a HR professional who will chair our Personnel Sub Committee with special responsibility for oversight of the organisation’s HR function and strategy, ideally you will be a Chartered Member or Fellow of the CIPD with substantial experience at a Senior/Director HR professional level with a thorough understanding of operational HR policy and practice.

An understanding of the role of charity boards and their responsibilities and operation, gained through previous experience would be helpful, and above all else you will be intrinsically values-driven and committed to enabling more individuals we support to live their lives to the full.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT – Charity Trustee

REMUNERATION:

• This role is unremunerated and offered on a voluntary basis.
• Trustees are encouraged to visit services that are local to them.
• Travel and accommodation expenses are reimbursed for meetings & visits.

 TIME COMMITMENT:

• The time commitment is at least one day a month.
• There are six board meetings a year and this includes an annual strategy setting day.
• Board meetings are held in person in Central London.
• All trustees are expected to participate on at least one committee and there are four committee meetings a year.
• Committee meetings are held in person/virtually.

Key responsibilities:

• To take part in formulating and regularly reviewing the strategic aims of the
• organisation.
• Working with other trustees to ensure that the policy and practices of the organisation
• are in keeping with its aims.
• Working with other trustees to ensure that the organisation functions within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable organisation and strives to achieve best practice.

Hive is a community arts charity in Shipley, Bradford. We deliver arts and crafts courses, workshops and projects from our centre in Shipley and across Bradford District. We believe that creativity contributes to good health and wellbeing and helps to bring communities together.
