As a Trustee at NSDAS with a focus on the Treasurer role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the financial stability and integrity of the charity. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees CEO and Finance Manager to oversee the financial management of the charity, providing strategic guidance and ensuring compliance with certain regulatory requirements.

The role of the Treasurer 

·Oversee the charity’s financial management and reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability.

·Work closely with the CEO and Board to develop a long-term financial strategy.

·Ensure compliance with charity finance regulations and best practices.

·Contribute to financial reports to the Board, making complex information accessible and actionable.

·Manage and review the work of the Finance Manager.

North Surrey Domestic Abuse Service (NSDAS) supports anyone affected by domestic abuse and their children living in the boroughs of Elmbridge, Spelthorne and Epsom and Ewell. We provide free, confidential and independent advice, skilled practical help and ongoing emotional support and information, regardless of sex, race, ability, gender, religion or income level.

Professionals Aid Guild (PAG) is seeking a new Trustee to join a well-established charity based in London to assist with ongoing and future strategic development. A background in Education or Social Welfare would be desirable.

Using your experience, skills and knowledge, as Trustee you will be;

• Contributing actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation,
• Setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
• Protecting and managing the property of the organisation and ensuring the proper investment of the organisation's funds.
• Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
• Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its “corporate” behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Acting as guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application.
• Ensuring that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.

We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with a background in IT, Education or Welfare; however a general interest in the relief of poverty is important. A successful applicant would be decisive, responsible, good at networking and passionate about delivering and developing the aims of the charity. Our Trustees play a vital role in the work of the charity and have a high degree of responsibility. The charity processes confidential information about our applicants and so an awareness of data protection regulation would be useful.

As a Trustee for PAG you will make a difference to professionals throughout UK.  Examples of our beneficiaries could include a family struggling to afford school uniforms for their children, a cancer sufferer who has had to give up work and is struggling to manage financially, a medical student whose funding has failed, or a single parent who has moved to a new home and needs assistance with the cost of furniture – these are all areas in which PAG has assisted and continues to assist.

Some case studies below demonstrate the real impact that the charity has;

1. Mrs B accumulated large debts when she lost her job and was unable to obtain further loan or credit.  She was awarded a one-off gift of £500 towards travel for the final year of her MSc/Diploma from PAG’s Education Committee. Mrs B wrote “I am lost for words to express my gratitude for the received cheque. I would like to say thank you for helping me to every person involved. It will truly make a big difference to my life.”
2. Ms E left the family home due to domestic violence and subsequently divorced, she has one son, who is in employment and who contributes to the household income, and one daughter, who is at school. Mrs E is not currently employed; she has completed a Diploma and hopes to find paid employment soon. She was awarded a grant by the Case Committee and a further award for her daughter’s education from the Education Committee. Ms E wrote “I just wanted to thank you all for helping my family and I. I truly feel grateful and supported by PAG. I really don’t know how I would have coped over the years with so many different events that have happened to in my life. Thank you once again.”

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Welcome from Chair

Welcome to Action Duchenne. I became Chair of the Charity in January 2025. By background, I am a retired GP and NHS Leader, and my grandson Sebastian has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The Charity has been going through a period of significant change, as our previous CEO has moved on and several of our Trustees have retired. It has given us the opportunity to review and refresh our focus and our ways of working together.

We have also recently been awarded significant funding from the National Lottery over the next three years to develop and expand our All Through Support programme. The programme offers tailored support to families over years as they navigate the different challenges Duchenne brings and aims to travel alongside them throughout their journeys. No other statutory or charitable organisation is able to offer this level of support.

We want to expand and develop the Trustee Board to harness a wider set of skills, expertise and experience that will enrich the charity as we go forward. It is an exciting time to join us, and to be part of something that makes a real and tangible difference.

Background and Direction

Action Duchenne is a charity providing holistic support to those living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Duchenne) and their families. Our core activities involve bringing people together to share their experiences and learn from one another, increasing awareness of Duchenne, and bringing together families, Clinicians and pharmaceutical companies to increase understanding of the needs of those living with Duchenne. We provide support for families from the moment of diagnosis through their whole Duchenne journey.

We have been through a period of change and development, and are now looking to expand our Trustee Board with people with the following skills:

• Finance (a Treasurer role is available)

• Charity Governance

• Fundraising

• Legal 

We have recently been awarded significant funding from the National Lottery, which is enabling us to develop and increase the reach of our programmes. 

Trustee Role and Person Specification

The Trustees of Action Duchenne are pivotal roles, providing oversight and ensuring legal compliance. Board members are each expected to actively participate in quarterly meetings, and in turn are expected to dedicate sufficient time to the role.

The Trustees appointed will become Directors of the Company limited by guarantee (no. 04899036) and a Trustee of the registered charity (no. 1101971), and therefore need to be eligible to take on these roles.

All Trustees must 

• ensure that the charity is carrying out its purpose for the public benefit

• Comply with governing documents and the law

• Act in the charity’s best interests

• Manage the charity’s resources responsibly

• Act with reasonable care and skill, and

• Ensure the charity is accountable.

The Trustee role is voluntary and unpaid, but reasonable expenses will be met.

The majority of formal meetings are conducted remotely through emails and conference calls, with bi-annual away days.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must clearly demonstrate:

• A strong commitment to the holistic approach of support

• Relevant skills and experience drawn from a professional background

• A willingness to devote time to the governance of Action Duchenne, including preparing for and attending Board meetings and Away Days

• Emotional intelligence to understand the physical, mental, social and emotional challenges facing those living with Duchenne

• An understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities associated with trusteeship, or the willingness and ability to acquire this

• Strong independent judgement and the ability to constructively challenge ideas on the Board and with the CEO

• Proven ability to work creatively and strategically in a Trustee or Board setting.

• Strong communication and analytical skills

Skills

Action Duchenne is looking for new Board members with a wide range of skills; please note these are a few areas of focus, but we are also looking for general Trustees, so please apply as we are looking to grow the Board in a number of ways.

• Finance experience and skills

• Governance experience and skills developed through time on a Charity Board

• Fundraising experience and expertise, with evidence of success across different income streams

Lived experience/diversity

The Board currently has a majority of Trustees with lived experience of Duchenne, and therefore in this instance, we are looking for those without personal experience. If there is a reason relating to accessibility or diversity in which you feel you can’t apply for this role, please contact us for a chat before making your application.

Time Commitment

The Trustees currently meet monthly, and aim to move to quarterly meetings. For each meeting, there is an expectation of pre-reading and preparation, and where there is capacity and appropriate expertise, Trustees can advise on their anticipated standards relating to areas of work (safeguarding, fundraising, HR, for example).

The anticipated time commitment is likely to be 4-8 hours a month, with the away days in addition to this.

A trial period of six months is offered, to ensure the fit works for both the new Trustee and the Board, and a maximum term of three years, with the opportunity to be re-elected once, to serve for a total of two terms - six years.

Reducing the Risk is an Oxfordshire-based charity. We work locally, regionally and nationally to empower professionals, volunteers and communities who support victim-survivors of domestic abuse.

What will you be doing?

The Treasurer plays a crucial role in maintaining the financial integrity of Reducing the Risk. This role involves overseeing the charity's financial affairs, ensuring financial viability, and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. The Treasurer provides strategic financial guidance to the Board of Trustees and supports the charity's mission through sound financial management.

Time commitment: 

• Estimated on average 1 day a month, with an expected increased time commitment at Year End and the Annual Return months. Initially, the time commitment will be slightly higher whilst you settle into the role and complete our induction. 
• Board meetings: 4 board meetings and 4 committee meetings a year
• Meetings may be in person or online and timings are agreed by those involved

What are we looking for?

Essential:

• A strong background in financial management, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
• Understanding of SORP requirements and charity law, or willingness to undertake necessary training.
• Experience in financial planning and budget management.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
• Commitment to the mission and values of Reducing the Risk.
• Commitment to developing a knowledge of Charity Finance regulations and practices (guidance will be provided)

Desirable:

• Previous experience as a Treasurer or in a similar role within a charity.
• Experience with financial software and systems used by charities.

The Trans Learning Partnership (TLP) is in the process of evolving into a new, independent charity: the Trans Research Partnership (TRP). This transition will be completed by the end of 2025. As part of this transition, we’re recruiting up to five founding trustees to help shape the future of TRP.

Join a vibrant Yorkshire-based countryside charity helping disabled people to get 'Out There Together'.

Since 1990, Open Country has been helping people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside. The voluntary role of Treasurer is a crucial role in helping us manage our finances responsibly and sustainably. You will serve as a Trustee of the Charity and a Director of the Limited Company, helping us to make informed decisions to allow us to perform our inspirational work.

We have a part-time Finance Officer and use a local firm of book-keepers to prepare our monthly management accounts using Paxton software. Payroll issues are dealt with using the services of another third party. Thus, your input will be primarily at a governance level rather than one of financial administration.

We seek someone with the following attributes:

- Ability to analyse financial data and assess their financial impact on our charity.

- A great teamwork ethic and willingness to work collaboratively with other Board members and staff.

- Previous financial experience, ideally in the charity sector.

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone
