Trees for Cities is an independent national charity that engages local people and volunteers to plant, protect and promote trees in towns and cities worldwide. In a world facing unprecedented threats from climate change, loss of biodiversity, and disconnection from nature, our work has never been more urgent or important.
The charity has seen significant growth and development over recent years, with expansion of our Trees for Streets, Trees for Schools and Trees for Neighbourhoods programmes in towns and cities across the UK. It is imperative that the Charity continues to evolve as we move towards a new strategic phase (2025-30), with the strategic goal to create a movement for urban trees and tree equity.
We currently seek a Trustee with fundraising expertise to join our Board. This is a new role and an exciting opportunity to support the charity as we embark on our new strategic ambition to take a prominent, influential and leading role in urban forestry. We are particularly looking for someone with senior-level strategic experience and networks in corporate and grant fundraising.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The trustee will maintain an overview of Trees for Cities’ fundraising strategy. The trustee will work closely with the Board and Executive Team, particularly the Chief Executive and Fundraising Director, to support the charity in pursuing its vision and mission and achieving its agreed objectives. In addition to the skills, experience and qualities required of all Trustees, this trustee will have significant senior-level experience of fundraising strategy, policy and regulations as outlined in the person specification.

About Youth ESOL:
Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to young people at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling young people to do well at school or college.
About the Role:
- CARAS is looking for Reading Group Volunteer to support our face-to-face study programme for young people.
- The reading group is in Tooting and is an important element of a study programme for young people aged 14 to 18 who are out of formal education.
- Students will be supported to read at length and complete challenges that are adapted to their ability level.
- The reading group aims to foster independence and a joy of reading among the young people and requires volunteers to learn about the young peoples' interests in order to help them select an appropriate text.
- The ESOL teacher will provide volunteers with tips to support reading and understanding for emerging learners of English, such as phonics and elicitation strategies.
- Volunteers will work with 1-5 students, mostly reading out loud with them or helping them to decode unfamiliar language.
- Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within the Reading Group sessions;

Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

Contributing to debriefs to inform the ESOL teacher how each student found the lesson/task and the students’ areas of greatest challenge and success;

About Jabalie
Jabalie is a UK registered charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence. Our vision is a world in which people of all genders are economically empowered, free from violence and abuse, and lead full lives with freedom and autonomy.
We are currently developing an education and empowerment programme for survivors of gender-based violence, to be delivered in the UK and Kenya.
Our name is derived from the word “Jabali” meaning “strong as a rock” in Swahili, symbolising the strength of all those we work with.
Role description
The Board of Trustees plays a vital role in making sure that Jabalie achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Jabalie has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
As a small and newly registered charity, our Trustees have an active role in the organisation relating to their area of expertise, beyond the Board meetings.
General Trustee Duties
The duties of a Trustee include:
- Attending and contributing at quarterly Trustee Board meetings.
- Ensuring that Jabalie pursues its stated objectives (purposes) defined in its Constitution, including helping to develop a long-term strategy to achieve them.
- Ensuring that Jabalie complies with its governing rules laid out in its Constitution.
- Ensuring that Jabalie complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring the financial stability of Jabalie.
Philanthropy and Development
In addition to the general duties of a Trustee, duties of the Philanthropy and Development Trustee include the following:
- Developing and overseeing fundraising strategy with action plans, ensuring they align with Jabalie’s strategic goals and financial needs.
- Cultivating relationships with donors, funders, and key stakeholders to secure financial support and long-term commitments.
- Identifying opportunities to collaborate with businesses, foundations, and institutions for sponsorships, grants, and major gifts.
- Managing and maintaining data and information on potential opportunities and relationships for generating funds in a systematic way, such as using a CRM system.
- Working with the Marketing and Communications Trustee in developing initiatives and campaigns for fundraising and generating donations.
- Managing the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives, events and campaigns to engage the community and attract new supporters.
- Working with the Strategy and Impact Analysis Trustee in establishing and overseeing impact evaluation and performance metrics in alignment of funders’ requirements.
- Evaluating the level of success of the fundraising and donor engagement efforts, and providing feedback and data analysis that could shape future initiatives, events and campaigns.
- Ensuring fundraising efforts comply with relevant regulations and ethical standards, maintaining transparency and accountability.
- Acting as an ambassador for Jabalie, championing its mission and fostering philanthropic support through networking and public speaking (as required).

ShowerBox is a registered charity that has been providing free and secure showers as well as toiletries and supplies, warm drinks, snacks and haircuts to individuals facing homelessness since 2018. Our mission is to enhance our guests’ sense of physical well-being and dignity, help combat social isolation, and provide access to other essential resources such as health clinics and mobile libraries. Learning of individuals having passed away from preventable illnesses on the streets due to an inability to get clean and the social stigma associated with poor personal hygiene, Sarah Lamptey (our CEO) started offering weekly showers in St. Giles churchyard in Soho, London, from 2019. ShowerBox became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2021 and since then has been expanding nationally. Now, we operate in multiple sites – Central London, Birmingham, and Barking – either independently or in partnership. Central London remains our biggest site, followed by Birmingham and Barking, and we are in initial discussion with others. We receive our funds through philanthropy – currently supported by National Lottery Community Fund, Vitol Foundation, HS2, amongst others.

Citizens Advice Richmond is a local charity that has helped the people of Richmond since 1940. They offer generalist advice on any issue and specialist debt advice. Citizens Advice Richmond is a member of the national Citizens Advice service, a network of around 300 local advice centres.
The role: What will you do?
● Complete an induction for your role.
● Maintain an awareness of how the local Citizens Advice is operating.
● Plan the board meetings, including the dates and the agenda, with the Company/Charity Secretary and the Chief Officer.
● Read papers for board meetings and attend six board meetings per year.
● Facilitate the trustee board meetings by leading the meeting, ensuring that agenda items are discussed, enabling all members to contribute their views and take part, and seeking clarification where necessary.
● Ensure that decisions and actions taken at board meetings are carried out.
● Ensure that the board decisions are made within the remit of the Citizens Advice membership agreement, governing documents, and policies.
● Monitor attendance and commitment of all trustees.
● Provide or arrange training or support for trustees if needed.
● With other trustees and the Chief Officer, recruit a trustee board with a diverse range of skills, experience, and knowledge, with an aim to promote trusteeship to underrepresented groups that represent the community.
● Ensure that all trustees receive an induction and the training needed for them to fulfil their role.
● Be proactive in recruiting successors to key positions such as Chair, Treasurer, etc.
● Arrange or provide support and supervision for the Chief Officer, including an annual appraisal.
● Together with the Treasurer, ensure proper management and control of local Citizens Advice finances.
● Together with the Chief Officer, represent the local Citizens Advice in relationships with funders or potential funders, at local events, and in the community.
● Work together with all trustees to ensure that the board can:
♦ Set policy and strategy direction, set targets, and evaluate the performance of Citizens Advice Richmond.
♦ Monitor the financial position of Citizens Advice Richmond, ensuring that it operates within its means and objectives, and ensuring there are clear lines of accountability for day-to-day financial management.
♦ Monitor whether Citizens Advice Richmond complies with its governing document and meets the required standards.
♦ Seek the views of all sections of the community and monitor how well the service meets the needs of the local community.
♦ Ensure the service plans for the recruitment and turnover of staff and volunteers.
♦ Review their own work and how effectively they operate, including action for improvement.
♦ Work on specific projects to further the strategic objectives of Citizens Advice Richmond.

You’ll need to:
● Understand the type of work undertaken by a local Citizens Advice.
● Understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees.

● Be able to facilitate and lead meetings.
● Have good interpersonal skills.
● Have good listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
● Be able to exercise good independent judgment.
● Have good numeracy skills to understand accounts with the support of the Treasurer.
● Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles, and policies, including confidentiality and data protection.
● Be willing to undertake training in your role.
How much time do you need to give?
You will need up to one day a week for the regular activities, but this will vary. Trustee boards usually meet in the evenings, and you’ll likely need to give 12-15 hours per year to attend these. Sub-committees meet quarterly and a further 4-6 hours per year are required for these.

- Experience of governance matters, or legal issues
- Experience within environmental sustainability matters

A charity based in Croydon, Surrey, London, UK is looking for volunteer Charity Team Assistants; to volunteer 30 unpaid hours per week. The Charity serves a multi ethnic community especially people from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds.

Trees for Cities is an independent national charity that engages local people and volunteers to plant, protect and promote trees in towns and cities worldwide. We cultivate lasting change in urban neighbourhoods by revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier places, and getting people involved in their local environments. In a world facing unprecedented threats from climate change, loss of biodiversity, and disconnection from nature, our work has never been more urgent or important.
The charity has seen significant growth and development over recent years, with expansion of our Trees for Streets, Trees for Schools and Trees for Neighbourhoods programmes in towns and cities across the UK. We currently seek a Trustee with marketing and individual giving expertise to join our Board. This is a replacement role to succeed a trustee who is stepping down from the Board in September at the end of their second term. ABOUT THE ROLE
The trustee will maintain an overview of Trees for Cities’ marketing and IG strategy. The trustee will work closely with the Board and Executive Team, particularly the Chief Executive and Engagement & Marketing Director, to support the charity in pursuing its vision and mission and achieving its agreed objectives. In addition to the skills, experience and qualities required of all Trustees, this trustee will have significant senior-level experience of marketing and IG strategy, policy and regulations as outlined in the person specification.
