We are looking for a volunteer who would like to play a role in building children’s confidence. Would you be interested in supporting children to improve their numeracy abilities? We are looking for a volunteer who understands children with specific needs particularly around attention and memory challenges. Through your support, encouragement and tutoring you will make a difference to the people you work with! Hestia provides holistic, one-to-one support in our refuges and the community. Our refuge services are for women and children, offering a safe place to stay and vital emotional and practical support.
Outside of our refuges, most of our support services are accessible by anyone who has experienced domestic abuse, including men.
In the last year, 3,855 women and children were supported by Hestia to recover from domestic abuse.
Anyone can experience domestic abuse, at any point in their life, regardless of their background, age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. However, it is a gendered crime, with women being three times more likely to be victims.
We help people understand what domestic abuse is and develop the knowledge, skills and tools they need to protect themselves, stay safe and leave a relationship, if and when they’re ready to do so.
What you will be doing
- To support children who are not confident with numeracy to develop these skills through tutoring sessions over a video call

- To keep records of conversations and update the support worker on progress of sessions

A bit about this role
As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. - This is a flexible role. The amount of time you offer can work to your availability and convenience.

- You will need your own transport if you wish to attend events, ideally a car or van since items, stock and equipment will usually be needed.
- We ask that you complete training to support you in your role. This can be completed online if you have access to the internet and the necessary device (computer/laptop/tablet etc). Support can be offered or paper versions of much of the training if needed.

About CARAS Casework:
CARAS works with adults and young people of a refugee and asylum seeker background to find solutions to their problems. There are two separate sub-teams within the Casework team; young people and adults. We support young people to navigate the asylum system, understand their rights and entitlements, access education, connect with services and realise their goals. We are a non-specialist casework and advocacy service, so we work in close partnership with other local organisations to whom we refer people with more complex issues.
Using the empowerment model, our casework service embodies CARAS’ values of ‘with not for’, always striving to ensure people are armed with the information and resources they need to make decisions and take action for themselves.
About the Role:
We are currently recruiting 3 volunteers to join our Youth Casework team.
The purpose of the Youth Casework volunteer role is to support young people with a refugee or asylum-seeking background to understand their rights, access information and services, and ultimately, take control of their own lives. You will work with individuals to address problems they may face relating to, among other issues, asylum support, accessing healthcare and education, access to legal advice and finding activities and opportunities.
You will start from an understanding that individuals are always best placed to solve their own problems, and often need nothing more than to talk out a problem and find the solution themselves. When helpful, you will provide information to clarify and support to take action.
The Youth Casework team hold a support session at our community space in Tooting Hub on Wednesday evenings from 18:00pm - 21:00pm. Volunteer caseworkers have 1:1 appointments, either in person or by phone, with CARAS members. These can be related to a range of topics. Currently, our biggest areas of work are around social care, the National Transfer Scheme, access to college, nursery/school places for children, referrals to mental health providers, searches, and signposting to activities, finding solicitors and supporting people to apply for bus passes and ID cards. Volunteers also support administrative tasks such as updating our databases, collating resources, and creating information guides.
Youth Casework Volunteer Tasks and Responsibilities:
Working in an empowering way with individuals and promoting their independence through goal-setting.
Supporting people to develop their knowledge of rights and entitlements.
Assisting with filling out forms.
Signposting and referring to other services and organisations.
Gathering information from experts and disseminating information to people in an accessible manner.
Engaging in collaborative internet and phone research on services, organisations, and grants.
Flagging safeguarding concerns and other issues where further support is required.
Keeping accurate case notes.
Supporting to maintain our signposting database.
Researching and collating resources.
Working collaboratively as a team and assisting in shaping the Youth Casework project.
Adhering to CARAS Confidentiality Policy, Health & Safety policy, Equal Opportunities policy and all other policies as relevant.
Requirements (all experience can be from paid or voluntary roles):

Excellent communication skills, especially with people with varying levels of English.

We will prioritise applicants with lived experience of the asylum process.

Who are Literacy Pirates?
Through our year-long after-school programme, we develop the literacy, confidence and perseverance of children aged 9-13 who are falling behind in class and have fewer opportunities in their personal lives, so that they can succeed at school and beyond.
Children join us in our fantastical, pirate-themed space in Hackney to practise their reading and writing. We also publish their work in the real world so that every Young Pirate finishes the programme a published author, journalist and film star!
What does a Volunteer do?
As a Volunteer Crewmate, your role is to come along to our sessions in Hackney and help children practise their reading and writing in small groups by providing constant encouragement, positivity and celebration of their achievements.
Sessions are led and managed by staff, which means you can dedicate the whole time you’re with us to providing direct support to the children.

Events Officer has the responisbility of organising (along with the help of a Trustee Events Manager) our magical visits to children/adults with LD, this could be at the hospital, social groups, refugee centres, libraries etc etc.
They will monitor the chapter email for submitted event booking forms (some of these will come from events organised by the Events Manager on Trustees). Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees is a local charity formed in March 2017. We are a small and growing charity, whose volunteers and supporters have come together to welcome and help support the refugees who have fled the fighting and persecution in Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine, and are now resettling in our community.
Starting with just one refugee family, we have expanded our efforts over the years and are proud to have supported about 50 families as they settle and rebuild their lives in our community.
Purpose of Role:
Would you like to make a crucial difference for the better to the life and welfare of a refugee family as they settle into life in Britain helping them to achieve independence and social integration in their new surroundings? As a Family Liaison, you will be a vital friendly link and mentor for the family to help them navigate through difficulties that they may encounter on their path to independent living in our district. It is a very important and rewarding role.
Key Responsibilities: ● Where the family is new, help them to settle in and pass on requests for help and equipment. ● See over the welfare and requirements of the family which will change incrementally over time. The level of support should gradually diminish as the family becomes more independent. ● Liaise with local government support workers (Refugee Council) as needed while the family is still receiving support from them. ● Liaise with the team around the family - general support, language and education - so that they work together; moderate a Whatsapp group for all volunteers supporting the family, whatever their role. ● Encourage and monitor the family’s path to independence ● Liaise with Education, Language and Employment specialities.
● Keep the Volunteer Leadership Team (VLT) Family Support Lead up to date as needed.

Support & Training Provided As well as general training for SWR volunteers on the essentials such as safeguarding and cultural awareness, we run workshops to find out more about how we can help children in their path through education, language learning and other matters that may be relevant. The VLT will ensure that the Family Liaison has support and backup as required and a mentor will be appointed to help a new Family Liaison in the initial stages of taking up the role.

Every morning in the UK, thousands of children wake not to the bustle of a school day, but to the quiet of their bedrooms or hospital wards. For many, long-term illness has turned what should be years of learning, laughter and growth into years of absence and isolation. Bright Futures UK exists to change this story. Founded in 2016 by Josh Pelled, whose own education was shattered by childhood cancer, we are the only UK charity dedicated to helping young people return to education during or after illness.
For every child we support, there are dozens waiting, unseen and unsupported. By 2029, we aim to change that by helping 10,000 children annually – around 3-4% of the national cohort. Purpose of the Role
This volunteer role is a key part of the HFEH Mind team delivering a range of services across Hammersmith and Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow. We support clients with mental health with both clinical and non-clinical interventions.
The purpose of the current role is to assist with the planning and delivery of our Adult Co-production services. This includes the Adult Co-production Group, The Shakti Project (wellbeing service for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals) and a new Young Adult Co-Production group working with 18–25-year-olds.
Main Responsibilities
This role involves working closely with service managers and the co-production coordinator to discover new organisations and community events to reach out to establish a presence and promote our co-production services, as well as work in partnership with others to improve our services.
This would include admin tasks such as drafting emails to send to our service users and partners, establishing connections with members of the community and service providers, identifying appropriate locations to distribute posters and promote the service, assisting with the creation of digital content promoting the service both digitally and in-person, helping with the planning and delivery of enrichment trips and outings, co-facilitating online groups (where applicable).
Tasks
· Attending online meetings for the Adult Co-Production Group and/or the Shakti Project
· Promoting the service to members of the South Asian and BAME community (Shakti Project) and 18–25-year-olds (Young Adult Co-Production Group)
· Assisting with admin tasks e.g. drafting up emails to send to service users, updating our co-production newsletters, emailing charity partners and public organisations.
· Assisting with in-person events such as Health Fairs, Career/Volunteer days, cultural events

Type of person we are looking for:
Essential
· Good listener with strong communication skills
· Highly reliable and good time management skills
· Open-minded and non-judgmental approach to having conversations around mental health
· Good knowledge of mental health difficulties and mental health awareness
· Understanding the needs and challenges of the South Asian and BAME community
Desirable
· Good knowledge of services, charities and organisations in Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow
· Previous experience with workshop or advisory group facilitation
· Experience working with young adults aged 18-25 in a variety of settings e.g. careers service, education, inpatient or outpatient mental health services.
Time commitment and expenses:
· 6 hours per week (including a 1-hour lunch break), during our core hours of 10AM – 4 PM.
· We request a minimum commitment of 3 months of volunteering after the completion of your induction.
· We request a minimum commitment of 6 months of volunteering before reference request.
· We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role.

Our amazing team of vibrant & diverse volunteers helps us run over 500 shops. Our stores sell lots of great donated & new goods to help raise vital funds to make a real difference to disadvantaged children, young people and families across the UK.
Our retail stores are the face of our charity on the high-street and in local communities. We have loads of amazing stock donated to us every week, and this all needs to be sorted, tagged and put on the shop-floor for sale!
Making sure our shops look fantastic is another task you can get involved with. You may also be required to help out on the till too, but we will show you how that works during your time volunteering with us. We value the contribution of everyone who supports Barnardo’s.
You will be a friendly face of Barnardo’s by volunteering in one of our shops. It would be great if you could volunteer one shift a week (or even more if you want) but we’re always happy to be flexible to work around your availability.

Are you passionate about young people and ensuring everyone has equitable access to opportunities? Do you have a vibrant energy and experience to bring to our families and children? Then we could be looking for you to join our team of volunteers supportung families and young people in the North Kensington community.
As we ease out of lockdown, we are looking for volunteers to help on day trips in and around London to support families in getting back to normality again.
Trips will include anything from horse riding through to the beach, farms and Kew Gardens. This is an opportunity to help families in our community while gaining experience of working with a small, friendly and supportive charity.
Volunteers will help the group leader to accompany groups of parents/guardians and their children on a variety of cultural/fun trips, helping to make them feel welcome.
Suitable volunteers will be reliable and sociable and enjoy working with children. Volunteers must be available for day trips during school holidays, as this is when most of the trips take place.
Volunteers receive a full induction, and support from the Children and Young People Coordinator. Travel expenses on the outings and any entrance fees are covered, and some further expenses can also be claimed.
IMPORTANT: An enhanced DBS check is required for this role, and so we are unfortunately only able to accept applications from UK-based applicants or British nationals living abroad.
