Using your knowledge of the Education Sector you will build strong partnerships with schools and colleges to deliver nutrition and lifestyle based interventions that inspire children and young adults to eat more real and natural food!
What will you be doing?
In this immensely important and pivotal role within CFK you will:
- Build a team of like-minded volunteers who have a good understanding of the education sector including how schools run, the curriculum and the most effective ways of educating and inspiring children and their families
- Lead and inspire your team to design, refine and deliver inspiring interventions
- Design and develop strategies to support the achievement of the CFK project goals
- Lead the design, delivery and implementation of interventions within school settings
- Build strong relationships with current and potential intervention sites (i.e. schools), strategic partners and other CFK Teams
What are we looking for?
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience working with children, educators / teachers and parents in school settings
- A clear and visible passion for improving the health and wellbeing of children through nutrition and lifestyle
- Some formal training in working with children, for example as teacher, Head Teacher, teaching assistant, educationalist, health/sport coach
- Strong management and leadership experience and skills
- A natural ability to inspire others
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage projects effectively
- Articulate written, visual and verbal communicator - fluency in English is essential
- Experience and interest in working with authorities (ideal but not essential)
As a team of volunteers, we are ever so grateful to everyone who agrees to contribute some of their valuable time to the project. As a Team Leader we ask for a commitment of 5-6 hours per week (on average).
All are voluntary positions with no remuneration offered other than what we hope will be a huge amount of job satisfaction and fun, working with like-minded people with a passion for making a real difference to future generations.

We are looking for people to join our youth team to help us expand the delivery of SJA's youth programme, particularly our Cadet (10-17 years) members. We currenly have a Unit which meets on Tuesday evenings but we are hoping to be able to open a new Unit on Monday evenings.
Need to be able to attend the majority of our youth unit meetings which take place on Monday and/or Tuesday evenings. The wider Network also has a monthly update meeting on Monday evenings which all members need to attend.

The mentoring project at Esteem invites members of the community to share their skills and experience by mentoring a young person with similar interests.
Mentoring is an important part of our organisation and runs alongside Work Experience opportunities, providing tailored volunteer opportunities to young people aged 14-26, social activities and wellbeing support. Creating space for young adults to thrive within their lives and communities.
Role Purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young people the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole.
You can make a difference by mentoring 14-26 year olds who are developing or discovering their potential.
The mentors’ role is to support young people reach their next step focusing on their vocational development and encouraging progression into or maintaining Education, Employment or Training. The profile of many of Esteem’s young adults is that they have low levels of confidence and may be quite anxious; some young people may be neurodiverse including have a history of mental health problems, they also may have faced homelessness and other life affecting issues including the effects of long term unemployment

You will be based at Esteem’s Shoreham office but may meet your mentee in a public place such as a coffee shop, if that is what you both prefer and meets safeguarding requirements.

You will be skills matched with a young person who will have similar interests, experience or an interest in your professional field. You will support your mentee by identifying and highlighting their skills and establishing realistic and achievable goals by breaking them down into manageable steps.

You will enter notes onto our database system UpShot after each meeting with your mentee and will be asked to fill in an outcome form at the conclusion of your mentoring relationship.
Principal tasks and responsibilities

To meet with your mentee regularly (once a week or once a fortnight) at a convenient time for you both either at the Esteem’s office or in a public place like a cafe.

To offer ongoing vocational support to your mentee and support them to access services (such as in-house Counselling or from external organisations) if they need help with any issues they are dealing with.

To support your mentee through their vocational setting, either volunteering at Esteem or within their personal, work or educational setting.

To offer positive feedback and aim to build self-confidence with your mentee.

To keep up to date notes of your meetings.

Complete regular reviews with the mentee and create a clear action plan if appropriate.

Attend all relevant training to your role.

To report any safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Team.

To maintain the required level of confidentiality in all tasks and communications.

Person Specification
Experience
For this round of recruitment we are looking primarily for those who work in the creative industry and those who may have started their own business and/or have an entrepreneurial background. That being said, we are more than happy to accept applications from those who feel they have other skills and experience that could benefit young adults.
Whilst some experience of mentoring or supporting young adults would be helpful this is something we will cover in the day’s training.

The Vacancy
We are excited to announce that we are looking to appoint a new Trustee Treasurer to our well-established Board.
This vacancy has arisen as our existing Treasurer is progressing to a new position within the Charity Board and we are, therefore, seeking the ideal candidate to fill this position.
As our Treasurer, in addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, your role will be to maintain an overview of the organisation’s financial affairs to ensure its financial viability, keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities, and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are implemented and maintained by the executive.
You’ll also build a strong relationship with our Finance Director, supporting in providing guidance as required.
The Treasurer provides invaluable support not only to our main Charity Board but also as the Chair of the Finance and Risk committee.
Qualifications/Experience:
Proven experience of operating at a Strategic Level, ideally as a Finance Director or similar.
Charity finance experience or understanding advantageous but not essential.
Application of sound judgement and collaboration with others is key to the success of this role.
Terms of office
- Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office, renewal for one further term to a maximum of six years.
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Time commitment
- Attending four Board meetings annually.
- Attending annual strategy and training days.
Committee membership
You will be required to attend two other committees in addition to the mainboard. This will require attendance at an additional 8 meetings annually.

They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, ensure that the charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. You will join a dedicated and skilled group of Trustees and support the charity through a significant period of growth. Our staff team now includes over 150 skilled and passionate women across our programmes and our 10 womens’ centres in London and the South and East of England.
Time commitment
- Five Board meetings per year (in person in Hammersmith west London), plus membership of at least one board sub-committee (four meetings a year online)
- Ad hoc availability as matters arise (by telephone)
- Participate in one strategy away day each year (on a Saturday, usually held in January)
- Commit to the Board of Trustees for at least three years
- Note - the Chair of the Fundraising, Business Development and Communications Committee will be expected to chair a committee meeting four times a year (online) in addition to the Board meetings
The statutory duties of a trustee
- To ensure the organisation complies with its governing document in the articles of association
- To ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document
- To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives - the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objectives, no matter how charitable and worthwhile those activities are
- To contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
- To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
- To ensure the financial stability of the organisation
- To protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation's funds
- To appoint the Chief Executive and monitor their performance
In addition with other trustees to hold the charity in trust for current and future beneficiaries by:
- Ensuring that Advance has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these
- Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its corporate behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
- Acting as guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application
- Ensuring that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard
As well as the various statutory duties, any trustee should make full use of any specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the board make good decisions. The above list of duties is indicative only and not exhaustive. The Trustee will be expected to perform all such additional duties as are reasonably commensurate with the role.
