At Home-Start Birmingham Central and South-West we are seeking a trustee to contribute their expertise and experience to act as Treasurer to the Scheme. Working with the Scheme Manager to oversee the financial management of the Scheme, you will ensure proper financial recording and effective financial procedures are in place. You will also monitor and report on the financial health of the Scheme and oversee the production of financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.

As a Trustee with Treasury focus, you will liaise with trustees and relevant staff, in particular, the Scheme Manager, to oversee the financial viability of the Scheme, make fellow trustees aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them. The role will also be responsible for:

· Ongoing reporting of the Scheme's financial position at Trustee meetings;

Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children ad young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together.  The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development.

As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might:

• support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development

Availability and commitment

What will you be doing?

You will join us at an exciting time as we pursue growth of fostering and residential services, as well as growth of our early help offer.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Strategic Leadership: Work closely with the Chairperson and other trustees to provide strategic direction and oversee the implementation of the Foundation’s mission, vision, and values. 

• Governance and Oversight: Ensure that the Foundation complies with all legal and regulatory requirements and uphold the highest standards of governance. This includes financial oversight and reviewing organisational performance.

• Collaboration and Support: Engage with staff, volunteers, and the community to support the delivery of services and activities. 

Skills and Experience: 

• Experience in Governance: Previous experience in a trustee or non-profit governance role is highly desirable, although not essential. 

• Commitment to the Mission: A passion for improving the lives of individuals living with neurological tremors and a commitment to the mission of the National Tremor Foundation. 

• Skills in Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. The ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders. 

• Financial Acumen: Experience with financial oversight and the ability to understand budgets and financial statements. 

• Fundraising or Advocacy Experience: Experience in fundraising, marketing, or advocacy would be beneficial but is not essential. 

• Personal Qualities: A collaborative and solution-oriented approach, with a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and empathy for those affected by tremor conditions. 

• Medical Knowledge: Having a medical background would be advantageous for this role, especially someone that is aware of the current care pathways and treatment options for neurological tremors.

Time Commitment: 

Trustees are expected to attend at least four Board meetings per year (approximately 2 hours each), plus additional time for fundraising activities and events. Trustees will also be required to attend our annual conference and other ad-hoc meetings as necessary. Trustees are also expected to take on a portfolio lead and provide support to the General Manager to deliver on this. 

Term: 

Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment for a further term. 

RMC seek to appoint 2 experienced people to join our Board. We welcome applications from individuals who in addition to relevant governance experience, may have experience of finances, employment law, communications, fundraising etc.

The Refugee and Migrant Centre (RMC) is a well-established, award winning regional charity, renowned for its work with refugees & migrants. RMC operate across Birmingham and the Black Country and have a very broad remit and extremely varied service user base. We have 5 offices across our area of operation, over a hundred staff and dozens of volunteers

The ideal candidates would have considerable experience in similar roles, have in depth understanding of charity boards/governance and be sympathetic to our ethos and values. 

For these non-remunerated, voluntary roles, we would ask that you dedicate time to attend 7-8 board meetings annually as well as social events, celebrations etc.
