We’re Mind, the leading mental health charity. We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness, and promote understanding.

Our volunteers are a fundamental part of our shops. Any time which they volunteer at our shops, help us be there for more people who are experiencing a mental health problem. 

About the volunteer role

To provide our volunteers with opportunities to gain a variety of skills and experience, we offer them a range of volunteer roles to choose from, which include:

• Stock preparation volunteer
• Volunteer shop sales assistant
• Volunteer stock generation assistant
• Volunteer window dresser/Merchandiser
• Specialist knowledge volunteer (antiques and collectables)
• Specialist knowledge volunteer (books and entertainment)
• Housekeeping volunteer

Key tasks

There is a variety of tasks within the above mentioned roles that our volunteers get involved with, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers with their purchases, providing them with great customer service and a delightful shopping experience
• Receiving donated items from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated items for sale
• Creating visually appealing window and in-store displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, clean and coordinated
• Processing sales and serving at the till
• Signing up gift aid donors
• Stock rotation
• Identifying special or valuable items within donated stock

As our local group Support Volunteer you’ll help people affected by MS find information about local and national services. In this role you’ll be able to develop your listening and communication skills, as well as your knowledge of local services. Most importantly you’ll help people affected by MS to access the help they need.

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Dumfries and Galloway group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills.

Treasurer vacancy at the Gender and Development Network   

GADN brings together NGOs, consultants, academics, and activists committed to advancing women’s and girls’ rights, gender equality, and decolonised international development. Our vision is a world where social justice and gender equality prevail, and all women and girls can realise their rights free from discrimination.

We are now recruiting a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees — a vital leadership role in the financial governance and future direction of our dynamic feminist network. Together with the Co-Chairs, the Treasurer is one of the Officers of the Board, a role which you can hold for a maximum of two 2-year terms. Trustees may serve a maximum of two 3-year terms. 

As we continue working to decolonise our practice and build an anti-racist organisation, we actively welcome applications from Black women and Women of Colour who we recognise are under-represented in decision-making spaces in the UK international development sector.

About the role

As Treasurer, you will:

• Maintain strategic oversight of GADN’s financial affairs on behalf of the Board.
• Provide expert advice to Trustees and the Secretariat on financial planning and stewardship.
• Work closely with the Co-Directors and Secretariat to ensure sound financial systems and decision-making.
• Support the preparation of budgets, accounts, and key legal reporting.

This is a voluntary position requiring approximately 3 days per quarter, including an in-person meeting in London.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking someone with:

• Experience in financial oversight, budgeting, and/or charity finance.
• Strong accountancy or numeracy skills and the ability to communicate financial matters clearly.
• A commitment to GADN’s values, including gender equality, anti-racism, and decolonisation.

Experience in the international development or women’s rights sector is desirable, but not essential.

The difference you will make to cats and people

Our social media volunteers use their passion and knowledge of social media to promote the activities of local volunteer teams though various channels. They directly help cats by raising awareness of Cats Protection. A higher profile can help us raise the funds we need for our work, ensure people know they can adopt a cat from us, help promote neutering and help as many people as possible learn more about feline welfare.

What we need from you

You'll be:

• Scheduling and posting social media content
• Monitoring activity and responding to comments on social media channels

Time expectation

Our social media volunteers can expect to spend between two to five hours per week in this role. This role is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
