Retail & Furniture Assembly Volunteers - A New Volunteer Opportunity in Acorns Children's Hospice Superstore in Pershore
Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families.
To help us to continue to provide the care that we do, we are looking for fun and enthusiastic volunteers to join us in our Pershore Superstore. Our shops are exciting and dynamic, with no two days being the same. From our walk-in customers, to receiving donations, and everything in between. The store is open - Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
What does volunteering involve?
Shop Volunteer
- Engaging with customers
- Accepting and sorting donated stock
- Pricing donations for sale
- Working on the till
Furniture Assembly Volunteer
- Building and dismantling flat pack furniture
- Working within timeframes for customer assembly requests
- Flagging defects or spare parts needed when constructing furniture
- Carrying out minor repairs on donated goods
How much time will it take?
The shop will be open Monday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’d like you to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week.

The Kindness Charity Shop is part of Calder Community Cares (Registered Charity No. 1210837), a local charity based in Hebden Bridge, Calderdale. We work to support people in need across the Upper Calder Valley by providing food vouchers, essential items, and practical help.
Our mission is simple: Kindness in Action.

Branch Trustee - Retail and Income Generation
RSPCA Milton Keynes & North Bucks Branch
We need volunteers who have expertise in retail operations and income generation to help us maximise the revenue generated in our charity shops. You will gain new skills and experience as a Branch Trustee whilst enabling us to help more animals.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person, with a background in retail operations and income generation, who could devote their time to volunteer as a trustee for our Branch and support us in maximising the revenue generated from our charity shops. You will be joining a team of 4 trustee's, expanding to 7.
Alongside passing on your expertise, this opportunity will give you the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals and drive the implementation of key initiatives. You will serve on the governing body of the charity and be instrumental, alongside fellow trustees, in the running of the Branch and setting out both the short and long term aims.
As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, the commitment may vary depending on whether or not the trustee takes on additional duties.
Primary responsibilities of the Branch Trustee – Retail and Income Generation
• Assist the Branch Manager in maximising the profitability of the Branch’s three charity shops.
• Work with the Branch Manager to explore any potential for expanding the retail operation by researching the potential for further charity shops.
• Support the Branch Manager in establishing the Branch’s e-commerce operation via online sales platforms such as eBay.
• Work with other trustees, the Branch health and safety provider and the Branch Manager to ensure the charity shops meet health and safety standards.
• Explore other ways to generate income for the Branch and work closely with the Branch Manager to put these ideas into action.
What we are looking for in a volunteer:

Alongside retail operations and income generation experience, we are looking for someone who is committed to the RSPCA’s charitable objectives and shares our passion for animal welfare. You would be creative, innovative, bring a fresh perspective, and can put ideas into action.
You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert although commitment, common sense, and the ability to be objective are vital.

What is the purpose of this role? To help with collections and deliveries of furniture, and transfer of stock between our shop in Sutton in Ashfield and our storage unit at Ransom Wood.
What impact does this role have? This role helps the shops to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.
What activities might you be involved in?
· Travelling with the driver to pick up donated items (furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing, or a mix of all 4)
· Completing deliveries with the driver to customers’ homes
· Processing items at Ransom Wood storage unit when there is no room to deposit them straight into the shop.
· Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
· The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks
· A willingness to complete a variety of tasks both at the shop and at the Ransom Wood storage unit.
· An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The Sutton Shop is open Monday – Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and we are looking for individuals to support on one day each week (to be discussed and agreed following a successful interview).
What training will you be given?
You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough induction.

What is the purpose of this role?
Supporting staff to manage the stockroom at the shop in Sutton in Ashfield.
What impact does this role have?
This role helps the shops to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.
What activities might you be involved in?
· Supporting staff to manage the stock room within the Sutton shop.
· Keeping racking clean and tidy.
· Organising space to maintain good health and safety systems.
· Accepting donations from supporters that visit the shop and encouraging those who are taxpayers to sign up to Gift Aid to increase the value of the donation when sold by 25%.
· Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
· The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks.
· A willingness to complete a variety of tasks.
· An ability to get on well with others and to volunteer as part of a team
· An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The Sutton Shop is open Monday – Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and we are looking for individuals to support on one day each week (to be discussed and agreed following a successful interview).
What training will you be given?
You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough induction.

Our amazing team of vibrant & diverse volunteers helps us run over 600 shops. Our stores sell lots of great donated & new goods to help raise vital funds to make a real difference to disadvantaged children, young people and families across the UK.
Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!
Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s.
You will be a friendly face of Barnardo’s by volunteering in one of our shops. It would be great if you could volunteer one shift a week (or even more if you want) but we’re always happy to be flexible to work around your availability.
